Etta’s Place

My husband booked a night in Maude’s room to celebrate my birthday. While the location is fantastic, this was a sad, sad hotel. The main problem for us was the cleanliness of the hotel was lacking (crumbs and such on our room floor, for example; peeling pant in the room), not sure the bed had been changed. No one to be seen to ask, since we checked in after 8 pm (!). It was a cold night in January, and the super loud heater ran constantly (on the plus side it masked some of the loud street noise), with no instructions on how to change the thermostat or turn it off. The breakfast was disappointing also. When making the reservation, my husband called to ask them about accommodating my diet restrictions (something good BNBs manage just fine), he was told to put in the online reservation. Imagine our surprise when my breakfast came full of stuff I couldn’t eat! After we reminded her (though it seemed she hadn’t been told), she offered me «an egg.» She did a nice job of scrambling that egg, but I expected better. For those who do eat gluten, I suspect that they would have been disappointed by the breakfast casserole served with store bought raisin bread (on Sunday morning, not even any pastries). Not exactly gourmet as advertised. This seems the remains of a lovely hotel (beautiful library and patios!), but the owners seem to have given up on the place.

Not a real great place. As another reviewer posted the best thing about the place is the location. The hotel as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. Cleanliness and maintenance is not a priority. My wife and I stayed in Maude’s, my wife was taking a shower and an open pipe in the ceiling over the shower dropped something in her eye. The baseboards and carpet were worn and a bit dirty and the shower wasn’t entirely clean. In the end I wouldn’t recommend this place.

This place was really cute, but the WiFi is almost non existent. Worse than old school dial up. Don’t plan on having real Internet service here! Breakfast was good though.

Stayed in Etta’s Attic and was disappointed. As my hubby and I ascended the staircase we noted that it had been a while since the carpet had seen a vacuum cleaner. Entered our room and noted the kitchen floor needed a good sweep and mop. There were also candy wrappers and other small bits of refuse on the sofa, bed, and floor. The guest service staff member shared that house keeping was out for the day and that she was sorry. I get it that a room change in a B&B is not easy but get someone up with a swiffer and a token of your apology.
The décor was descent, dusty but descent. If you are ok with cheap blinds and Texas shabby chic go for it. The more I think about it I should have pitched a fit, but it was my birthday and every time we noticed something my hubby looked crestfallen.
The location was the only plus, from the hotel you can walk anywhere. Guess what there are other places in the area that may be cleaner and more customer friendly.
The breakfast, I mean who does not go to a B&B for the delicious hot breakfast with tea and fresh juices. The food was lukewarm and so was the orange concentrate. We had precooked sausage patties, a spinach egg dish, and over toasted English muffin. Needless to say we picked over our food and left quickly no need to linger. Just paid the pricey almost $ 300 dollar and made a run for it.
Seek residence elsewhere.

Stayed here for one night in ‘Laura’s Lounge’. I would definitely recommend staying at Etta’s Place. AMAZING location in Sundance Square, friendly staff, good breakfast, spacious rooms. There were a number of very minor things in the room that warrants a bump down to 4 stars: broken mirror hinge, very dust blinds, no body wash/​soap, a wet book, the bathtub coating was peeling. Still a great overall experience.

We stayed 2 night in the abundance suite and were very happy. The parking garage is close by and easy walk. There is not a «front desk» but it’s ok. The room itself is simple and cute. We got the romance package which included cider, strawberries, and massages. The massage lady was very nice and relaxing. The best thing about the hotel is the breakfast! It is so good! And the lady is so nice. The only downfall is the noise around 7 in the morning is when the streets get busier and construction starts so be prepared but it’s expected. It is close to everywhere and ideal location for everything. You have to ask them to validate parking! We will be booking and recommending. Enjoy!

I was pretty amped to stay at Etta’s, especially after reading the other reviewer’s experiences. My husband and I lived in Ft. Worth for several years but never stayed downtown so when we came back to attend a wedding rehearsal dinner at Reata’s right next door, it seemed like a prime opportunity, but we were extremely let down. We got to the hotel at 7:45pm, after a minor flight delay, and despite getting their before their proposed closing time, there was no staff to help us, just a small sign that said go to an apartment building (I cannot remember the name, but the name was listed on the small sheet of paper) to pick up our keys. I walked all the way around the block and didn’t see the named apartment building, it wasn’t until I asked someone who was walking into a nearby building if they knew where the place was, and they said it was through the double doors, but there was NO MARKING OR NAME ANYWHERE, very frustrating. Also there was no mention on my confirmation email that there would be an alternate location we would need to go to get our keys — and we were given minimal direction on where to park, luckily we knew the area well enough to know where to go. Demerit #1 and #2. We got to our room (Ben’s room) which was fine, just as pictured, actually a little bigger than I expected. It was clean, and had a large walk in closet with robes. Bathroom was large, fully stocked with amenities, which was nice. There was also bottled water waiting for us, which I liked. The bed was very comfortable, the most redeeming quality of the stay for sure. We found the room to be quiet too, and were not bothered by any street noise. So that was all good. There was someone smoking what smelled like illicit drugs down the hall, so that was not cool, but luckily didn’t permeate into our room. Because we had no human contact with any staff when we checked in we had to search the room for info on what time and where breakfast was, which was provided in a tableside guide (not in our check in paper, which I found odd as well, since it is advertised as a B&B). We got to breakfast and there were a couple muffins and coffee available, and ran into a woman who asked us if we wanted hot food, which we did. She was nice enough, saying good morning but that was all, she didn’t introduce herself, didn’t talk to us at all, didn’t ask us how our night was… nothing. Very odd. We waited about 15 minutes for our meal, which was fine, we were munching on muffins and coffee and orangejuice. The breakfast was Mexican eggs (a sort of casserole) served cold, with a side of sausage and English muffin, with no butter or jam. Seriously? Cold breakfast and no condiments? The lady disappeared and we didn’t see her for more than 20 minutes — so unfortunately the couple that came in after us had to wait for a long time to get their food, infact, we finished eating and grabbed seconds on coffee and they still hadn’t gotten anything yet. We packed up and went to check out, but still no one was to be seen anywhere. There was another small note that said to leave the keys at the front desk, so we did. So basically we had the opposite of a B&B experience, with zero human interaction and a mediocre breakfast. The location is great to be sure, the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean, so it is not a total loss, but they definitely need to work on their B&B skills and customer interaction. To be honest though I would not bother going back, it wasn’t worth the price, and wasn’t worth the falsified B&B title.

My wife and I had an event in Fort Worth this weekend. I looked at various hotels downtown and you can’t beat the price of Etta’s Place. We stayed in Will’s Refuge. It is probably one of the smaller rooms but was perfect for us. Clean and comfortable and we never heard any noise from anywhere. This was our 2^nd stay at Etta’s place and its great. Close parking, free wifi, Incredible breakfast each morning and you can’t beat the location. The only problem is picking what you want to do nearby. Four Day Weekend is a must. Great restaurants nearby and great bars and clubs. The only time we left downtown the entire weekend was to go to the event we planned in the first place. I could recommend this place enough.

For options on Sundance Square, this was great, they really are within walking distance of so many great places to dine. The rooms are spacious and the old building charm is amazing, wonderful patios and views abound here. Really a wonderful place with wonderful charm and amenities.

What a great space! We had the. perfect stay. Mona and Ryan were overly accommodating. The common areas were so cozy– courtyard, piano room, library, and kitchen. Breakfast was delicious! Green chili eggs, peach blackberry crisp. Not drowning in cheese or smothered in sugar. Homemade and naturally TASTY! I’ll be recommending Etta’s to everyone going to FtW. Oh, check out Scat’s jazz lounge closeby. Former speakeasy, great music.

Priced a little steep for the size of the room ($ 150+), but located centrally in downtown Fort Worth. Bed — a little soft, but Etta’s is my choice when visting Fort Worth because it puts me in the heart of the downtown. Friendly staff, very secure and safe. (Actually, all the downtown area feels safe as local police patrol the area on bicycles throughout the night).

My wife and I just got back from a night at Etta’s Place for our 6^th anniversary. It’s within walking distance of several great dinning and entertainment spots in downtown Fort Worth. The historic building has a lot of personality and the fixtures in the rooms are antique and comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious and relaxing. It’s served on a refreshingly eclectic mix of old, miss-​matched china by sweet friendly people. There is a nice common room with comfy leather chairs, warm lighting and walls full of old books.
If you are looking for a quite escape with the option of easily taking in dinner, a show and local art, Etta’s Place is a great spot. We will definitely be going back.
