Firestone & Robertson Distilling

The tour is pretty cool to do, if not just to tour the building, which has been abandoned since the 1970s, and the get the great smell of bourbon when walking onto the production floor. Now not to get confused, the tour is about the building and the production of bourbon. The product F&R sells right now is TX Blended Whiskey — which is a product they blend on site from four other whiskey/​bourbon distillers across America. The tour is about the bourbon they make which they haven’t even bottled yet, and probably won’t for another couple of years. TX Whiskey is a product they sell to keep the business going so they can focus on their made business — bourbon. Thankfully TX whiskey is a hit, and is selling well. The building is awesome, the vault, the wood wall, the reused materials through out. The tour is long, but very detailed. The guide knows what he is talking about. Though the tour could be a touch long. The production floor is hot, so dress appropriately. At the end you get a sample of the TX whiskey, though I thought he could of made a tasting session out of it. Good tour.

First off this place is beautiful! Everything from the reclaimed wood from the original building repurposed as furniture to the isles and isles of gorgeous whiskey barrels lining the walls. The smell of sweet nectar wafting from the distilling stills hits you the moment you approach the cool old red brick building. (My mouth started watering at the sent!)
I learned today while taking a little private tour, that the venue is mostly only open for tasting tours on Saturday, but makes special exemptions for private parties. I also developed a new appreciation for the brand after learning about their details both in product and presentation. The whiskey is distilled, bottled, and packaged right in Fort Worth. Their small, but efficient team is pretty amazing to see in action. In addition, each bottle has a little bit of Texas pride. Starting at the top, every cork bears a unique embellishment from some reclaimed material from leather boots to a firefighter jacket and even a ballet shoe. The bottle has a few other notable things you should ask about during the tour!
I had a blast getting to learn a little about a company that is putting my city on the map! I’d totally recommend stopping by for the tour.

Nice experience. The tour is definitely heavy on information, takes about 1.5h, and they talk about different alcohol than you get to taste. They don’t heat up the floor so remember to take a jacket with you as it may get chilly. No discount on whiskey purchased at the distillery vs. liquor store and you can buy max 2 bottles per person.

Tour of a bourbon distillery? Sign me up!!! Oh wait I already did that, OK so who wants to go again??? The guy giving the tour was extremely knowledgeable in the history of bourbon and the products they make at the distillery. The facility itself looks like a great place to party, private event of course, and spend sometime at. Plus the distillery has a whole lot of character and history in the building itself. Neat bank vault in the lobby. F&R you know the way to my soul and I can’t wait to try the Bourbon in Spring of 2015!!!

The beautiful old building and its history, the whiskey, the distillery and its staff were all very nice. I was drawn in from the very first whiff of whiskey I got the moment I stepped out of my car. Our tour guide (Chad?) was a blast! Thank you. A wonderful experience all around.

After finally taking the time to reserve a spot and take the tour, I have this to say:
I’m very very excited to have these guys in Fort Worth.
Their TX Whiskey blend is delicious, and I have no doubt that their own bourbon will be as well once that’s released
Everyone here is really friendly and just a bunch of great people.
But I’ll say this to anyone who goes on the tour expecting to get really familiar with the product: It’s very heavy on information (which is great if you’re into whiskey nerdery like, ahem, someone I know) and very light on samples (I think we got ½oz at the very, very end of the 1.5+ hour tour). The tour was very cool, but I’m still tossing around the verdict in my head as to whether or not it was worth $ 15 and tax.
In any case, some cool fun facts I learned here:
They’ve harvested and developed their own proprietary yeast strain for their bourbon which was taken from a Brazos Valley pecan.
It’s largely a computer-​free, hand crafted operation every step of the way in terms of automation, which is something you don’t see much these days, especially at this scale.
They actually put more thought than you’d guess into developing the packaging (for, ahem, some people I know, the only packaging you need is a clear bottle which allows you to see the whiskey inside the bottle).
All in all, I am really glad to see a business like this here in town. I’ll definitely be keeping an ear to the ground to see (hear?) when the bourbon gets released!

Seems like the tour has undergone a massive change since it went from free to charged $ 15 per person. The tour is now a 75 minute infomercial for their bourbon, which you won’t taste, and their blended whisky. Then at the end we were given a small sample of the blended whisky. A few people who were by the bar got to taste the white dog whisky. Complete waste of time and money.
The first half of the tour is about the bourbon. You don’t see any of the equipment operating. It just sits there. You could look in to the distillery from a window and get the whole tour experience. The tour guide couldn’t answer technical questions and thought it was funny that he couldn’t. They talk about the bourbon they distill that won’t be released for a while. Ok, but no sampling. No… anything.
Then they talk about TX Whisky, which is the blended product currently on the shelf. There’s an exhaustively long discussion about how the owners wanted to make it a local product and how important local products are. However, the stills used to make bourbon… not from Texas. Barrels? Not from Texas. Bottle corks? Portugal. Bottles? Not from Texas. And worst of all, the «TX» whisky is a blend of industrial whisky from Kentucky. It seems like they are really concerned with advertising themselves as a Texas product. But then it’s all whisky from KY. It’s KY Whisky.
You don’t see them bottling, blending, distilling, mashing, or anything else. Everything is just sitting there. You don’t taste the bourbon as it is going through different stages. You don’t taste the individual whiskys that become TX Whisky. Total ripoff. At the end of the tour, after giving out like ½ an ounce of whisky, they hit you up to buy the blended whisky. For the price of the tour you could have just bought a bottle.
Obviously this is not the same tour people used to get. I don’t know why it changed. If you’re doing less for your customers then don’t charge more. It was a rip off from beginning to end. I just felt bored and cheated. More out of my time than money. Definitely lost two customers this weekend, plus whoever they lose from our word of mouth. Would not go back. Would not drink their product again.

GORGEOUS! If I had the money… I would totally do the inside of my house set up like the front room bar area. Oh and try not to die over the table… and the bar area. Then then then… you get to walk into the distilling area… mindblowing. We also attended the Fort Worth Foodie event here… great place for an event btw… the lighting is cozy and the sound for live music is fantastic. It really encompasses the feel for Texas and represents Fort Worth wonderfully! Leonard and Troy are super sweet and welcoming. Take a tour… just not in the middle of summer… it is tooooooooo hot haha. Dirt Parking lot to the west of the building always seems to be open and street parking is limited… depending if you are expecting a large crowd or not… just double check… would hate for you to have an issue with towing etc.

What an amazing space and experience! This converted former warehouse now houses Fort Worth’s, and North Texas’ for that matter, very first distillery. The whiskey is ridiculously good, and after a tour, there’s a sampling for the attendees. Check their website for tour dates though. The tours are limited and spaced out so that they can continue distilling and keep up with production and demands.
This space is gorgeous though– the rustic feel of exposed brick, an old vault that has been reconditioned into a private tasting/​dining space, barrels forming a bar base for tasting, stacked chord wood to film an eye-​catching wall, and elements of the original space utilized in everything. Really an amazing place to check out, you won’t be disappointed.
