Awseome music! As country as country can get. Drinks are pricey but the place is worth it.

Yee-haw! I love this bar. We go on Wednesday nights when there are hump day specials($ 2 for just about any kind of drink: well, beer, margaritas) and a talented live band. The crowd is super friendly and some of the ladies are kind enough to share steps to the dancing moves for us beginner country western dancers who need a helpful pointer or two. It’s a great time, even if country western doesn’t seem like your thing. I don’t think I can rave enough about how awesome this place is. You’ll just have to come check it out for yourself.

This smallish bar can be found at the edges of Stockyards in a historic building that was once a brothel owned by Buffalo Bill Cody. I loved this place. This is a real Texas music bar featuring genuine country music. I mean the good stuff, Honky-Tonk, Western Swing, Texas Country. This is the kind of place where you can expect to see a steel guitar, stand-up bass and fiddle on stage. This is something genuine in the Stockyards, an area with waaaaay too much ridiculous, cheesy, touristy, urban-cowboy crap. The people who come here mostly are either locals or actual ranchers/farmers coming into town for a good time. Do not expect line dancing and ridiculously garish sequined outfits. The place looks authentically great. There is a Texas flag for a curtain, a slightly broken window and the very brothel looking bronze ceiling. People come here to drink, listen to great music and dance. Man and women partner dancing done in the more traditional way is the specialty here. I was there to see the legendary Dale Watson and marveled at the way the ranchers, the rockabilly kids and suburbanites danced all knight. The crowed other than some rockabilly types and a some young couples from out in the country was older and they were no sexy idiots are up-town party people. Grown folks drink at this place, people who work HARD and want to let loose. The guy at the door was genuinely friendly, so was the very nice owner of the place behind the bar. The prices for booze are pretty good but they are great for the Stockyards. Some practical info: When going to see a big act it is best to reserve a table. All the tables with good views of the stage were reserved. They said to get there at 8 for a 9 show but we felt like fools being there virtually alone until 8:45 or so. They allow smoking everywhere but the dance floor but not that many people do smoke so the place is not smelly and smokey. The sound system was not glaringly loud. It could have actually been a little louder but it was great to order drinks and talk to people without screaming. I hope to put this rev in lists that may garner the attention of visitors from outside the state. If you want to see and hear something of real traditional Texas life, real music and simply not be another sheep tourist that only wants to see the pathetic, plastic Hollywood stereotype of Texas, skip the overpriced tourist traps and come here. Also they have a website and are also listed on Unilocal as Pearls(no apostraphe) but that sign only contains one review. the exact copy of above.

l literally only dive-bombed in here for a single tallboy to soak in the scene, but I was pretty blown away by what was going down. Don’t let em fool ya: Pearl’s is dropping ‘em in from all corners of Cowtown and beyond, and the staples here are flat timeless. Tommy Hooker and company have apparently been thumping the two-stepping metronome for any of the greater Stockyards that are up for it for many moons, and if anything, this is one of those joints that’s sort of hard to decipher: the regulars who have been coming here for years, speaking in code to one another, couldn’t particularly care to have an outsider pop in for a Lone Star, and I’ll admit that my first glance didn’t feel entirely unlike a more awkward Friday Night Lights moment. I was there long enough to saturate the vibe, but not long enough to get lost in old stories. My hope is that that means I have plenty of means to head back again. But somehow I gather they’ll be doing their thing, just about at the same pace, for as long as it takes me to get there.

This hidden gem is exactly what I was hoping would exist in the Stockyards! I moved to Fort Worth from Austin, where I did tons of two-stepping at the Broken Spoke and Donn’s Depot. My idea of a two-stepping bar involves cheap beer, bad carpet, lots of old men who know how to spin and amazing country music. Pearl’s(unlike what I have seen at Billy Bob’s) has all of those things. I poked my head in last night just to confirm the rumors. It is all true. Wednesday nights are the«Working Man’s Hump Night,» with a happy hour from 7−11pm that includes $ 2 margaritas, $ 2 you call it’s, and $ 2 longnecks. Plus, no cover! There was an awesome band with great singer and mean slide guitar and fiddler. Beautiful old fashioned bar, intimate dance floor, and a friendly crowd of regulars. A very welcoming bartender says the crowd thins out towards 10, so come early for more dancing. At 10:30 last night, there were still a few couples on the floor. I was psyched to see this kind of place exists in Fort Worth. I asked the bartender if young dancers ever come in, and she said you never know who will show up, but it hasn’t hit the mainstream yet(after all these years). I can’t decide if I should spread the word or protect the secret, but with beer prices this low and this good music, I think its time to get some youthful two-steppers in the door.

AWESOME bar. If you’re looking for live country music the way it’s supposed to sound, then this is your stop. I’ve been here 6 times, all on different nights with different acts(only once have we been there and seen the same act twice) and wow, they know their country. The alcohol prices are affordable, the staff is cool as can be, and they have a hell of a dance floor! This is Fort Worth bars at its best. Definite must-go if you’ve never been to Cowtown.
