I’m from out of town and came down to the stockyards for the 4th of July. I wanted to grab a few drinks and heard a guy with a good voice singing and playing some great country cover songs. It was around 4 pm, there was about 20 people in the bar, most were pretty buzzed but having a good time. Paid $ 3.35 for a well fin and tonic. AMAZING. Can’t beat that price, especially on a holiday weekend. The guy playing on stage was rely good and the songs he was covering were awesome. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes country music, cheap drinks and a good atmosphere to hang with friends at.

Really fun place! Smaller than most bars, but makes it feel more inviting. Great place to dance or just watch everyone else dance. Just FYI the boys and girls bathrooms are on the opposite sides. Easy access from the Main Street and parking! Chive On

This felt like the kind of bar that would be in Texas. We are from Cali and loved this bar. Crappy swill beer that seemed to actually taste good in Texas. The singer was absolutely adorable with an incredible and soulful voice. Something Bradberry was her name. Bar was kinda empty, but it was a Sunday evening(which we found out is Beer and Wine time and not liquor time). Pop in for laid back, no frills, crappy beer, great voices, and a dog. No joke, a dog. He barks his applause to the singers.

I visited on a Sunday to listen to a friend that was playing at the Thirsty Armadillo. I’ll begin with a little personal history. Back in the early 60s the Stockyards were nothing as you see today. Sure the buildings were the same but some of them housed some pretty rough bars and the curbs were all busted up. There were rooms for rent over every business and people of questionable integrity lurking around every corner. Why, you may ask, am I including this history lesson in my review? Well the location of Thirsty Armadillo was a bar called«June’s Lounge» back then. At one time June’s was directly across the street on Exchange but I mostly remember June’s right there, where Thirsty Armadillo is. My mother was a bartender there back then and she ran a tight ship, never had a bouncer and would have been insulted if it was even suggested. She served millionaires, truck drivers, hookers and thieves all the same, with a smile and a giant frosty schooner of cold draft beer. I had birthday parties on the pool tables at June’s with the regulars in the bar as my guests. Sure I’m being nostalgic but I can’t help but feel that way when visiting some of the places in the Stockyards. It was a dangerous and exciting place. On my recent visit my friends got a kick out of learning that I used to bum nickels from people to play the jukebox in the very room we were all enjoying some pretty bad ass music in on a hot Sunday afternoon. I found the space to be comfortably cool even in the hottest part of the day. The beer was also nicely cold and the much tequila flowed with a fresh slice of lime on the rim. My only complaint is how long it took to get each round of beer and shots. Each person had to stand at the bar, wait their turn then juggle their order back to the table. I guarantee sales would have been double had our bartender had 10 arms and perhaps someone to clear tables. That poor dude that was working all alone AND clearing the tables too. He busted his ass to keep everyone happy. No attitude, no bs, just steady, going as fast as he could service and with a smile no less. BRAVO my man. I would also like to commend the sound in that room. PERFECTION(imho). Not sure how it is on a crowded Friday night but I’m more inclined to visit on a busy night now knowing there’s a system that is operated by someone who clearly cares about sound quality.

This may become my new hangout in the Stockyards! The bartenders were friendly and on top of things – didn’t have to wait forever to get a drink! There was plenty of space for dancing, a pool table, and a Jagermeister bar… whaat!!! Go check out this place!

How does this place get any less than 5 stars? Great bar for bikers, bike enthusiasts, regular folk and everything in between. Best music on the strip and great bartenders. There are friendly locals who will make any out-of-towners feel like regulars. I’d say the Thirsty Armadillo and the White Elephant tie for my favorite bars in Cowtown.

It’s a large bar with good smoke ventilation and a pool table(although only one). It’s right on exchange and there’s lots of places around in case you also want to bar hop. I came on a Wednesday night and there was a live band(Pistol Packin’ Momma) that was pretty good an the bartender from Kansas was there and she was really nice. She came up with some fun shots

First time there and I’ve never seen my husband get so mad at a bartender. We went on a late Saturday afternoon and the bartender lady would completely ignore people she didn’t know from what I can tell. I guess the«usuals» get the good service. He finally gave up and just sat down without a drink and said some nasty things about her. The music the band was playing was great!!! Finally a man stepped behind he bar and the hubby went to him and got good service, which made him happier. I would like to go back to listen to music if I could get the hubby to step foot in there again(they had awesome drink specials too)
