I work in Frankfort. While I don’t love the commute, regular visits to Poor Richard’s Books makes up for it. This little independent bookshop is packed to the brim with the national bestsellers, books of local interest, and gifts — and that’s just the downstairs area. Upstairs you’ll find stacks and stacks of old books and magazines. Walking up the stairs brings out the kid in me. It’s like finding a secret passageway or a hidden treasure. Adventures await. Connected to Poor Richard’s is the Coffeetree Café, where you can grab a latte and a snack — or a whole meal. And attached to that is the Completely Kentucky store, which sells products crafted and created by Kentuckians. I can’t visit one without visiting the other two. But I usually make Poor Richard’s the final — and longest — stop. I love it.

This is a great bookstore, with a great staff. I enjoyed visiting this bookstore this summer while I was in Frankfort for a summer internship. I highly recommend visiting this shop if you are in Frankfort.

Great bookstore, great staff, I spend some time browsing and they have some local authors and also some collectible books mixed in with more normal things. Very cool and will return.

Unfortunately, I had only enough time to browse as it took for my food next door to be prepared, but from what I can tell, if I lived in town, this is a place I would go to browse for hours. The selection and staff seemed top notch. Definitely a place I would return to if I were in town.

It’s hard for me to visit a town without perusing its bookstore. Frankfort’s adorable Poor Richard’s Books was a store I could easily have spent hours in– warm, friendly, and just jumbled enough to invite discovery. I picked up a few poetry chapbooks by local authors, and some Kentucky postcards. Loved this little bookstore gem.

The first time I went to Poor Richard’s, I met Will Oldham — isn’t that enough to give Poor Richard’s five stars? Great selection, nice location in town, helpful staff, cool maps in the restroom… What more could you ask for? One of the best bookstores in the country.
