This place has a great selection of pizzas… But it’s not New York pizza. It’s still good and the pieces are larger than normal and the crust is reasonably thin… But the crust isn’t really that chewy crusty fluffy mix you only get with New York water. But the pros outweigh the cons for sure– like how you can buy it by the slice, which is clutch. You can also get a beer to go with your pizza, and they have plenty of options for little kids too. Great for a casual slice while you are walking market street, or before a show at the Weinberg.

The good:(The five stars) This is probably the best NY Style pizza for the State of Maryland. The store’s ambiance and décor is very nice. It s a good place to «grab and go» for slices of pizzas. The young lady that works behind the counter was the nicest and friendliest of all. Needs improvements:(rating it at 2 to 3 stars) Employees working behind the counter needs attitude adjustments toward customers. They don’t greet or smile. The combo 2 pizza slices sizes are bit small for the price. Use slices from large pizza! They need an upgrade to their soda machine to also include variety of iced teas.

Very clean and pizza was yummy! Would go again — wasn’t the best I had, but was very good. Great special on 2 slices and a drink for under 7 bucks. Can’t go wrong.

The pizza is good and the price for two slices plus a drink is great. You aren’t going to find a more filling lunch in downtown Frederick for that price. The only thing that’s a bummer is they are always out of the same speciality pizzas. I’d really like to try a few different ones at some point. The décor is very nice. It’s clean and new and very comfortable. One last non-food related, but I believe still important point– I have been here three times and there’s something that has bothered me deeply. All three times I’ve been in the same young girl is working the register and the same guy(maybe the owner?) is making the pizzas. The manner in which he speaks to this woman is borderline abusive. This last time I almost walked out– he is cruel and unkind. This wasn’t a «just having a bad day» thing– it’s happened every single time. Honestly, I’m not sure I could go back in there again and watch this go down once more. It made everyone in my dinner group cringe last time we were in. For the sake of this young gal, I hope she finds a job where the management respects and values her.

We keep going back for these tasty pies, and sure enough, the staff have found their rhythm. Great job!

The pizza is made wonderfully, thin AND crispy which is a rare combo. And wonderful flavor! Also, their 2-slices+a drink $ 6 conbo? Great! I’ve been there about 7 times now since they’ve opened and the problem is EVERY time they’ve been out of something or other. And I’m not the only one who’s had this problem. Another time, while waiting for my slices, the counter girl got frazzled and said, very loudly, «There’s too many f*cking people.» There weren’t, but that’s not the point. Anyway, love the food. Wish it was tweaked.

I went to Flippin’ for the first time this week and was pleased with it. I’d like to note that this review is simply for the two slices and a drink — I’ve not had a whole pie with any fixins at this point but I’m sure they’re great. I walked in and was greeted immediately, ordered two slices of cheese(because I think the best way to judge a pizza is by their cheese pizza) and was pleasantly surprised. Walked the 3 blocks back to work and dug in. I don’t know who complained about the slice sizes in a previous review, but mine were very generous slices and each needed their own paper plate to accommodate them. Good cheese, nice thin chewy(and crunchy around the edges after heating for me, which was great!) crust and nicely seasoned sauce. Is it the absolute best pizza I’ve ever had in my entire life? No, but I’m not judging it from that. It was solid ny style pizza and I’ll go back for more. I’m excited to try their veggie pizza fresh, as it looks great. I think the prices are fine. Anyone that lives or works in downtown frederick is pretty used to, and comfortable with the price range that these guys are in. Find me a restaurant or sandwich shop downtown that isn’t a tad pricey(not complaining, it’s all good food, just general fact for a busy, touristy area such as downtown) and I’ll be impressed. A bowl of soup at Pretzel Pizza is $ 6 – 7 bucks, a sandwich from a number of places downtown alone is $ 8 – 12. I thought $ 6 for two slices that were generous in size, and a fountain drink was more than appropriate. Would I complain if it were $ 5? Nope. But I’m happy with the quality of this place and the prices weren’t offensive to me at all. If I could have done 4.5 I would have. I wasn’t quite comfortable with the 5 since I didn’t get a fresh, made to order pie, though I assume I’ll be able to upgrade my review once I have that experience. Easy place to stop in for lunch, or a quick bite after work. I’ll be back!

Light on the sauce, NY style, relatively thin crust pizza. I’m a fan, especially of the location. Vick I believe is the owner seems nice enough. Looking forward to coming back with more people.

Wow, I have been waiting for a place like this. Two slices and a soda $ 6 or pay $ 2 more for a beer. Great place, nice atmosphere, the pizza delicious and very clean. Already planning to come back!

The pizza is fast and good, and the employees are friendly. The cheese and pepperoni slices are nice but the buffalo chicken is to die for. I am excited to have a pizza place on this end of market too. A good counterpart to pretzel pizza.

The food is good, and I can tell this restaurant is new. My first impression is a good one, but only by a slim margin. The front door and window have greasy fingerprints all over them which nags the question, ‘how clean is the kitchen?’ I came during a time where it was slow, and the staff could have easily cleaned dirty tables that were once occupied and wiped down the greasy windows. Overall, the food was good and the staff members I spoke with were friendly and they all seemed as if they enjoyed their new jobs. Please clean dirty surfaces so I can choose a table that I would like to sit at based on the location, and not the appearance of cleanliness.

Went there to share a slice with my boyfriend — we got the tribiro(meatballs, pepperoni, & sausage) — and ended up eating TWO slices each. The pizza is not anything like I’m used to, I was amazed at the goodness in my mouth! The atmosphere is really nice — I love love that they have a bar(not a full bar, it’s small, but hey, it’s a bar!) and that they stay open late. It has a diner feel to it, but more modern(three TV’s). Not to mention, the owner, Vick, is such a genuinely nice dude. We chatted with him for a bit, and I asked what made him open this particular pizza joint. He had a good story, I won’t post it here because I don’t want to take it away from him — if you go in(which you should!) and meet him, be sure to ask :)

UPDATE!11/28: it’s been three trips here now and I still stand by my review. I honestly am not seeing the value here at all and for the marketing am seeing nothing different here than any other NY pizzeria except a pretentious 20% markup for being at the creek. A point I never made in my original post but am seeing from other reviews. It seems the front of house gets overwhelmed easily and the back of the house seems to get pretty angry and vocal around the customers with the front. ORIGINALPOST: What do you get when a middle age Italian pizza man hooks up with a millennial chick in college? You get Flippin’ Pizza. Old NY pizza meets hipster! Complete with a 35% mark up to match the lifestyle. It was rainy on my stop around 1100 in the morning, and ordered the special, which was two slices and a Mountain Dew for $ 6.oo, which seems pretty high since for $ 2.50, one can buy two slices and a can anywhere along 5th or 6th Ave, mid-town Manhattan. I ordered cheese because of my old adage, if you can’t get cheese right, you’ll never get anything with toppings correct. I found that the slices too small and prices too high for what I got. The slices being cut from a medium pizza, and was quite dishearten by how small they were. For comparison, one could go to Adam’s Morgan to any of the three Super-Pizza shops(Pizza Bolies, Pizza-Mart or Jumbo Slice and for $ 4.oo per slice get what equates to about six slices of Flippin’s Pizza’s slice). An 18″ cheese pizza(as of this writing) is $ 15.75, but get in to pepperoni or any specially pizzas and it rockets up to $ 20.75 compared to the $ 12.oo cheese and $ 14.oo for a similar pie from King’s or Rocky’s pizza. I have to note at this price, I had little recourse but to try the two-slice and drink deal. I know, being next to the creek downtown commands a premium price since the rents suck, but considering there were two homeless people sitting on the wall twenty feet from the door, I find it hard to justify. On the plus side, I will note that the pizza was true to authentic NY style. It did interestingly enough have a slight pepper kick, as though a little of the table top pepper shaker’s pepper was added to the pizza while cooking. This may or may not be to your liking, but it did separate the flavorful out marginally compared to the three dozen or so actual NY style pizza joints in Frederick county. I have no objection to the flavor, taste or any other factor relating to the pizza itself aside from the cost/portion size. The pizza was surprisingly greasy considering the target demographic of whom the branding and marketing is aimed at. Also, I will note that lack or extremely limited mention of the quality of ingredients. In fact, no where in the branding do I see any notice of sourced or organic ingredients which leads me to believe overall, the brand leans more towards traditional NY style pizzerias. As with all chain franchise QSR these days, Flippin’ Pizza has a nice trendy, yet more upscale décor than a traditional NY pizza joint with the walls painted black with all sorts of text in different colors(mostly red and white) written out(Maybe they wrote out locally sourced organ food stuff on there, as a grown-up, I don’t have time to read walls!) on them. The staff was pleasant, and customer service was fine. The curtains match the drapes, and the interior décor certainly matches the marketing of the website, and comes off as very pretentious branding aimed at hipsters. To be honest, it’s a really bizarre overall trying to take the local migrant run pizzeria and upscale it to look like any other millennial geared QSR, while maintaining the quality levels of said fifties era pizzeria, then adding that 35−40% premium for said experience. At the end of the day, it’s very good NY style pizza, but at a premium that is better off spent at an authentic NY pizzeria. and, with as many options as there in downtown, for the cost I’d sooner hit CK Pretzel Works(Pretzel & Pizza Creations) or Pistarro’s who are in the space price point bracket. I’m not as nearly annoyed by the branding as I am by the prices so it’s hard to say I’ll be back anytime soon. Sadly, I have to pass on this place.
