This was our first time here. The chips and salsa were good, but that was it. I ordered enchiladas, black beans, and rice. My food was cool to lukewarm, not hot like a fresh meal would be. The food was bland and just awful. I ate very little. My husband sat with an empty cup for half the time and had to ask for a refill instead of being brought one. We paid $ 37 for our meal and I couldn’t even eat mine. I would never come back here to eat again! Save your money and go elsewhere.

Started off good with salsa and chips, but went downhill from there. We got white cheese sauce which was too runny. We ran out of chips and never was asked if we wanted more, even though we still had more cheese remaining to eat. Our food came, so we let that go. Our food was room temperature at best. The hamburger in the soft taco and enchilada was odd– pink colored and tasted odd too. The shredded chicken tasted like the kind out of a can, and none of the food had any flavor! It was very bland. Halfway through my meal I ran out of soda and didn’t get a refill until she came to ask if we were ready for our check. My wife didn’t eat very much at all off her plate and yet we weren’t asked if something was wrong with our meals, or given any type of discount! It’s my opinion this is the worst Mexican restaurant in Frederick. I hope their drinks are good because that’s the only way they’ll stay in business. I consider the $ 37 I paid for this meal a lesson learned to not ever come here again. I hope my wife and I don’t get sick from this.

Los Toltecos is a favorite of mine. Generally I order the steak fajitas and I have yet to be disappointed. The margaritas are potent and fairly priced. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating.

Went there with a group of 6 for lunch. Wait staff was obviously understaffed and overwhelmed. We were seated about 15 minutes before a waitress came for our order, and then she stopped in the middle to run off and do something. The food came rather quickly but everything lacked seasoning, especially salt. The salsa tasted like tomato soup and when I asked for a hotter salsa she brought a hotter version with no flavor. I would not recommend this restaurant if you want a great Mexican meal.

Chorizo queso is super creamy and delicious. Margaritas were buy one get one free. We split the fajitas and the tortillas were warm and delicious. Sort of tacky interior, but I’ll definitely be back to try it again and maybe up the review to 5 stars. Definitely best queso in Frederick so far.

Subpar food, subpar service. Their waiters and waitresses aren’t very friendly and one time I couldn’t even hear what the waiter was saying. Went in for dinner once and for lunch once because I had a coupon. The food doesn’t seem fresh, one time the chips were stale, the other time delicious. The food is not as described on the menu lacking some components which I didn’t mind, but they should serve as listed or change the menu. The food was just okay. Can’t remember exactly what I ordered by I could’ve made a better version at home with fresh ingredients. If it was cheap maybe I’d consider it but prices don’t match quality of food either. Probably won’t be returning.

Should have stuck to my Unilocal rule: a 3 star is never good. 3 ½ stars can sometimes be good. 4&5 stars are always good. They need to have more than 7 reviews. Back to this place, guacamole had some ingredient I couldn’t identify, but it wasn’t avocado, lime, salt, or cilantro. It had the consistency of day old mashed potatoes. A Mexican restaurant with bad guacamole? Store bought would have been better. Their salsa is made from canned tomatoes. It didn’t get better.

We used to love this place. Thought we had found a hidden gem. Unfortunately, they have gone downhill and after tonight’s experience certainly will not return! The food was bland with very little flavor. My chimichanga was hard, stuck to the plate and cold. After the server sneered at me when I brought it to his attention the mistake by the kitchen on my daughters plate he took it back only to return with some creation microwaved so long it was mush! Then to top it off when I was asked if we wanted boxes, since obviously no one had eaten, I said«no thank you, it really was not very good» he then giggled at me and handed me the check!!! What on earth! We all left hungry and with lighter wallets. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food!!! Maybe if you are looking for a cheap drink but not a place to take friends and family!

I was so excited to come eat here. When we arrived, we waited 10 minutes to get seated with like three other groups behind us. When we were finally seated, we noticed every one who had gotten there after us had their drink orders and received their drinks. Meanwhile we had not even been approached by a waitress or waiter. Even a family that arrived 5 minutes after us were given service before us. We ended up leaving without having ordered anything since we were being ignored for 15 min! Completely unorganized and rude, aloof staff. Do not come here If u want good service. Never going back. I should have listened to my fiancée when he found a hair in his food about a year prior.

I enjoyed my visit for the most part, but the beef tacos and the nachos supreme are the worst I’ve had. Less then grade A beef. More like that taco meat taco bell use to serve. I’d say Taco Bell has better more authentic Mexican food.

Enjoyed the nachos, and their signature shrimp & pineapples dish. They had a $ 3.00 margarita special, and it was SLAMMIN! Trying something new one time, didn’t really pay off, but I’ll chalk that up to me wanting to experiment, and it not going entirely as planned. 4⁄5 dishes were great. Prices could be a little better, but it is a restaurant with wait-service.

Sad excuse for Mexican food. I started with a special margarita which tasted syrupy and devoid of alcohol. I should’ve heeded a previous Unilocaler’s note about the quick turnaround of dishes. Dinner came out in less than 10 mins last Friday night. My pork enchiladas were bland with a side of inedible guac. My friend’s beef dish tasted slightly better since the meat was tender. His dish reminded him of Taco Bell. After being disappointed by Los Toltecos, Santa Rosa, Fajita Grande and Café Bueno, I’ve given up on eating Mexican in Frederick.

Came in here on a Wednesday evening for the first time and I don’t know how I feel about this place. I truly wanted to like it. For starters, the ambience is your typical Mexican style restaurant; bright colors, warm and Latin music playing. The place seems clean, they also have a full bar. Now for service, our server was barely friendly but it’s okay; we came in around 9PM so she may have been tired and ready to get off. She wasn’t as fast as I’d like my servers to be, drinks took a while to be refilled and after our entrees it took a while to order dessert. As for the food. The chips and salsa are delicious. The menu is expansive and included lots of delicious sounding food. I would have ordered my typical Carne Asada(that’s the dish I use to gauge the quality of a Mexican Restro) but I wasn’t hungry. Instead I opted for a Steak Fajita Salad. The salad came in a crispy taco bowl(DELICIOUS) but the lettuce they use for the salad is ridiculous! It’s like the shredded lettuce they use for tacos and such. Not chopped romaine or any typical salad greens. Being shredded, they got very wilted when the hot steak was put on top. The portion size wasn’t bad, I would’ve preferred more steak. Overall the food was okay, I’ll try this place again and get the carne Asada so I can make a sound judgement. For dessert we had the Tres Leches which was okay, I like my tres Leches to be soaked in the milks and for the cake itself to be fluffy. They also have a full bar. Honestly, there aren’t really any GREAT Mexican restaurants in Frederick. Hopefully they get better the next time I stop by!

Some of the best Mexican I have ever had. Ordered the shrimp cevice appetizer. Shrimp was tender and the taste was light and refreshing. Entrée was the burrito jambalaya. This was outstanding. Burrito was well seasoned. The wife ordered fish tacos. They were good, although I don’t have anything to compare them to. The pineapple salsa can vary in spiciness. I recommend testing before applying. Service was good, nothing to write home about. Waiter was attentive but did not hover. I would eat here again. Definitely worth a try

So my family eats here on a regular basis. Usually Sunday evenings for our family dinner. Last week, we went and it was fabulous as usual. They at times have issues getting our orders right. A few of the servers dont speak the best English but overall they are a good bunch. Looking forward to spending Cino de Mayo her as its my mommas birthday. The food is spectacular, the staff now is great(before left some to be desired) and beyond friendly. If you want good food for reasonable prices, this is the place to eat.

The service and the churros, I give 2 stars. I’m sad my boyfriend had to pay for this meal. Taco bell has more flavor. I ordered the combination of 3 items. I got ground beef taco, ground beef enchilada, and ground beef chalupa. I don’t understand the ground beef in this stuff, it was too grounded and tasteless. My taco was soggy and really bland. I have no clue why American cheese came with everything but it wasn’t very good in my opinion. My boyfriend boxed up his fajitas and while they were finishing their drinks we thought someone kept farting but turns out it was just the food in our box. We like casa Rico.

Well, I have semi-mixed emotions about this place after we had lunch here today. Mostly good though. First, their sweet tea is so gross. I struggled through it but my mom sent hers back. It tasted just like a liquid cough syrup I had in the past. Not sure what is going on there but it’s really, really bad. Also, the hard shell tacos are pretty gross. The shells were stale and it just had a really odd taste overall. Also, they plopped my son’s taco down into his beans so it was somehow stale AND soggy; really not even edible. Other than those issues, everything else was good. I had a beef chimichanga and it had a great texture and great flavor. I’m also stoked they have white cheese dip. That’s like a Mexican place must back home but this is the first place I found it around here. Their salsa, beans(black and refried) and rice were all good as well. I also noticed they had a pretty extensive happy hour(1−6pm, I believe) so I think that might be worth checking out. Moral of the story: Not the best Mexican food I’ve had in Frederick but not a bad place to eat. Steer clear of the sweet tea and hard shell tacos and you should be alright.

I wanted to love Los Toltecos since there don’t seem to be a lot of Mexican restaurants in Frederick. Even though it’s in the middle of a strip mall, it looks bright and cheery from the outside, and they even have a couple of tables on the sidewalk when the weather allows. Turned out okay but not great as I’d hoped. The main problem is the service. My guess is that the restaurant is short staffed. When we arrived, there was no one at the host stand so we crept closer uncertainly to the dining area until a server noticed us and led us to a table. Once seated, it was legit 10 minutes before our server greeted us and brought chips and salsa. Speaking of, while the chips were crispy and warm, the salsa was bland and tasted almost like spaghetti sauce. A generous dose of hot sauce livened it up. For my entrée, I had the chimichanga. Los Toltecos serves this differently than every other restaurant, in that they give you two small chimichangas instead of one big one. I liked that since I chose one beef and one chicken, and both were good. The chicken in particular was really juicy and flavorful, and didn’t need to be smothered in guac and sour cream as it was. The refried beans are usually from a can in these places but I enjoyed mine, probably because they had a sprinkle of melted cheese. My companion’s fish tacos tasted a bit oily to me but he enjoyed them. I give them props for offering a choice between flour and corn tortillas with the tacos, not that it mattered because he was incorrectly given flour tortillas. Finally, it was time for the moment I’d been waiting for all night… Fried ice cream! Alas, I was hugely disappointed. Instead of the usual cinnamon coating, Toltecos rolls their ice cream in Rice Krispies and sticks a Krispies square in the softball sized ice cream scoop. They use regular vanilla ice cream instead of French vanilla. I didn’t care for this new interpretation but my date called it a fat boy’s wet dream.

DH and I started with the Veracruz Dipping to accompany our complimentary chips and salsa. There was a generous amount of shrimp and scallops in the dip. The salsa was also fresh and delicious. For my lunch, I chose the Veracruz burrito. Once again, they did not skimp on scallops and shrimp. The tomatillo sauce was very tasty. Rice and refried beans were standard sides; nothing extraordinary but not bad. Hubby got the two item combination. He selected a chicken tamale and the beef chimichanga. I sampled a bite of each and really liked the beef chimi. It was perfectly spiced. The chicken tamale was good but not spicy enough for me. A dash of Cholula hot sauce corrected that. Rice and refried beans finished his combo. Lunch portions were a great size. I don’t think I could finish the dinner size. We split a fried ice cream for dessert. I can’t give an unbiased review because I love fried ice cream and its hard to displease me with one. Los Toltecos’ fried ice cream is topped with honey, chocolate, whipped cream and a strawberry, served in a fried tortilla bowl. Service was fast and friendly. Refills on drinks came quickly. The restaurant was quiet for a Saturday afternoon lunch at about 12:45 but I was ok with that. It was nice to relax and enjoy our meal. Hubby and I have decided to come back one night and try the margaritas, which there seems to be a large and varied selection of.
