this place is horrible. It even makes Taco Bell food look ‘authentic” and good. While the complimentary salsa(pico de gallo) was decent, the chips were not so good. We ordered simple to mess up items, and, they were inedible. There were two East Indian men running the place, and one disappeared into the kitchen, so I suspect he is what they call their cook. There are good, authentic places, and why oh why, I went here is something I will never understand.

The Poblano Grill is one of the big reasons I miss Ft. Detrick — today brought me back in the area. Great, authentic Mexican food, with no frills or frilly prices. Today, was it absolute BEST Steak Fajita Chimichanga I’ve ever had? Probably not. Is it the best one I’ve had for under $ 10? Absolutely. Hence my 5-stars. It is all about quality & value for me. Service is great. Chips & salsa are fresh & tasty.

Go there pretty frequently since it is close. Food is good not great. Need more seasoning or something. Food is sometimes blander than it should be.

I’ve driven by this place hundreds of times but just never felt compelled to pop in. Now that I have, I can pretty much go back to our drive-on-by relationship. The food is mediocre and in need of some serious spices(or at least some salt, man). The cheese dip wasn’t terrible and the chips seemed fresh… but that’s really all I can say that’s positive about the food. It seems pretty dirty in there with random weird smells abound. Not to mention the holes in the table cloths and chairs and just overall dinginess. I’m all for a dive but cleaning the tables with a sour rag is a no-no in any situation. Plus, you’ve got to have much better food to successfully pull off the dive vibe. Sorry guys. We won’t be back.

My last review was of Chevy’s(Tex Mex), and for me it has always been a 5 star place. But there’s no Chevy’s that is located around Frederick, so I’ve been on a hunt to find a suitable Mexican joint that’s more local to me. And I think Poblano Grill is it(for now). I was actually surprised by some of the reviews. The place was clean, the staff was kind, and my food was awesome. Maybe it’s just because I usually get tacos, which are pretty hard to screw up(here’s looking at you, Café Bueno –__-), so I’m rarely disappointed. But the chicken in my tacos was spiced just right, the shells were perfectly cooked, and even the sides of beans and rice were good as well. When I left the restaurant, I was seriously thinking«Is there anything negative I can say about this place?» And I couldn’t come up with anything. So it doesn’t matter that this is just some generic American Mexican restaurant. They had no foul ups for me, so I can’t give any less than a 5⁄5.

Last time here. This is my second try and again I’m disappointed. They are not Latino so maybe that’s why the seasoning and cooking style is way off. The chips they bring to the table are very thin and not flavorful at all. They didn’t make a huge effort to bring more out when we finished a small basket between 4 people. The salsa was okay, nothing special and definitely not restaurant made. The tap water was not good either. I live on base and don’t drink the tap here and not at the store. Order a another beverage instead. My wife ordered Macho Nacho and it seems like it was made first and brought out last. They chips were soggy as hell! Guac added was $ 1.50 «yikes». I ordered the Luncheon Chimi which was a small chimichanga and it was beef. The meat was like sloppy joe meat and tasted nothing like Spanish food. The beans and rice were also gross. Have no idea how this place is still in business. My mother had taco salad and she liked it. My son had chicken quesadilla and he didn’t like it which is normally his go-to when we’re at a *Mexican Restaurant. I took the advice of a reviewer and paid in CASH because they can always reprint your card info later and sell or use your credit card info.

Beware and pay cash here!!! Avoid using your credit card. I visited the other day with coworkers and not only did my credit card get charged TWICE, the very next day I am getting fraudulent charges from some place I never heard of and I had not used the card where I let it out of my sight anywhere else. The food is okay, but I have had this place as my go-to for awhile… but this has me never going back again. Something is not right.

There was little I liked about this eatery. I will itemize my observations. The place is pretty small, but to make things worse, they squeezed tables into spaces where there should be none. The doorway into the kitchen had shortened saloon-type doors that allowed you to partially see into the work space. The men’s bathroom was just one small room without any cubicles, which is my favorite type. But when I went to lock the door, I wasn’t sure that the door knob would lock. Thank goodness, I thought, the door has a slide to prevent anyone from opening the door. However, the lever was improperly installed and had no effect. I peed quickly. The man who seemed to manage the restaurant and had given us our menus and taken our drink order was also our waiter. For me, it kind of ruined things for me that he wasn’t Latino. I began to wonder who(of what ethnicity) was devising the menu and cooking the food. We both ordered steak fajitas. I didn’t like the way the steak was cooked. 99.99% of the restaurants produce strips of steak that are blackened to a certain degree. This results in a yummy flavor. Poblano Grill’s steak looked like it had been boiled or steamed. No blackening at all. It had arrived in a fry pan, but it looked as though it had not been cooked in one. Did not take American Express.

This place is okay but the food is not authentic food! Ordered a beef burrito which was Americanized. Very small place more of a quick sit in restaurant. Don’t recommend for large groups.

Delicious! This place doesn’t look like much from the outside but the food tells a different story. Savory meats, delicious sauces and awesome drinks! My family will be going here again!

Finally tried Poblano Grill. I would definitely go there again. The one disappointing aspect was that the chips were very stale. But the salsa was excellent. Luckily, I did take out so I was ale to break out the Tostito chips and still enjoy the salsa. The chips were tossed in the trash. Also, I had the enchiladas which were very good and would order again. Would recommend to folks.

This is a great little mexican restaurant. It doesn’t look like anything special when you walk in, but the food is quite good. Not sure if the salsa is fresh, and it was a little more spicy than I would have liked, but my chicken fajita chimi was really excellent. The onions and peppers were sauteed perfectly so that they were still colorful and had good texture and the flavor on the chicken was very good.

Authentic Mexican food, served by attentive staff at great prices with bar service. Not fancy, but clean, comfortable with fast dinner service. I won’t wax on about Burrotos, Echiladas or even the very reasonable combination plates. They’re traditional. Mexican staples done the way the should be. Never disappointed and rerun often.

I tried this place out based on the reviews, and while I can totally understand it as a convenient go-to place for lunch breaks during the week, I’m not completely buying it as a legitimate dinner destination. We stopped in on a Saturday night around 4:30 or so – which I concede is early for a weekend dinner — and were one of two tables. The restaurant itself feels a little generic to me. It’s small and cozy, but there’s not much in the way of real personality. As there weren’t many customers, the service was attentive and quick, if not particularly engaging or bubbly(which I’m 100% okay with, but I know a lot of people wouldn’t agree). The food was good, but again, there wasn’t anything special about it. I enjoyed the chips and salsa served at the table, but as another reviewer mentioned, I could buy basically the same thing at the grocery store. Chips and salsa are can’t-miss anyway. I had a frozen original margarita which I quite enjoyed(the bar is certainly well-stocked with variety), and the Pollo Poblano for dinner, as it had been recommended here by some other reviewers. It was good, but I would hardly go as far as the reviewer who referred to it as «a signature dish that really is deserving of bearing the restaurant’s name.» The dish was more or less sizzling chicken strips in a creamy, cheesy sauce with mushrooms served with rice, beans, tortillas, and sour cream and lettuce. In other words: fajitas. It was filling, served blazing hot, and the ingredients all tasted fresh, but it just wasn’t a blow-me-away dish. To put it another way: I’d need to go in several more times and try a few other things on the menu before I’d feel compelled to order it again. If you’re nearby and looking for something fairly quick, Poblano Grill is a safe bet. If you’re looking for memorable food or atmosphere, there are a number of other Mexican restaurants in Frederick that can at least provide equal food with much better ambiance.

I went here for lunch and thought it was just ok… nothing I would go out of my way for. I ordered the veggie fajitas… veggies were kind of overcooked and seasoning was subpar. Chips and salsa were not as good as what I’d buy at the grocery store. The service was quick, which would make it a good lunch choice if you work nearby. The waiter was friendly and efficient. Restaurant is small, but colorful and upbeat. The bar looked extensive. I think for a fast lunch, Fajita Grande is the better choice – and much cheaper. For better food, try Cacique or Mexicali Cantina.

While there are more authentic places for Latin food in Frederick, this one is considerably more gringo-friendly and far more predictable. The small, clean dining room is pleasantly decorated and colorful. Service is very polite and always prompt. And the food is well above average, thanks in no small part to excellent sauces and what appear to be very fresh ingredients. The guacamole is top notch … and I rarely order anything except the Pollo Poblano, a signature dish that really is deserving of bearing the restaurant’s name. BTW, they also have a full bar with a whole slew of maragritas and a good selection of Mexican cerveza. It really helps that this place is in my neighborhood, but it is also worth seeking out if you live in Frederick and are looking for high-quality, Mexican-American fare. NOTE: They offer a 15% discount to active members of the military, a wise and generous move considering they are just outside the gates of Fort Detrick.

We love this place. Whenever we go, it’s never crowded, although I’m told during the week at lunchtime it’s packed– all the Ft. Detrick employees go there since it’s right outside the gate. The food is great, comes out fast, and is reasonably priced. The ambiance is less than appealing,(We think it’s kind of funny, but EVERYTIME we go there the same Mexican song is playing over and over and over) but if you’re looking for a good Mexican meal, overlook that and dive in. Super yummy.

One of the better Mexican Restaurants in Frederick Md. It is small about 14 tables but the food is worth the wait. Can get a bit tight once filled up so get there early.
