I have seen several drs. in this practice, but Dr. Shorter for the past five years or so. I prefer the Fredericksburg office over the Stafford as the wait time is less and it’s closer to home for me. Dr. Shorter is a great doctor, easy to talk to for those who may be uncomfortable with the whole gyn experience. She always walks in with a big smile making you feel welcomed, does not rush the appointment, listens to your concerns and takes necessary action if needed. I find the office staff and nurses to be courteous and efficient at their job duties. If a message is left, the call is returned in a timely manner. They are good about calling with results when special tests are done, but don’t call back for normal PAPs. This is one thing I wish were different, as test results don’t always get reported to the office from labs and this in turn can lead to abnormal results not being reported/received.

I love them, they are the best ob’s and gynecologist’s I’ve ever had. Very care and real. I mainly see Dr. James, but during my pregnancy I also saw Dr. Thott, And Dr. Shorter. I saw Dr. Kirkwood and Dr. Asante once. I felt they were always there if I needed. After I delivered which I ended up getting induced at the Mary Washington location after a night of wrk due to hbp, they still were caring and there for my health. I lost my child three months later. They sent me flowers, and we’re so so caring and understanding when I had to come in for things after wards. I haven’t been back in a while and it’s definitely due time. I trust them with all my womanly needs.

When I lived in Stafford I went to the Stafford location; now that I live in Fred I go to the Fred one. I’ve already reviewed the Stafford one, focusing on how great Dr. James is. So for this review the only different thing to talk about is the location. I love that they have multiple offices. The wait here, however, tends to be a bit longer than the Stafford one, though I’m not sure why. But the office staff is very friendly and they were so nice when I called recently because of some unexpected bleeding. Even though the wait is longer, I do think I prefer the waiting room here; they have a tv that’s usually on something entertaining(unlike the Stafford one that is just medical information), and, I know this is awkward, but at the Stafford location theres a bathroom in the waiting area and let’s just say the walls are pretty thin. Anywho! If you need an OBGYN, definitely give Dr. James a try. Just bring a book:)
