The café no longer exists as a sit down coffee shop. There is still a drive through but that’s not what I needed today.

The Lighthouse Store in the Payless parking lot has closed, but the drive thru is still open. When we can spree for a good cup of coffee, we’re so happy that one of the best coffee places is just down the street. They have specials everyday, but I usually have a nonfat carmel latte… YUM! Coffee can be pricey, but Whidbey Coffee is fairly reasonable. Extra shots are a mere 35cents(Starbucks is almost double!). There’s rarely a line and service is quick. It’s a great place for a cup ‘o joe!

I guess this used to be called Whidbey’s Lighthouse Café, but the sign out front says Whidbey Coffee Café… I love coming here when I need to focus on computer work. It’s friendly enough, yet large enough — and lends itself to anonymity enough — to get some work done. Pleasant enough environment, and pleasant staff. Good place to talk privately, too. These things might sound strange to someone who’s not an islander, but it’s hard here to even go into Pay Less(grocery store) without running into people you know, and who want to talk. That’s great when you’re looking for that(and sometimes I am), but for getting work done on the island, Whidbey Coffee Café is the place for me.

Was introduced to this café by some local Whidbey Islanders also… I’ve been a few times and it always seems to be somewhat busy, but not too busy, with people reading their newspapers and enjoying their drinks and pastries or breakfast when I’ve gone. It’s quaint and welcoming inside and has some tables if you want to go in to sit and eat. Service has always been nice and prompt, but never met the owner… So, I can’t speak of him. Think this is a great place for a hot cup of tea(many selections), or a cup of coffee or latte after freezing on the beach or after camping /staying somewhere on the Island. Pastries are good and breakfast seems to be good also, told to me by who was eating it. I wouldn’t so much suggest their Grilled Cheese sandwich or other afternoon dining items that I’ve tried. Couldn’t speak for their sandwiches though… None of us have had those… Never tried the drive through, so couldn’t speak of that… Maybe some things to try and do an update with(drive through and sandwiches).

I agree with nic f. — the café is fine if you really want to go in and sit down(and the breakfast sammies are pretty good), but the drive-through coffee stand is the BEST. Not only do the baristas take your order in a timely manner(coming outside the booth to write orders down from the cars that are lined up!), they make some damn fine coffee, and they’re always super smiley. In addition to the usual suspects, they always have some kind of fun specialty drink — my new current favorite for St. Patty’s Day: Irish Cream & Caramel latte! Yum, yum and yum.

very important advice: SKIPTHECAFE and, instead, use the handy dandy whidbey’s drive-through at the end of the ace parking lot, across from payless. the manager that works in the café is a narcissistic jerk but the ladies who work in the drive-through are fantastic. if megan’s the barista that day, look out for a truly exceptional drink. she’s awesome. and i’ll admit it: on summer days when i’m sweaty and cursing the lack of air conditioning, their frozen mocha(not my normal cup of tea at all) is deeeeeeeeelicious.
