Why did they close this place? It was so good does anyone know if they opened another restaurant somewhere or any other halal restaurant that serves good fried chicken

I went here for lunch with my family and ordered the following: –Cheeseburger Meal –Chicken Nuggets –Beef Soft Tacos The meal was good and made to order. We dined in, very pleasant atmosphere. Everything was piping hot and juicy. The cheeseburger really fills you up. The ground beef in the tacos just needed a little more seasoning but they were still enjoyable. The chicken nuggets were very juicy and crunchy. I like that they have a large selection of dishes to choose from. In my opinion, it might be little pricey to come regularly but I will definitely visit again. I did try the fried chicken once before and I agree with some of these reviews that its not one of their best dishes but I have yet to taste anything else that I didn’t like here.

Have been driving by this place for years, but have always opted for KFC when in the mood for chicken. I am a big fan of supporting local businesses, so time to try. Place was clean, and the service was friendly. The chicken is not bad, but lacks seasoning in a big way and in no way resembles big Texas flavors. I had corn on the cob and it too was just corn. No salt, butter, pepper or anything else to give it some life. Its just steamed and served. My other side was mashed potatoes and gravy. This was where the train really derailed. Potatoes were seasoned consistently with the rest of the food, which is to say it wasn’t at all. They were also neither light nor fluffy. Instead very dense and lifeless, better suited for wall repair than for consumption. The gravy was better than the potatoes, but clearly created by someone unfamiliar with Southern cuisine. Finally the biscuit. Looked fantastic, but again was all wrong. Instead of moist and flakey, it was dull and rubbery. I swear it would actually bounce if dropped to the floor. Maybe the fish is good, maybe the burgers are better, but I’ll never know. The fact that the items for which the business gets it’s name are so poor, I do not hold out hope for the others. I think unfortunately you have 2 big hurdles going on here: The menu is way too varied to be good at anything. The food is being cooked from people who do not truly understand Southern cooking. Seem like nice people and I wish them well, but they should consider a name and menu change.

Delicious. Crispy. Deep fried. All that a fried chicken place should be. 100% zabiha-halal to boot. Have visited twice; have to stop myself from visiting every time I am in the area. Could have more options for spicy and other types of fried chicken. I’ve only tried the fried chicken but have heard good things about other items on the menu.

False advertisement! There is nothing Texas about this chicken. Those in Fremont that like this place obviously know nothing about good southern food. I took a few bites of the chicken, biscuit and the mashed potatoes, then I had to throw it away immediately. This is my first review I believe and I needed to write this right when I was done. If you’re expecting Texas style chicken, stray far far away from here.

It’s been a while and my review needs updating but when reading my original review I realized that I’d write nearly the same thing today even though it’s been 2+ years. Note: This is Not KFC and it doesn’t taste like KFC. The chicken is high quality. That’s what comes of using halal meat(nothing can be added, that means no MSG, no hormones, etc., etc.). I’ll bet Texas Chicken pays a heck of a lot more for their birds than KFC pays for its hormone-laden, artificially fattened cluckers. Even though it’s fried, it’s not greasy at all yet the skin is still crispy. It doesn’t taste overly salted(that’s because there’s no MSG). It’s moist and juicy and downright delicious. Perfectly cooked. Five stars for the fried chicken! The biscuits are a bit different than most; they’re firmer, like a cross between a biscuit and a roll. Tasty. Their side orders are their only failing and that cost them a star. Every one I’ve tried has been meh(acceptable but blah). On the other hand, I’m not going here for the sides — I’m here for the fried chicken! The price is very good, about what you’d expect to pay — definitely good value for their big, meaty pieces of chicken. They had quite a variety of other stuff on the menu, including phillie cheese steak sandwiches, burgers, gyros, wings, etc. They don’t seem to cook up a bunch of stuff ahead of time so we’ve often had to wait several minutes while they cook our order Fresh! It’s worth waiting for!

I went there for the first time today. I would usually leave a review after multiple trips but I think this place deserves a review now. The fried chicken was awesome. They use expensive chicken(Tahir brand — all natural hand slaughtered and what not) and this makes a difference in the taste. The chicken was cooked thoroughly but still juicy and crispy. I have NO idea what people are talking a about below(old ownership perhaps) The lady asked me if I wanted the pieces under the heat lamp or a fresh batch. I went for the fresh batch obviously. The 20 minute wait is definitely on the long side but worth it. The French fries were not bad but I did not like the biscuits. The Philly cheese steak was not bad either but I did not like that there was a lot fat on the beef still. The important part is that I came to get some good chicken and that I did!

I was on my way to the hardware store and Texas Chicken caught my eye. I’ve passed this place several times, but I was never in the hungry mood. Looking for a new place to check out I thought I would give this place a try, especially when I saw the sign saying that they also have fish and chips. Also with a name like«Texas Chicken» I was thinking in the back on my mind that this was a national chain that was branching out… in Fremont? no less on Thornton Ave. of all places? Anyway, I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt. Here goes. I walked into the restaurant and it felt like it was a national chain/mom and pop store. It had what appeared corporate photos of the food on the wall along with corporate signs and displays mixed in with handwritten signs(they should really invest in a color printer) and folky art that tried to make the place feel like«Texas». Not only that, but the place could use some sprucing up and cleaning, as well. So my level of doubt was creeping up a bit. I walked in with the intention of trying out both chicken and fish, but the moment I was the chicken sitting in the glass display under the heating lamps, I lost all interest. Not only that, but it didn’t seem like there was much business going on so you know its been sitting there for a very long time. So I took a pass and just order the fish and chips to go. The fish and fries were made to order(I wish it was the same for the chicken) and came with a small container of cole slaw(which was decent), a small container of tartar sauce, and a large portion of fries served in a lunch box. The weird thing is that they shut the lid of the box with a Texas Chicken logo sticker, which wasn’t really necessary. Did they expect the fish to jump out? Or maybe they were concerned that I was going to eat and drive on my way home? Anyway, I thought it was pointless and a waste of money. I got home and the the fish was OK. Not the best, but OK. I got two pieces of fish that were on the smaller portion than I am use to seeing at other place and it was simply battered. It was decent, edible, but not that great and definitely not worth coming back for. Suffice to say, I give this place two stars. If you don’t believe me just read the other negative reviews. If not, try it out for yourself… and you will only be repeating what others have already have said.

Just Terrible, decided to give it a chance. Failure… Customer Service: Real bad, My friend and I decided to give the place a chance we walked in(we were the only ones there!) and the gentlemen looked dazed & confused, he didnt understand what I was ordering. he brought an older lady to take our order. Chicken was under a lamp for who knows how long, I asked for a fresh batch but took 20 minutes.(idk why I didn’t take my money and leave) anyways, the food is basically out of a can, the mashed potatoes the coleslaw, even the BISCUITS! they didn’t even provide plates or utensils, how are we suppose to eat? with our hands?! had to go next door to the liquor store to buy them. Over Priced food, cheap unprofessional service. I will not be coming back here again. I should’ve bought tacos instead. Believe the negative reviews folks they are true!

Not gonna Halal back. Sad to say it, but All the bad reviews are true. The price was too high, the chicken strips literally tasted like cardboard. The People who work there are nice. The reason for 1 star. The chicken wings were OK(we did not get food poisoning). the reason for 1 star.

Texas chicken, Service: over and beyond! Food: tasty and halal! Me and my husband had our late night cravings and decided to drive to Texas chicken, Fremont from Palo Alto. I called in advance and asked what time they were closing. Person on the phone said in about ten minutes. I asked if they would still serve us, if we arrived late, he said yes. Yay! That was really nice of him. Texas cheeseburger is really great. Gyros are also. Great mix of food. We usually buy meals for the whole family. Fried chicken with biscuits. The food never fails.

Called«what’s great? do you have any family meals?» Our menu is on FB… ok I showed up, 12 pieces of chicken sitting, they only sell 816 pieces «so how about the chicken wings?» No wings No rice No green beans So I got the family meal…4 biscuits 2 lg sides 8 pieces of chicken. I tried… I tried The chicken was inedible, I only got 3 biscuits(that’s all that were left) hockey pucks really. The gravy on the powdered mash potatoes… must be canned… and at that they had to scrape the remaining gravy… I should have just walked away. There’s trouble down in Texas if this was Texas Chicken!

Halal fried chicken is the only reason why I will return. Where did we go wrong? 1. Please do not put cumin or any other spice that is outside of good olé fried chicken spices on chicken tenders. 2. Please fry the chicken tenders so that they are crunchy and not reminiscent of Japanese tempura batter. 3. Please make sure your grease is piping hot BEFORE you drop the chicken in otherwise you will have oil filled chicken… YES the thigh was unbelievable greasy. 4. Your prices should never be that high for some chicken. 5. If all of the above is happening you should at least have friendly customer service. Picture this: We walk in, a young girl(high school maybe), sitting on a fryer on her phone while another man(who was friendly) attempted to help us, but did not know anything about the menu. So, the inattentive girl on the fryer barks short, cold responses to our questions as she rarely looks up from her phone. Oh, the fries were good.

Finally stopped in today after passing by this place numerous times. I expected another Popeye’s/KFC chicken place, but was delighted that they serve more than chicken. I ordered a Texas burger and two pieces of chicken to go. The burger was cooked right in front me, full of mayo, onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato slice, It tastes similar to a Five Guy’s burger. The chicken was delicious, not too greasy. Better than above mentioned chicken places. They also have tacos, shrimp and other items I will try on a future visit.

*****DISCLOSURE: This review is based on their take out service***** The good thing here is that the owners offer friendly and offer great service. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the take out meal. After a day at the beach with the family, my bro in law wanted to give this place a try. We ended up ordering the following: — 8 piece chicken with biscuits — 6 hot wings — 2 sides: mashed potatoes and gravy & potato salad. The chicken(regular and hot wings) tasted more baked than fried. It reminded me of the«Shake & Bake» recipe I had back in the day. Only had that once and that was it. The biscuits included with the meal were very hard and dry. They just crumbled after biting into one. The mashed potatoes & gravy turned me off from excessive oil in the gravy. That was a first for me to see. The potato salad was decent. After my only one serving of our take out meal, I was over it. The service is great, but I’m going to have to pass on coming back.

Last Monday night I was craving for fried chicken however my favorite place for fried chicken Maharlika was already closed. I went to Texas Chicken, which is close to Marhalika, a couple of times before. Their chicken is moist and not greasy at all so you don’t up end up feeling bloated. When you go to Texas Chicken you noticed their chicken is Halal. There are some who might have a problem with this. Who cares? This is America. You can’t hate the American dream if you want to assimilate by earning a living and supporting your family. This is their interpretation of an American classic. The only thing I would criticize is if the name of your eatery involves the word chicken then you should only specialize this; they have other American classics like hamburger and fish and chips. If you craving for fried chicken, if Maharlika is closed this is another alternative.

This location has been changing businesses for the past 10 years. From my count this is the 3rd or 4th change that I have seen. Let’s see if they last. Came here to check out there Texas Chicken and More, it looks like a chain. However it does not seem so when you come in, they were still trying to get their act together. They have«future» menu items, that twill not be available until a later date. They also did not have any menus, other then the signage above the counter. GOOD: Chicken — may be we lucked out and got the fresh cooked ones. The chicken was tender, juicy and has a nice coating. Nice crispy skin. Cole slaw — nice and fresh, good balance of ingredients OKAY: Hot Wings — it was not made fresh, the sauce was lacking, felt flat or generic. This does not hold a candle to Hooters, Wing Stop or even Chili’s. NOT: Mashed Potatoes — dry, no flavor, needed ALL the gravy they offered and then some. Biscuits — dry, dense and hard Wished they offered free refills on the soda. The greatest claim to fame is that the food is Halal.

Meh, this place was just ok. Even with the appealing prices, I don’t think I’d come back here on purpose. The chicken is KFC style, more on the breaded side and not crispy. It *tastes* just like KFC(over-seasoned and salty), except that the chicken pieces do not look like they came from roided, mutated chickens. The biscuits are flat and wide, not like how they are pictured on their menu, and were probably the best part of our dinner order. I did not like how the large drink was so small, and they charge 59 cents for a refill. I did not like how I had to keep going back to the counter for napkins, ketchup, hot sauce — they won’t offer, and you’ll have to ask. I’m all for frugal, but really? You expect me to get down with your fried chicken with two napkins and two swigs of soda? The workers were nice, so that’s what the two stars are for.

This place caught my eye as I was driving down Thornton one night, and I finally got the chance to try it a few days ago. The place is brand new so the seating area was clean and plentiful. They obviously serve fried chicken which is sold like KFC/Popeye’s with # of chicken pieces + sides or chicken only. So it’s great for a family dinner. They also serve additional items like chicken nuggets and even burgers. I was so fixated on the fried chicken menu that I wasn’t able to thoroughly study the other parts of the menu. The BF and I ordered a 5-Piece Combo with 2 sides and an order of Hot Wings(BF only — I stuck with the Fried Chicken). The chicken was pretty good! The skin was crispy and tasty while the meat was juicy and full of flavor. I did not find my food undercooked at all — it was perfect! We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes which I think were pretty small and a side of corn. I also opted out on buying drinks here because I noticed that the cups were pretty small. Their largest sized drink would probably be a small/medium compared to Jack In The Box or something. Anyway, we’ll definitely be returning. The manager/owner who rang us up said that the chicken will be as fresh and crispy as the day we bought it even as leftovers. Hmm… I don’t know about that, but I’ll be back to test that theory.
