ihave lived in fresno all my life and know chicken pie shop to be a staple, but come on i just ate there. Where is the health departmentment on that place it dirty, the booths are duct taped the food is being prepared in the open with door opening up, the help no hand washing, gravey was powder taste, they are in one of the biggest buildings in tower why do owners think thier dirty building with major health and building code problems ok? what makes them above the law? If a new business where to open up in tower I am sure the health department and city would be there? where are they on this? Call the health department and American with disabilities I could not use bathroom, but its just as dirty as kitchen,

We just had 2 chicken pie lunch specials with biscuits and whipped potatoes. The service was good and fast and most importantly, delicious! We even took one to go for the sister in law because she was unable to make it.

Love this place. Took my kids of 8,&12 years old to give them a taste of Fresno history, and they loved the place, they were amazed by old diner style inside. all the food made of scratch you can’t go wrong. so get the kids and head down to tower for some good food and a taste of old Fresno history.

It’s always a hit or miss when I come here. I started to notice a pattern. Anytime I have the younger girls wait on me, they are excellent. Always a coffee refill, or asking if I need anything. The Asian short haired brunette is the worst. She promises a coffee refill, but you’ll not get it. She yelled at me once for her mistake of serving me the wrong dish. I like breakfast here, walking distance from my house. And Irene’s is closer to my house but is pathetic. I will continue to come here, but cross my fingers for the blonde gals to wait on me.

This place is simply delicious. This establishment serves up the most wonderful, flavorful-homestyle chicken pot pies. The menu offers the best in old fashioned Americana cuisine. Five stars.

Ok were do I start? First I ordered pot roast and what was brought to me was not pot roast it was this dried up meat with what tasted like box mashed potatoes. So we ordered a chicken pot pie and behold a nice black hair was in the pie. So then ordered a blt Pretty hard to screw one of those up. All though I do have to say the place has personality and the server was very nice. But the quality of tge food was very very bad and we will not return.

I love the fun fifty’s the floor of the place! Why you look so let the place did feel a little bit danky. The food was average and could have used a little bit more flavor. But overall I would definitely go back because I like the feel of the place and the service.

The Chicken Pie Shop is not what it use to be which was unfortunate. The chicken pies were sparse when it came to their chicken content and a little too salty according to my dining compatriots. It was breakfast time so I had eggs, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. The eggs and hash browns were good but the biscuits and gravy were very bland tasting. No real sausage or pepper flavor. Overall, the Chicken Pie Shop has slipped a bit from earlier times.

There’s just something about stepping into this diner that takes me back to what I imagine the 50’s must have felt like. Some might be turned off by the original, retro interior but I love it. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge. We enjoyed a pot pie meal which included salad, a large and fresh chicken pot pie, sides(veggies and mashed potatoes with delicious chicken gravy) AND pie for dessert. Other comfort food options are available, too. Everything tasted homemade, not precooked or boxed. From the counter to the cozy booths to the waitresses in their aproned uniforms, it’s a great atmosphere; the number of regulars and longevity speaks to the great service and good food.

Looking to step back in time or to just sit back and listen to the conversations of old time locals, then Chicken Pie Shop is your place. The food is a step above your typical diner food. You are not going to find anything fancy or a dish that’s going to win the next«Best of» award but what you will find is the classics cooked to perfection the old fashion way. The interior is a preserved time piece, from its lime green furniture to the Tower District event posters that cover its walls, and fell the history of the place from the moment you walk in. The staff is always great and if you show up a second time they will remember you as well as they know the menu. Could I give a laundry list of improvements? Yes, and I am sure anyone could but then it wouldn’t be Chicken Pie Shop. They are absolutely great for who they are and what they bring to Fresno! If you live and Fresno and haven’t been you are missing out. If you are passing through town it’s a must stop to take in the history of the wonderful Tower District.

This Fresno institution is the best. We love this place. The prices are reasonable and the food is pretty darn good. I’ve had better food but this place is just fun. It’s old, kind of kitschy and eating here is like going back in time. I always get a chicken pie. It’s not a pot pie but a chicken pie. In addition I always get the mash potatoes and gravy and biscuits. It’s comfort food from another time and place. I hope it never goes away.

DELICIOUS! I’ve lived in Fresno my whole life and am a Fresno enthusiast. So, I had to finally try the Chicken Pie Shop. It was just as delicious as everyone had said! The crust was flaky on the outside and buttery and soft on the inside. The service was great! Very fast, and friendly. They kept our coffee cups filled the whole time. The décor is original,(needs repairs but the nostalgia is too cool). We have officially found a new favorite spot!

Love classic diners and comfort food? Go to the Chicken Pie Shop and make your dreams come true. Mind-blowing fact: The«Pot» in Chicken«Pot» Pie means Potato, which you’ll have none of inside a delicious Chicken Pie from the Chicken Pie Shop. Although my wife and I love to eat at the Chicken Pie Shop, with their 1950’s ambiance perfectly preserved and their super veteran servers who haven’t needed to reference the menu for a couple decades, we prefer more to order carry out, since we live close and really only want a Chicken Pie, a couple biscuits, and, maybe(maaaaaaaybe), a side of slaw each. The Chicken Pie is THE chicken pie that your grandma used to make, if your grandma hated vegetables and was a great cook. It’s a delightful, flakey, buttery crust encapsulating a den of gravy and chicken pieces. That’s it and that’s heaven. Their biscuits are nearly always different and, to be truthful, not very tasty, but we get them every time still because it just feels right.(My wife says she loves them, but I believe her thoughts must be clouded) The Cole Slaw is fantastic, traditional, and always sweet, crunchy, goodness. Why pickup versus eat in? If you eat in, which you should for your first time, at least, you’ll typically end up ordering a Chicken Pie meal, which includes mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, and two biscuits, which costs the price of a meal, of course, and is too filling, IMO. If you pickup, you can order just a chicken pie(or 2) and some biscuits and indulge in the senses in the privacy of your own home or any public park nearby, for a lower overall cost and maybe even more pleasure. Have guests over but don’t want to cook? Give ‘em a call in advance for orders of over 4 chicken pies and share your love of comfort food with your closest friends– they’ll become better friends and the Chicken Pie Shop will live a longer, more prosperous life. Either way, try it, eat it, love it.

Food is delicious home style food. Great chicken pies — just chicken and onions. We came because Alton Brown just came here. The chicken pie omelet has more chicken than the lunch baked chicken pie plus breakfasts come with biscuits and gravy which were fantastic! Neighborhood seems to be improving, including a Starbucks! Lol. Service was great.

Old school and I mean old school… it’s everything I want in a greasy spoon. Food and venue are nostalgic. Haven’t tried anything other than the Pot Pie, but then again, It’s the only pot pie worth driving too… period.

The ultimate nostalgic dining experience! I had the chicken pie dinner which was tasty and full of comfort. The pie crust and gravy were excellent and the chicken was moist. Wonderful coleslaw too. The biscuits were perfect. You have to try this place if you are looking for a blast from the past and great food.

Open since 1956 and going strong. Food and atmosphere is very relaxing. Open kitchen is cool. Everything is made from scratch. Chicken pot pie is best I’ve had. Professional staff. I wish there one of these back home. Will be back.

As a little boy, I would beg my grandfather for a chicken pie on those weekend mornings we could spend together. We placed the same order every time. Me: a pie with gravy – extra gravy. Him: coffee. He would read me the paper sometimes, or show me the comic strip that bore our name. I think about him often when I visit. He had the same booth for years. Not his, really, but in that familiar sort of way. Like everything at the Chicken Pie Shop, for me, has that familiar sort of way about it. That Kellogg’s-looking rooster on the wall reminds me of a childhood filled with 1970’s kitsch. The tattered blinds and cracked linoleum floors piqué my curiosities about the unnumbered glances into and out of the pie shop or the volume of footsteps that traversed the travertine. Those metal pedestal tables and scuffed chrome accents serve as remnants of a liminal time between old and new, between America’s «diner» past and«dining» future. The building is a symbolic anachronsim, as indicative as any local landmark, reflecting a city that cannot decide whether to stay in the past or join the present while inviting the diner to conceptualize time, history, and cultural/traditional priorities. —– —– —– —– —– —– But the food… The pie… Never called a pot pie for pot means potato. No vegetables either, for that would just take away from the simplicity of the dish. I have never eaten anything on the menu but the chicken pie, unless you count extra gravy. Lately the pie has been hit or miss, but mostly consistent. The lead cook needs to measure accurately so the salt and pepper levels in the gravy don’t fluctuate. Otherwise, the chicken quality has stayed high and the crust is divine for my tastes – not light and flaky but dense and doughy, with the perfect butter-top crisp. Fix the seasoning levels and I will be happy. I keep coming back, partly to sit at my grandpa’s old table, but mostly for the pie. Don’t expect magic. Don’t expect fine dining. Don’t expect an aesthetic experience. And if the Tower district, as a whole, seems dirty to you, order to go. But do yourself a favor and place an order.

The chicken pie tasted just ok but there can be room for improvement that would draw me back. This pie was not the best chicken pie I tasted so far, yet I would definitely recommend anyone in the tower district to try this place and give it a go, because they are so much more than just chicken pies. The only improvement I would recommend is that the pie crust to taste a little better maybe more buttery and tasty, because currently it is just too flat and boring Also, the filling for the pie itself is a little lacking. The chicken pie should contain lots of leaks, celery, carrots and peas, which would enhance it flavors and give it more character. Service was great, but the ambience could be further improved to make this place feel more homey and less like a warehouse.
