The service here is always terrific, with prompt seating and very attentive staff. A favorite lunch stop for me and my friends. The portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable. The addition of the Cantina was overdue and welcome. You can finally get a margarita with lunch or dinner.

We have been eating there for over ten years. The food was okay; not the greatest but okay and predictable. But! Yesterday it was terrible we ordered the Lupe salad, it was a waste of money. The Lupe salad was dry no dressing of any sort it had thick slices of onion and green bell pepper a little bit of tomato a lot of iceberg lettuce and boiled hamburger meat that made the taco shell mushy. The people behind me weren’t too happy either with their order. It looked like cat barf on a borito, they sent it back. The ice tea was brown water and flavorless all and all this was a turn off for me so I’ll never be going back. Taco Bell has a better Taco Salad for less than the Lupe salad at Javier’s. This place SUCKSBIGTIME. and a BIGMINUS5STARS…

We have been going to Javier’s for over six years on and off. It is close to where we live and usually okay for Mexican food but certainly not the best in Fresno. Tonight I ordered a chimichanga and a side salad. First they put the side salad on the same hot plate as the chimichanga, it was so hot I could not touch the plate. The salad consisted of shredded iceberg lettuce, a few chopped tomatoes and a ring of onion. It was more like a garnish rather than a salad, and who wants a hot salad. I was charged $ 2.50 for this so called«salad». I will not be going back. The service was not very good either. Save your money and go to one of the better Mexican food restaurants in Fresno. There are plenty to choose from.

I like the new look of the restaurant especially with the new Cantina. Food is so so and the salsa is different every time. I like more kick to my salsa!

Big restaurant and it shouldn’t be service is always slow. Refills are slim to non. But you can bring in a party and eat for cheap. Food is bland lacks taste and presentation is bad. Can almost always get a table without a wait. Probably a great place if you have kids that don’t care for the actual taste of food and you need a place to eat.

I’ve eaten at Javier’s since it first opened across the street. The service is outstanding, mature staff are serious about pleasing the customers, not a bunch of disrespectful kids. The food is ready promptly and their coffee and raspberry tea are excellent. I especially enjoy the tacos, always stuffed full and just right crispness. I have never liked enchiladas, they serve an ok version and I will eat them, but seem dry and unappetizing, I love their chile rellenos. The salsa is a nice medium spice level(the gringo version) which is just right for me. People who like the really hot stuff might be disappointed. I agree Castillo’s has better seasoning, but it’s difficult to find parking, they’re always crowded and I sometimes come away feeling hungry. I appreciate that Javier’s food is consistently good and atmosphere is relaxed. Lynn B.

My first time here was about 10 years ago, and I was very put off by the food… so much, that it took years for me to make it back. I decided, recently to give this place another try, and I am glad that I did. The food has much improved and has been rather consistent, now. This most recent visit, I ordered cheese enchiladas with beans and rice, and my counterpart ordered some fajitas. Such a wonderful sound to hear when the sizzling food comes your way, and knowing that you will be the one to enjoy it. My plate was scrumptious. I am very picky when it comes to my enchilada sauce, and Javier’s sauce was delicious. The rice was fluffy and the beans were seasoned well and not dry. The service was swell. We were seated right away, and our drinks were hastily refilled. The ambiance is a family environment. I especially enjoyed the music they play, such as the Mexican version of «Achy breaky heart». I am happy to say that Javier’s is nice place to eat, and I am glad that it is in close proximity to me.

This place has been around for years mainly drawing a large lunch crowd being close to the IRS on Butler ave. They have improved and expanded their menu in the last year and are always busy through dinner because it is good, consistent and inexpensive. They will soon be opening up a full cocktail bar expanding the facilities. Sad thing, they are closed on Sundays.

Food was ok. Not bad but not amazing. The service was average nohing out of the usual. The fajitas lacked seasoning. The chicken was moist and the meat was good. The michelada needed lemon and maybe a bit more clamato. The ambience was ok. Its funny how in a mexican restaurant we were ine of the few mexican in there. Makes me quesion its authentisity. Overall not very impressed. Probably wont give it another chance.

One of my all time favorites. This was my families favorite when I was growing up. I have been going for about 30 years. Since it was in the old building. It is not super authentic but is always good. Their salsa is so good and I love their nachos. I have known all of the servers since I was young and they are all very nice. Jenny is our favorite. She even bought my daughter a little Halloween gift one year. After my grandparents passed away we stopped going there because I stopped going to that side of town. My husband and I went recently and it was like coming home.

I love that this is a family restaurant AND closed on Sundays. Sunday traditionally is a day of rest and reflection, time to spend with your family and friends. Originally this was based on the fact that God rested on the seventh day after creating the Earth. So naturally a Catholic family will observe this. Gotta go, my fajita burrito is here! Saludos!

Not the type of Mexican food I like, seems like everything was frozen or out of a can. I don’t know, how it’s still open with the food they serve.

You must try the Monday night Senior Special here! Two for the price of one, and it includes your soft brink with a refill, and your first basket of chips and salsa!!! Choose among: chile relleno, taco, bean burrito, Tamal, or tostada. Service is both fast and friendly. And they can accommodate decent sized groups. Our total bill for 2 dinners and drinks: $ 6.22 plus tip!

I grew up on the eastside of Fresno and i remember frequenting Javiers. Over the Years the quality of the food has gone down while the prices have steadily increased. However it is not as bad as some people make it seem. First off Javiers does have some authentic Mexican dishes like a previous reviewer mentioned they sell stuff like nopales. However some of their dishes like their tacos are americanized so I guess the authenticity differs from dish to dish. Taste wise the food at Javier’s has been pretty solid. It’s not the best but definitely not the worst that I have had. As I stated before the quality of the food has gone down over the years. If i were writing this review 2 – 3 years ago it would definitely be 4 – 5 stars. Every time I have been to Javier’s I have gotten good service so no complaints here. They greet me with smiles, double check my orders to make sure their accurate and are courteous. I’d say Javier’s is one of those restaurants you have to try out for yourself. I would personally suggest their pollo tacos. No their are not the most authentic but they are good. I also like their rice so think about trying that too.

First of all, my wife loves this place. If it was her choice it was be a five star rating. But it’s not her choice, this is my review. ;) The location of this restaurant is convenient. Just a mile or so from the fowler/180 exit. Easy to get to from anywhere in, Fresno. The restaurant is fairly clean and well laid out. The service is usually fast and friendly. Now that we got that out of the way. We can talk about the important topic, the food. The food, is very, very reasonably priced and extremely consistent. It always taste the same. I credit restaurants that can achieve this. But… Consistently the food is fair at best. Bland flavors isn’t what I expect from Mexican food. But it’s all I get here. With the plethora of other GREAT Mexican restaurants we have in Fresno, I can’t recommend, Javier’s. But after being married to my wife for 20 years, this won’t be my last time dining here. :/
