Loved this place! Hands down the best food, drinks, service, atmosphere!!! Very classy and kick back. Highly recommend! I can see why everyone I speak to about this place gives high review of it!

A classic ambience with low lighting and friendly attentive staff. Good prices with healthy servings. We got the dinner for two, New York and Salmon. Steak was seasoned well and juicy. We also ordered a cheesecake to top it off. Definitely a keeper!

We recently went to Richards for dinner. My husband and a few friends had never been there so we decided to go check it out. Let me start out by saying I haven’t been there in probably over 15 years. So here we go, let’s start with the service it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t 5 stars either. The food in my opinion was not the way I remembered it. I had talked it up so much to my friends from my previous experience years ago. When our salad arrived it wasn’t as fresh as it could have been it didn’t taste bad but just not how I would have served it. Then we went on to our main course my steak was good but not as tender as I thought it should be. So in my opinion I would really like to give this place another chance to improve my review as I hate giving 3 stars to such a Fresno staple!

This was our first time here and sadly probably our last. We came for a birthday party and while the service was five stars, the food was two stars. The«garlic bread» was just sour dough sliced bread it seemed like with some type of imitation butter on top. I wish it tasted as good as it smelled. The salad and soup(clam chowder) were fine, nothing spectacular but nothing horrible either. The shrimp cocktail was fine, once again nothing amazing. The main course on the other hand was just terrible. We did the dinner for two and so we tried their prime rib and their New York strip. The prime rib came over overcooked– it was supposed to be medium rare and come out medium well. They sent out another one which was medium rare but tasted rancid. What was really upsetting was that they sent back my exact same Potato that when back with my prince rib, so I had a cold potato, instead of giving me a fresh one. The New York strip was so tough you couldn’t even cut through it and was supposed to be medium and came out rare. We both ended up leaving hungry. It’s too bad that the food couldn’t have been as good as the service.

This places prime rib is unbelievable. My boyfriend and i go here at least once s month. It can be a little pricey but totally worth it. I just wish it was in a better part of town. Green beans here will change your life.

Place was easy to find. The décor is classy and loved the female nude paintings in the lounge area. Clean and fast service. The food was really good. Steaks are succulent and cooked to perfection. Green beans are to die for. The baked potato was just the right size. I didnt like the fresh zucchini because it had a soapy aftertaste. The Crème Brulee was served in a large cup with a generous crust on top. Yummmmm! I will be back when I am not designated driver. They had some delicious looking mixed drinks!

First time coming here and a scale 1 – 10 I rate it an 8. The dinner for two is a great price selection. The shrimp cocktail was over tartered, it was pretty gross. The calm chowder was really good and I never liked that type of soup. What made the 8 list was their steak and prime rib!!! The meat was so delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I’d reccomend they update the exterior of their business, from the outside it looks like a hole in the wall and we were debating to come. We will definitely return.

This is one of the old Fresno digs that unless you are a native you would not know… Steaks are great food us uniquely it’s own! Frog legs when they have them are wonderful. This is a must hit old tavern in a marginal area!

One of my favorite dive bars. Great food. The best appetizers I’ve ever had. What I dislike is their lack of security in the rear, I got back to my car parked just 20 feet from the door and my window was smashed in and nothing was stolen, but my window needs replacing.

Great mid west supper club atmosphere! Dick the bartender pours drinks with a meaning! If you enjoy garlic this place will please you. They serve a cheese garlic bread app with your meal. Their steaks are pan seared in a garlic butter that was very yummy.

My favorite steakhouse in Fresno. Old school and done the way it should be. Nothing too stuffy, just good and service, the way it used to be. Don’t let the location fool you, in fact I appreciate that they have remained in the same building since 1969 and never fell in to the«lets go north» attitude. Original owner’s grandson runs the place now and does an excellent job of carrying on the tradition. Keep up the great work and be back soon.

Let me kind of give a little background info on why I came, last night. I mean, I think I’ve been here before a long time ago, but hey… your opinion of food is much less critical when you’re not paying for it, right? A friend of my late father invited me out to his birthday dinner they were having there. My father loved cars, and has had jobs in every facet of the industry I can think of short of stunt driving for a «Fast and Furious» movie — things like racing to owning his own shops. So there was quite a wide range of people there, mostly a lot of his former friends filling up that banquet room at Richard’s from respectable business types to a very widely known Hell’s Angel and his prospect son. From stories I heard that night from his friends, it just basically cemented what I had already known about my father. Dude was a fucking sorcerer. He was not a particularly good-looking man, yet he had a charismatic presence that made even complete strangers seemingly love the guy. Anyway, they told me more wild stories about him, and good memories I could only give a half smile and nod my head to, as my father didn’t share any of this same passion with his family. Anyway, back to the business at hand. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was completely barren aside from our(rather large) party, which as I mentioned was in the banquet room out of necessity. I wondered if the guy organizing our party called ahead and had the restaurant reserved specially for us, or if there was legitimately no other patrons coming on a Tuesday night for dinner, which would be pretty depressing for the business. My favorite thing about the restaurant, I’ll say right now, is the bar. Let’s just say you’ll get a true rum and coke and not a «coke and rum» as you will at any chain, and they don’t gouge you on drink prices– $ 5 for well drinks is very fair. They don’t forget the small details(the lime, in this case) either. Before your meal, they serve a small serving of shrimp cocktail with cocktail sauce. Usually, I can’t stand cocktail sauce– but the sauce here is very good. A lot more of that horseradish taste to it rather than a glorified ketchup like you get at most places. They also bring out fresh garlic bread with your meal, and I must emphasize FRESH, because they’ll come by and take that damn basket of garlic bread as if it’s poison after sitting for 20 minutes and refill it with MORE before you’re even halfway done with it. Kinda wasteful in my opinion, but I’m sure many would appreciate this. I ordered the 12 oz bacon-wrapped filet mignon, with a baked potato, green beans and salad. Green beans were pretty standard(cooked with tomatoes,) as was the salad. I really like how they don’t mess around with the baked potato– they bring out three little bowls with your potato, filled with sour cream, chives, and crumbled bacon so you can add as much as you want. Nothing worse than when all your toppings are gone within the first two bites and you’re left with a dry potato, am I right? Onto the main course itself… Well, I like my meat cooked extremely rare, and that was probably my mistake in ordering as such with a large group. My steak was probably done first, and likely sat until the entire rest of the group’s orders were done because it was barely lukewarm and not gushing with juices(just how I like it) by the time it hit my table. Definitely not among the best steaks I’ve had, and my lone disappointment with this restaurant(albeit a crucial one, it being the main course and everything.) As I mentioned earlier, it’s easy to love just about any food when you’re not flipping the bill. I didn’t realize the menu pictures uploaded on Unilocal were so outdated and wish I had taken new pictures to reflect their changes in price, now. My filet was somewhere in the mid to high 40’s, just under $ 50 I want to say. That said, I only ended up paying for my drinks I went to the bar to get(though I ordered and dined with the expectations that I was on my own) and I would have felt a bit disappointed had I dropped $ 60 that night, so my review reflects that. Overall, I’d be open to coming again if circumstances dictated it. The Hell’s Angel ordered a rack of lamb that I immediately wanted to trade my steak in for when I saw it. Matt P. and Greatest E. both highly recommended the oysters, so that’s a must try for me as well if/when I return.

Like going back to the 60s… in a good way. :) we did not have the«dim light“experience. But it was a trip back in time… good martini, wine was half off/bottle ’cause it was Wednesday(!!!), prime rib was great. Little shrimp cocktail for starter was fun. Not elegant or fussy, but good food, nice staff, reasonable prices. And it’s not in the North. :) Give this place a try if you’re a carnivore.

Warm, friendly and probably the best family owned steak house around. I hadn’t been here for a while and am happy to say it’s every bit as good as it ever has been. The staff is happy and eager to help with anything you need always there to accommodate you no matter how busy they are. Once you come I guarantee you will return Best prime rib in town bar none.

After several unsuccessful attempts to find anything open after 8PM on a Sunday night in Fresno other than fast food, luckily we found Richards. We had the deluxe dinner for two, Prime Rib and NY Strip, shrimp cocktail, soup(clam chowder) and salad, on with baked potatoes and green beans and 2 glasses of wine for $ 59.95. For the amount of food and drink we were served it was an awesome deal.

Time to get ur eye check people. If u plan on eating here, I hope u can see well in the dark. Literally dark not dim. I say this because as soon as I open the door to enter, I was already concern about where I’m gonna go. My eyes took a few seconds to adjust and when it did, I was confused whether I’m suppose to seat myself or wait for a hostess… Such a relief to have an older lady greet us after a couple of confused minute. She sat us at a table and I noticed pretzel sticks on the table next to the salt and pepper, ‘huh’? Well I guess it’s suppose to be complimentary. Myself and the better half ordered alcoholic drinks for consumption. Me beer and her Mai Tai I believe, anyways, it wasn’t worth noting. The appetizer was grilled oyster which was recommended by Matt P. And his lady was awesome. The main course prime rib and ribeye steak. The prime rib is melt in ur mouth tender, probably can cut it with just the fork. Flavor was good but can be better. Ribeye steak was well seasoned and cook nicely as ordered. The sides are pretty much forgettable-average. U can expect ur bill to be about $ 50 per person, tip included. Which to me is on the high side, being where the location is and the menu offering… But their specialty dishes are worth a return trip…

Always great food when we come here and the staff is always wonderful and last night was no exception. We came for my early birthday dinner date around 7pm. It wasn’t too busy and we had a new waitress who was great. My husband had the New York and I had prime rib. The chicken noodle soup was wonderful and I am so glad that zucchini is now an option! However I have to give the staff major props for how they handled a group of obnoxious horrible loud drunks at the bar. I was appalled at how these older adults were acting. We’ve all had a bit too much to drink but haven’t acted like these people. Maybe I was just hangry but the staff did a much better job than I would have. It took everything in me not to say anything. So great job staff! We will always come back for the food and great service

Here’s the thing about this place. It’s not in the best part of town nor does the outside look appeal. Actually the inside is awkward too(as you walk in) but the food is very good. So did I only give it four stars? Speed of service. Today’s lunch serve was very slow. We were there for over an hour waiting to be served. Thats why the stars weren’t higher. The server was hustling but she was short handed. I appreciated that and that’s why the stars are not lower. I ordered the Patty Melt and it was exceptional. It comes in a marble sourdough or rye with red onions and Swiss cheese. I always add mustard because I think that is the quintessential patty melt. The fries were warm and crispy(as you should expect them to be). this wasn’t my first nor last time going. I would definitely return. Happy eating!

I was driving back from L.A. after a couple days of Disneyland and California Adventure mayhem. This was my ¾ pit stop and first visit to Fresno. First impression was«where the fuck is this place» and once I found a door in a really boring yellow brown wall and opened, my second impression was«is this the exit?» quickly followed by «I can’t see shit.» Absent were the normal«wait here» and«welcome» signs, and there wasn’t a patron or server in sight. As the first minutes passed, doubt began to fill my mind… had I just broken into a closed restaurant on accident? I peered around a corner…“hello?“ Wtf. Nothing. My hunger eagerly propelled me forward. I strode into the room to my right, still blinking, one hand outstretched as a precaution against obstacles. I stopped five seconds later in the middle of two rows of tables lining each wall as a shadowy figure appeared at the far end of the room. «Hi…» I ventured a greeting. Iceee Cooolldd Bitttcch. Nothing. Undaunted… I was going to get food… I continued. She stood there, guarding the far end of the room in a small walkway connecting to another dining area. I approached as she finally acknowledged my presence, «Can I help you?» … After a very awkward exchange, I seated myself, ordered ½ doz oysters as an appetizer and the Snapper for the main course which came with soup or salad, a shrimp cocktail and two sides. I ordered the clam chowder as well as the pilaf and zucchini. The clam chowder was o.k., the zucchini was actually yellow squash and zucchini and I saved the rice pilaf for last and didn’t even make it past the first bite. Had I not been so hungry, something happened every five-ten minutes that would’ve made anyone leave during my 1.5! hour stay. It took 20 minutes for my oysters, and an hour and ten minutes for my food. I walked in through the door at 4pm, left at 5:36pm. Felt like a lifetime. The waitresses were both loud and obnoxious. I watched another couple come in later and have the same…“was that really an entrance and where is the service. oh there you, ouch cold shoulder” experience I had as well. The only thing this meal was good for, was inspiration for a couple characters in some future film or book I write. No joke, imagine a Bitchy Misogynist Gandalf and a self depreciating, passive aggressive Sally Field .and you have the third couple that was at the table in front if me for the last thirty minutes. Ohh and get this, my loverly waitress ran my 36.69 tab for 336.69…burning even more of my precious life minutes while her manager fixed the receipt. My Catholic high school teachers were right… there is a hell, and it’s in Fresno. …ps, the fish was rubbbbbery. And the bread was cold and not refilled… and the shrimp cocktail was a disgrace.
