Strummer’s has brought a decent number of live shows worth seeing so that alone gets 5 stars. Any venue that promotes live music in Fresno is a plus! Thank you! Please, bring in more hip hop shows for the heads like me! The venue itself could be a little bigger. It would be nice if it was 21 and over too so you wouldn’t be forced to be caged in near the bar if you want to drink while watching some of the bigger live shows. But I get it, sometimes the 18+ crowd needs some love too. That being said, I still love the place. Great location, right next to stones and it even has a second, separate room from the stage with another bar(that maybe serves food?) Pretty cool venue all in all

I’ve been to a lot of live music venues in Fresno, and Strummers has the best sound system. The venue itself is a little small. It has booths up against the right wall, and on the left there’s a small bar with tables. It can get very crowded if there’s a lot of people attending a show. Perhaps the best thing about Strummers is the fact they BLAST their AC. I’m talking completely packed show shoulder to shoulder with crazy drunk moshing and dancing going on… and it’s STILL cool in the building. Best thing ever. There’s a lot of venues in Fresno that either hardly run the AC or don’t have it at all! The band’s Strummers usually get are punk/alt/metal. Recently they had Adolescents, and The Ataris — to name two bigger bands some people on here might actually know — and later this year they’re getting Subhumans, Norma Jean, and Joyce Maynor. AWESOME! On Tuesday they have open Mic and karaōke with specials on their food. I think $ 1 taquitos and $ 2 tacos. I personally have not tried the restaurant side of Strummers yet, will update my review when I do. On other off nights like Monday, and Wednesday, sometimes they’ll have very cheap($ 5) or free shows. The shows start anywhere from 7pm — 9pm and end around 1am — 2am. Some shows are all ages and some shows are 21+ and require ID. The area isn’t that bad. It’s right in the tower district by some neighborhoods. I’ve never had any issues walking to my car at 2am. There’s usually parking in front of Strummers, but if it’s a busy night you may have to park around the corner. Parking is free.

I came here on a Tuesday night in September of 2014 for karaōke. Mikey the bartender made me a couple of really strong sailor jerry and cokes so I had a pretty good buzz going. Someone was butchering bohemian rhapsody inside so I came outside to join my friend for a smoke. Up walked a friend of a friend that he knew. This guy just walked up…(He was Drunk from Audie’s) and started talking to my friend James. I cut in… being that I was pretty drunk and complimented him on his shirt. My exact words were«I don’t know what your shirt means… but I like it!»…he then very snobbily replied that… his shirt had Carl Saigon… only the leading physicist of the 20th century… We spent the rest of the night making eyes at eachother… He friended me on Facebook… we made out in the parking lot across the street from strummers multiple times in the next few months. He asked me to be his girlfriend… I fell for him… I broke every rule I ever set for myself and found the love of my life in a bar lol! I guess what I’m trying to say is… strummers will FOREVER hold a special place in my heart because it’s where I met the person who saved me and who loves me for all that I am. I am forever loyal to strummers. The bartenders are incredible. The shows are amazing. The bar serves sailor jerry.

Always a great place to watch security toss belligerent souls out the front door! For its size, still a very fun venue. I see people complaining about security but they have no idea what these guys have to deal with. People vomiting on tables/floors, drunk people causing problems with other customers, drunk people throwing punches at security. Sure they are intimidating but that’s cause they have to be. I’ve actually taken the time to talk to some of them during shows and they are pretty sweet guys. Drinks are cheap and are great to maintain a buzz. Other than that, I never had an issue with anything others are fussing about.

Worst bartender ever. I asked another employee and he said her name was serta. Heavy girl, black hair, pretty plain features, rude as hell, here’s the story. I’ve never had a bartender actually steal from me before. We waited for her to finish her personal conversation with the guys at the other end of the bar for at least 20 minutes before she came over and asked very rudely«what do you want?» No greeting just right down to business. We ordered our drinks and gave her the cash. The drinks were 14 I gave her 15. She never came back. I would have been happy to give her more than a dollar tip if she’d been a good bartender. However she never even gave me the opportunity as she stole my change and I’m sure pocketed it. I get that she thinks it was the tip but it’s the principle that matters. She stole from me. I would love to never visit this bar again.

Due to my age, I would not go there again unless it was for another concert. Aside from that, the place was just ok. Old; no class. I guess I’m just beyond the crazy partying years. The bartenders were the best part of that scene. They were very attentive every time I walked up to the bar. They probably felt sorry for the straight-laced older woman, LOL, although I am a rocker! Saw Peter Murphy. Worse concert ever. Loved him in the 90’s, but now he’s just an old man, with a young band, playing Gothe music and doing Meth. He had the crowd chanting«Cuts you up» and didn’t even do the tune after two encores. Loser in my mind.

Ok. so nobody must love the bald, bleached Scott Steiner goatee, jackhole who works security there. If the did love him they’d let him in on the secret that everyone in the world is laughing at him and thinks he’s a tool. My wife went to the car and back and he meets her at the back door and says«you can’t go out this way» which is funny because she already did it. What he meant was you shouldn’t have come out this way and the went and looked into why one of the other security let her out the back. The issue is you have half of your security acting one way and the other half a completely different way. Seen several shows here and each time the experience gets worse and worse. Too many kids. Security taking themselves too seriously and management ok with security doing it’s best to alienate paying customers. Less consideration to the kids and more to the grown adults with folding money in there pockets. And who ushers a crowd out of a show as soon as the band leaves? Concert goers want encores and won’t get em if security is pushing people out the door.

I’m 21 and I went to a show recently. I was in line waiting to go inside while the security guards were asking others if they were 21. Everyone in front of me(who by the way were younger people) said yes and they were given a wristband and were simply let inside without them being asked for an id. BUT when I got to the door, the security guards asked if I was over 21 and I said yes, but they actually decided to ask for my id. Their only comment was«We just need to verify.» Why didn’t the verify with everyone else as well? What happened to not judging people by their looks? They should have asked EVERYONE for an id. Not to mention, they give you the most intimidating looks. As for the sound, it was decent and you are able to feel close to the stage from any spot inside. Sadly, I do not plan on going back unless there is a good band/artist I want to see.

I’ve been coming here since it was Starline Grill, the current bartenders know how to make a good drink and offer good service for the most part. It’s usually busy as the crowd comes and goes.

This place is hit and miss. Some days the sound and atmosphere will be on pointt no complaints. Other less unfortunate nights. The sound levels will be pushed to high distorting the quality of the music. Bartender are hit and miss as well. The girl is quick and snapy, strong drinks. The dude is a TOOL wouldn’t even serve me water even though I was the DD. Asked him repeatedly and he acted as if was speaking another language. He finaly said I could buy some water or go to the bar in the other room. I know it’s not state law to serve water but come on. when I ask for water I usually leave a tip knowing it’s a hastle. But it’s also your job. So all in all depending on the night, genre of music, and bartender. This place could be TITS or just another shit hole.

I came for the NAPALMDEATH /VOIVOD show. First time in Fresno. Review for the venue: The sound is awesome for the small space that it is. it was cool how they had the drink area closed off so that nobody in the pit would be able to knock your drink over. It was lame, however, how they had announced that«no rough-housing was allowed». That takes all the fun out of being at a metal show. Review for the grill: the guy guarding the grill side’s door seemed annoyed to answer my questions. I only asked him two things and he got up from his chair and was pretty rude in giving me answers. Since he was the first person we came into contact with in terms of experiencing this venue for the first time, he gave me a bad feeling about the whole place. Our waitress was super nice. Got our order wrong, but still managed to get us what we ordered afterwards. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend and the bartender took a while to get to us. I’d say an extra 2 – 3 minutes than I expected, seeing as the bar wasn’t packed. There was plenty of elbow room, that’s for sure. I’ve experienced better. However, since Fresno seems pretty boring, I guess this place is as good as it gets.

This is starline… at least I still call it that. The bar side/grill side whatever you call it now is cleaner though, at least cleaner than what I remembered starline grill to be like. The staff is nice and the drink prices are par on tower bar prices. IT can get loud when there is an event next door but that is expected. Casual spot to grab a casual drink can’t complain.

I like the bartenders. Mikey is cool! I also like the old cool atmosphere. And of-course plus points for that Clash poster and an overall grungy feel. However I am giving 3 stars because of the rude bouncer. A business creates its image by managing its touching points. And for a bar, the bouncer is the touching point. But the big, ponytail bouncer has been rude to me, consistently. I don’t see how can any self-repeating human being who is not a teenager, bear to deal with this person. He never greets you, and is usually acts as if he is doing you a favor by checking your ID. One day I made a joke on the lines of «hey I come here all the time,» when he asked for my ID. His exact words were«I don’t give a shit if you come here or not.» Cool! I’ll take my business elsewhere until you learn some manners and common human decency

Strummer’s is my go-to bar recently. It’s conveniently located, drinks are reasonable priced, bar staff is attentive and friendly. I haven’t experienced any of the issues some other guests cite about it being warm and dirty, or divey. The food is all vegan, but it’s really good. Try the nachos for a soft intro to vegan cuisine. As someone who has worked in bars, I find their bar very well kept. Clean, organized, pleasing to look at. It’s a quiet bar on a weeknight, and busier when there are shows. My ONLY complaint is that it can get a bit loud in the restaurant when bands are doing sound checks over the PA from the concert venue next door. I recommend, and take my friends there when we want to walk to get a drink.

Ehh, this spot is alright. I gave Strummer’s 3 stars instead of 2 because they have some neat film screenings and musical happenings that occur here. It’s a pretty divey looking bar and not so clean. Service is okay. I haven’t eaten the food, so unfortunately I can’t comment on that. I wouldn’t care to sit and drink or eat inside. The patio is a much better atmosphere. It’s a cool venue if a special event or something is going on, but I would choose another bar for a regular night of hanging out.

This review is for the restuarant. I went to see a show and walked over to order food from their vegan restaurant. I ordered three tacos and a tamale. The girl was nice who took my order but I guess only because she helped herself to $ 5 extra that I was charged. my order was suppose to be 9 and some change but she charged me 15 and some change. Didn’t want to go back because my show I went to see was starting.

I’ve eaten here a few times recently and gotten drinks several times. I’m glad they finally got the menu squared away… there were rumors for over a year that Strummers would have delicious Mexican Vegetarian and it has finally happened. I’m not vegetarian, let alone vegan, so I do miss the cheese somewhat but I like knowing I’m enjoying a healthy and tasty meal and they are definitely making unique offerings. It’s a convenient place to get food later in the evening too. I have enjoyed the banana leaf tamale twice now as well as the beans and rice. all good stuff! I want to take lessons from their chef! There are some great drink prices but overall the bar part is similar to Starline Grill; a few beers on tap, lots in the bottle. All in all this is most likely my new haunt for a place to meet up with friends, and we’ll stay long enough for someone to get hungry.

Went in on a Tuesday night about 7. Service was terrible even though there was 5 people. Looks like the bartender was by herself… But she also looks like she was taking to her friend. No one greats you when you walk in. The first table we grabbed was dirty. We then grabbed a second table. We were given paper menus that were disgusting. Very gross. The place was warm and gross. Very unpleasant

I used to haunt this place many a late night, back when it was the Starline Grill. Probably my favorite hole in the wall in town. My life changed and I was not able to burn the midnight oil there as much as i used to, but I found myself driving by about a week ago and I noticed the big sign advertising their new vegan Mexican food. I’m vegetarian, so you couldn’t paint a bigger welcome sign. :) The bar is just as varied as I remember it, and they have a large selection of beers. I ordered an 805, and the if the bottle was any colder, it’d be frozen. A definitely good thing. :) The food? Amazing. There are at least half a dozen choices, all vegan and all freshly prepared. I liked my lunch so much that I ordered half a dozen taquitos for later. I didn’t get to them for a couple of days, but a short visit to the oven made them good as new, and they were amazing. Even my carnivorous fiancé stole one from me. :) The only reason I’m docking a star is due to an issue that’s been around even when it was The Grill, and one that may not be avoidable — the noise level. On nights when Starline(next door) is hoppin’, the bass pounds the whole place, making conversation difficult. I’d love to know when Starline will be empty, so I enjoy my cool little vegan joint /dive-bar-in-a-good-way in peace. :)
