Sugar Shack

Seriously disappointed. I used to go to Sugar Shack, when they first opened the bakery. My daughter, and her boyfriend went there often. Between all of us, we tried several varieties of their jumbo cupcakes. They were very good. I remember being fond of the Reese’s, peanut butter and jelly, and a lemon cupcake. There’s probably a few more, that I wouldn’t turn down. The last two times I’ve went, I noticed the jumbo cakes are no longer offered. They’ve reduced the jumbo to a standard sized cupcake. Another downgrade is the quality of the cake. It tastes like a mix; preservatives and all. The frosting is just okay. I would like to know what happened to this bakery. Are they trying to reduce costs? Was there an ownership change? Maybe they will respond to this review. As much as I hate to post a bad review, I just can’t see supporting this bakery.

I got 6 cupcakes; lemon, cookies n cream, the chocolate caramel one, red velvet, pumpkin, and vanila. The lemon one I was most excited about and it was a let down. It was super tart, so sour my mouth puckered. Would not get it again. The red velvet tasted more like vanilla to me. Everything else was ok-​good. Pumpkin and cookies and cream were the best. All the cupcakes were moist and frosting were made well.

Tragic. I tried three different cupcakes, ALL basic. Why do they taste like these are straight from the box? Mess. Prices were a bit high for what you get, just go to Vons and you’ll receive a better tasting product. What I did like was the nice staff, and nice environment.

I’ve had amazing experiences every time I come in. The girl behind the counter… I believe her name is Aryn… Was beyond helpful and gave me all kinds of options.
My cupcakes I have tried are red velvet, Reese’s, and Oreo birthday cake. Really amazing cakes let me tell you… but wow That Aryn really made a great impression on me as well!

1^st time I went, I attempted to use a Groupon to get a dozen cupcakes as a thank you to my coworkers. I get there an hour before they close and they have 3 cupcakes left. I buy them anyway, because I promised everyone cupcakes. The one person who ate the cupcake said it was dry and not very good. The other 2 were pawned off to customers. I went back because I had already paid for the Groupon and got my dozen cupcakes several hours before they closed and the cupcakes were still dry! The frosting is very good though. I really liked the cookie cupcake.

Very cute inside and the cupcakes and ice cream were both good. I do plan to come again! No complaints :)

Love the cupcakes, minis are adorably good and moist, staff is always accomodative to changes to orders.

Don’t bother! If you look @ the menu online they say they have tons of flavors, when you get there (expecting to have a lot to choose from) it’s quite a disappointment! The girl working there seemed to not care that we were there.
Both girls threw away theirs after 2 or 3 bites saying they didn’t taste good. I had one bite of mine & then it fell on the ground. It didn’t taste like anything special! In fact, I have made better from a box!
We will not be back! & will advise anyone who asks to avoid it.
$ 2.50 per cupcake is a bit steep.
Oh, online they also state they have mini cupcakes too… there was none in sight! There was some ice cream and stale looking cookies there too.

Not a fan. My husband and I tried eight cupcake flavors and we didn’t even want to finish any of them. Way too sweet and artificial tasting. Very disappointing.

Cupcakes are good and reasonably priced in comparison to other bakeries. However, I can in with my god daughter to get some frozen yogurt… I was informed that the frozen yogurt machines where no more and that they where selling conventional ice cream. I got a mini cupcake she got some ice cream… And it was HORRIBLE. It was a strange icy consistency that was more like a snow cone than ice cream.

yogurt flavors are the best during summer.
the girls that work the counter are always rude. but the owner is always nice and helpful.
i will always recommend my friends and family to come here.
I dont know how other people who have reviewed this place say the cupcakes are dry? maybe your taste buds are dry?

I’ve been here on 4 different occasions and the cupcakes are always delicious and made to order. The people at my gatherings are pleased with the taste.

Ordered a dozen mini from this place the other day. Salted caramel was pretty good definitely ‘salted’ lol. The chocolate was good and moist. Red velvet was just gross, it tastes like dough I couldn’t even finish the mini cupcake. Chocolate chip was ok. My husband tried the carrot cake and said it was good. The container that they put it in smashes the toppings so when you get home it doesn’t look as great if you were bringing it to a party or something. Overall not a bad place but nothing special to me.

On our first visit, my daughter and I — who were the only customers in the store — waited over five minutes while the young lady behind the counter talked to a potential catering client on the phone. It would have been nice if she I had put the client on hold for a few seconds, or multi-​tasked.
I had the large chocolate cupcake and my 8 year old daughter tried the red velvet. The chocolate was decent but not special enough to justify the $ 2.50 price. My daughter enjoyed the frosting on the red velvet, but when she bit into the cake she made a face and said it tasted like playdough. I tried it and she was right. It was dry and had a strange, artificial flavor. It was inedible.
I took it back to the counter and informed the young assistant, who merely commented that she would let the owner know. No offer of a refund or substitution.

First and foremost Sugar shack had amazing customer service. The girl at the register was super nice and friendly. Although she did not have the answers to all my questions she answered to the best of her ability and then pointed us in the right direction for the things she didn’t know.
The customer service at Sugar Shack in combination with the quality of their sweets definitely took them to 5 stars. Their cupcakes are really light and moist which is a good thing. Their frosting wasn’t overly sweet but sweet enough. I also like the fact that the cupcake was not slathered in frosting so you could still taste the cake itself.
My only issue is when you use GPS to find the business you are taken to a vacant house which is weird but not Sugar Shack’s fault at all. Just know that it’s located in shopping center near Sommerville and Champlain. Trust me you will not want to pass this place up!

Pre ordered 2doz cupcakes for a bridal shower and they were a hit! Ordered 1 doz red velvet which were moist and not too sweet, just perfect. Another dozen of strawberry champagne which had a pink frosting and was so delicious! Would order from here again! loved them!!!

Taking a leap of faith, I decided to order 5 dozen mini cupcakes of the red velvet flavor and pink champagne flavor. Omg were they delicious! They were so cute, moist, and addictive! Great hit at my party. Their pricing was much cheaper than other bakeries. I’d highly recommend and cannot wait to try other flavors!

Fairly good cupcakes, not dry and the frosting is delish. The girl at the counter was super friendly and accommodating. Mini cupcakes are only .95 cents!
They also sell gelato, although I haven’t had the chance to try it yet.

Their cupcakes are so moist, I love the taste of strawberry and red velvet. However, their frosting is gross! I’ve been here only once and it may be my last time. I would not recommend this place to a friend.
