Came in with a party of 11 on a Sunday and we made a reservation way in advance. We ordered tempura and baked mussels for our appetizers and numerous rolls. We received our rolls but never received our baked mussels or tempura. Service was terrible! Practically ignored all day. When we walked in there were 5 families at most, the service should have been better. I ordered two simple rolls and received them 10 – 15 minutes after the rest of the party who ordered more special rolls. The spicy tuna chop chop salad was terrible the taste was not good compared to other sushi restaurants nearby. Just appalled by how bad the service was. It’s no wonder they had to charge for gratuity because otherwise they would not receive any tips. Maybe if the servers were better trained they would receive more tips smh!

If want to wait an hour and a half with a reservation, and 30 minutes to get a glass of water only to end up with hair in your salad… this is your place!

Waitress was a sweetheart-only bright spot in the evening. Arrived at 7pm for a birthday dinner with a group of 12. 7:30 comes-we go to the bar to get a drink. 8:00 comes-hostess tells us they’re bussing the table. 8:30 comes-we finally sit down. 9:00 comes-we get our water we ordered at 8:30. 9:15 comes-we get our«salad»(iceberg with mustard squirted on top) and I pull a long black hair out of it. The end.

We came here for just a sushi dinner, I mean the sushi was good but not amazing. One roll I had the eel tasted bad and that just killed it for me with the other rolls. The other ones were good but that eel tasted awful, we told the waitress to take it back, but we still got charged for it, its fine. The other sushi was average thats why i gave it 3 stars. Tappen yaki was full and a long wait.

I’ve been to literally been to over a dozen Teppanyaki places(both here and down south) and though this place isn’t the very best, it’s up there. The food is always good, the waits are short if there even is a wait, the service is consistently good, and they’re one of the cleanest places in town. I’ll continue to go back.

The food was delicious, however the portions did not match the outrageous prices. My children both left hungry(one ordered kids menu, other adult menu) and we had no leftovers to speak of, a first for our teppanyaki outings. The family we dined with also felt the same way and spent even more than we did. So yeah, my Birthday dinner was disappointing. Could have spent $ 165 and been stuffed at a whole lot of other fine establishments… Sorry we won’t be back.

This place is one of my favorite teppanyaki spots in Fresno. Great customer service. Very short wait every time I’ve been here. It is also a very clean and decorative environment.

This place is OK the prices are obviously high and the service at the Teppan-Yaki is all right you can always expect very delicious food coming from there. But I only like to get the meal served before 2 o’clock The special you can get either steak or chicken in it as a Bento box for much cheaper than you can get it at dinner. It’s like 14 compared to 18 dollars. This place really isn’t good for just a quick bite it’s a very high priced menu. Unfortunately when I came here yesterday the service was pretty bad at the Teppan-Yaki for some reason the waiter would just never come back to refill our drinks. Other than that the food is pretty good.

Went here to celebrate three different people’s birthdays in my family. We had a reservation for teppanyaki but we were not seated until about 15 minutes after our party arrived. Our table was seated at the same time as a few others and there was only one server. We ordered appetizers which still had not come when the food was beginning to be cooked, so we canceled them. Our server was not apologetic, instead pressuring us to take them. The cook was uninspiring and boring. Despite telling the server and cook about the birthdays, nothing was done. No ice cream– nothing. Ok food but poor service. Maybe the staff hate working there.

Have been here several times. Have had Tepanyaki and regular dinner as well. Everytime it is really good. Have not tried the Sushi. Good service, good environment and really good food. Only reason I would not rate a five star is because another Japanese restaurant close by has slightly better food.

Save yourself and go to Edo Ya down the street. Way smaller portions, soo much more expensive. $ 20 for what I paid was to much. Rice was so plain, tasted like I was in the kitchen cooking! Thumbs down!

My friend and I decided to come here for dinner and we decided to sit at the bar since it was relatively busy. We got seated right away. The service was awesome! The sushi chefs were really nice and tended to us right away and were very nice~ we got our orders pretty fast which was awesome as well! Parking was kinda hard to find since it was busy for dinner. But other than that it’s an awesome place to go to! I love their green tea Long Island(alcoholic drink)! It hits the spot~

Called a week ahead for a reservation for 19. Was told no problem. Would be seated in the back at 2 large tables. Upon seating we were split up in 3 tables. Thanks for screwing us! Don’t lie next time and don’t overbook for the sake of profit. Been here many times, won’t be back. Shame.

Haven’t been in Fresno for years came out here to teach a workshop on pitching and want to stop and get some food before heading back to the Bay Area. And I saw Takumi Japanese restaurant on Shaw Avenue. The food was good but it was not hot as i would have liked it. At lunch you get a lot of food for the price: teriyaki chicken bento box comes with of course teriyaki chicken, rice, sushi rolls, fried chicken, vegetable tempura and dumplings or you can call them pot stickers. I also truly enjoyed the customer service. Look at the picture to see all of the wonderful food.

Came here for lunch in between work. We can around 12:30 just in time for teppanyaki lunch, my all time favorite anywhere! So for an appetizer we ordered the baked green mussels, can’t really mess up on this dish it was good. Then we have the shrimp vegetables tempura 9 $ and received two pieces of shrimp and two pieces of vegetables(like where the heck is the rest) very I satisfied with that I was expecting atleast a variety of vegetables or atleast more then just two pieces. Now for teppen my husband ordered the filet and shrimp(it’s listed on the menu as New York steak and shrimp 19.99 $ substitute for filet add 4.99 $). I wanted a mixture of like chicken steak and shrimp like Sakura chy has on lunch special for 11.99 $ but my waitress told me no when I asked about specials that happy hour was 5 – 7 … So I just ordered the chicken. On our way out to pay the friendly bar tender smiled and told me have a great day and that if I enjoyed the special for teppen Monday-Friday I asked and she said it’s a chicken steak and shrimp special… Needless to say I got screwed out of a good deal!

This is only the 3rd time I’ve been here to eat since its opening. The food was ok but and the waitress(yer)was nice. However we were there during a non busy time. I noticed our roll sitting on the counter for way too long before she picked it up to bring it to our table… it was sitting on the counter for a good 5 Minutes. I noticed the manager staring at her employees working she also must have noticed the roll. She was probably worried about it because As we were leaving he manager made the effort to thank us.

Man, I hate having to give places 2 stars that look amazing from the décor and have awesome waitresses. So I stopped here on the way through from Sac to Bako for lunch on a Thursday. I had my 3 year old with me and he enjoys a good teppanyaki show. This place didn’t have a show. The only thing he did was the onion volcano, that’s it. Nothing else. He just stood there and cooked. No fun, no show. If I didn’t want a show why would I sit at a grill? I ordered a rainbow roll and the New York teppanyaki grilled. It came with the standard soup and salad, the soup was the most bland bowl I’ve ever had. It tasted like water with a hint, and I mean a hint of flavor. The salad was decent. The rainbow roll was pretty well made, I’m guessing their sushi chef has a lot more experience than my chef at the grill. Everything he cooked lacked flavor. It was probably the worst food I’ve had from a teppanyaki grill. The waitress was so awesome though, kept my drink refilled, kept the kid happy with utensils and toy chopsticks. I’d say this place is a good sushi joint, but that’s about it.

The best«Chirashi» bowl I have ever tasted in Fresno and to be honest I was bewildered, since the review was at 3 stars on Unilocal,so I was not expecting much from this place, my impression was pretty set to expecting mediocre food at high prices because that was the majority of the opinion on the review. You see, I have a love affair with chirashi and its very rare that I would say good things about any place and their chirashi, unless of course they deserve it, and Takumi in my opinion did a very good job at serving the best chirashi bowl in Fresno, even better than Kunisama. And really I was so surprised, for once trusting my instincts over Unilocal reviews worked, it was a brave move but it was a risk well taken. The interior of takumi is very elegant and purely decorated to replicate an almost authentic Japanese restaurant, for once I really felt like I was dining in a Japanese restaurant in Fresno. The exterior really looks like an authentic Japanese house with its thatched roof and clear resemblance to Japanese architecture. The largest complaint I have was the service, which felt like I was served by someone trained to work at a 2-star restaurant. I will elaborate further. The reason they have my serious blessing for chirashi($ 21 includes miso soup) is because the presentation was done with utter care, the sushi chef knew exactly what he was doing, the fish was thickly cut, the taste and smell of the fish was perfectly fresh. My chirashi bowl was like a beautiful piece of art, laid out with thick cuts of: 2 pieces of vibrant orange salmon, 2 pieces of fiercely red tuna, 2 pieces of butter fish, and 2 pieces of yellowtail carefully arranged tightly with a freshly made tomago. The bed of rice was also perfectly textured, soft yet firm, and was at room temperature, and had the perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness and sourness. The pieces of sashimi on my charashi was really heavenly to eat, every piece of fish that I carefully dipped into the soy sauce, gently placed on my tongue and slowly chewed felt as if it was melting on my tongue. I made sure to cleanse my palate with the ginger with every piece of fish I took, because I wanted to savor the taste of each piece of fish. The chirashi was really good, definitely worth the $ 21 price. The miso soup was not the best, but was decent tasting, definitely not one of those cheap soup they serve at the tepanyaki places. My sister ordered the Philly Roll which in my opinion was just ok, in my opinion if you come to a fine Japanese restaurant, rolls such as that should never be ordered, since those kind of rolls should be ordered at cheap sushi restaurants like I love sushi, instead sashimi, chirashi and real nigiri sushi is what should be ordered and appreciated. The décor of Takumi was splendid and I really felt like I was eating at a fine Japanese restaurant, Takumi also offers teppanyaki in a separate room area. I have no opinion on that since I have not tried. The major complaint I had was the service, really felt tacky for a place that has an image of a 5-star Japanese restaurant. The waitress was poorly trained and to me felt like it was a 2-star experience if I was to judge the service purely. Her name was Sonya and in my opinion I’m not writing this to bring her down, it is rather managements fault for not training her properly. She was not rude or anything, but her method of serving had no warmth, and felt like she just had to do her job, there was no sincere warm treatment with genuine smiles and going out of the way to make sure the service was perfect. She served my chirashi bowl, and didn’t bring a saucer for my chirashi, how am I suppose to eat the fish? This is common sense and shouldn’t be instructed by the customer. Also water was not refilled, I felt the server went missing the entire time we were there, only appearing during when we placed our order and at the end when paying, and this was at 9.00 when the restaurant was completely empty. I would have awarded a near perfect rating for Takumi, but because the service lacks Japanese hospitality, I don’t think this business deserves it. For a fine dining experience: atmosphere, service and great food is required and for takumi service is horrendous in my opinion. I will be back for the chirashi bowl, I hope service would significantly be better.

Let me start by saying I don’t like Teppankyaki. Most of the time their food’s not good because the chefs aren’t aloud to sprinkle some MSG onto your food since you know they got people watching. It’s more for a show then taste. Nasty!
