Over priced and very small portions. Ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken for pick up and got home with maybe a quarter of a chicken breast. Salad dressing was awful and didn’t even use it. It was a container of plain olive oil.

Self service and over priced. Strawberries and cream comes in a super small cup and costs $ 5.50. Salmon eggs Benedict is a salmon spread and is mushy. Mediocre at best.

Once again, my boyfriend and I like to visit casual places that are new to the area, or simply places we haven’t had a chance to visit. We loved the whole look of the place. I didn’t expect the cafeteria style service, but the lounge area was nice while we waited to pick up our food and be seated. The food was not great. It was more on the level of IHOP… which we didn’t expect because the furniture and overall look of the place is inviting. If I’m invited to go, maybe I’ll go again to have coffee, for a meeting, or maybe try something different other than the pancakes.

My friends and I arrived to a beautiful atmosphere for tea time. We ordered a couple snacks and coffee: the garlic cheese bread is worth a try. The hot coffee is not burnt, but I wish it could be hotter– I thought it was too cold. Maybe the coffee was brewed earlier, and not meant for 7:00PM. I am excited to return and try out other food items in the near future.

Headed to Black Walnut while visiting family in Texas. Ordered the Migas for brunch with the fire roasted salad in the side. The dish was so-so. The eggs could’ve been a bit fluffier and more flavorful. All in all it was a nice spot.

I decided to try out the breakfast & ordered an omelet with a Belgian waffle($ 16!!). When the order was being presented, the waffle box fell on the floor… the staff member seemed nonchalant & only made a new waffle for me because I requested one. The floor that 100’s of people\staff walk on is disgusting… so the fact that I witnessed this violation of food code/ethics & you had no care about replacing it, just imagine what we as customers don’t see. The price is way too expensive for the quantity. I will not return nor recommend this place to any friends, strangers or family members.

Amazing cookies, great French dip sandwich! Great place for a business lunch. Fast service! My date didn’t like his meal very much, he got the Chicken Parmesan. They have free wifi and it is not too noisy. Will definitely go back and try their breakfast(only available until 11am)

Our first time here was on Mothers Day for brunch. Excellent food! I had the eggs Benedict with salmon. WOW! Yummy. My wife had the pancakes. All the dishes were excellent. This may be our new breakfast spot. The only downside is the self-serve format. However, the line moved pretty fast and it was worth the wait. Probably will be back here next weekend.

New Frisco location is beautiful and perfect for a lunch break with co-workers and friends. Food is counter service but the seating is a more table service look with common areas, patios and sectioned rooms with both tables and booths. So far all food ordered has had great reviews. Grapefruit gelato was amazing! I will be going back just to get dessert.

Nice little brunch place with great atmosphere. It’s in the suburbs so there is a smaller crowd than I typically see at brunch places which is rarely a bad thing. The interior has this cozy feel to it despite it having tall ceilings that I am always a fan of. Lots of wood paneling that also gives it an old school or boardroom like feel. I had the extra large breakfast or some name close to that. I shared it with my fiancé who also got a benedict. The entrée I got aside from the name was not so large, not close to hash house a go go portions which are very large. I ordered my eggs over medium and typical to every restaurant I’ve ordered them at the chef did not properly prepare them over medium. I should stop ordering my eggs this way but I keep hoping to find one place that can do it correctly. I guess I’ll have to keep cooking them myself haha. I do like the flow of the restaurant although I’m typically not a fan of restaurant styles where you order at the counter, seat yourself and then go pick up your food from the counter. I did come with a large group and some entrees were brought to our table. When you enter a staff member hands you a menu and then you walk past the bar(alcoholic and gelato) to order food. The front of the restaurant has a patio and is well lit but once you get a few more feet in it does get pretty dim. I will be back.

I had fond memories of this place when I went to the location in Houston a long time ago. The food was OK, nothing great or worth trying again. The lunch menu looks like it might have a few things I’d be willing to come back for but brunch was a miss for me. The group ordered– chicken and waffles(chicken strips, great for those who don’t want to pick through bones), steak Benedict(eggs not poached), Philly cheesesteak omelette(made with roast beef, listed on the menu).

EXPENSIVE! For the quantity you get. Went for breakfast, 2 adults/2 children. Ordered three adult meals thinking we could share, not the case. It is very confusing when you walk in, with the quality of the interior you would expect to be seated and have a waitperson. Instead you go up to a counter, order your food, get your drinks and silverware, are given a pager, and pick up your own food. Ridiculously priced for a serve-yourself place! The majority of the waitstaff has a bad attitude and are not helpful. FOOD — get a cinnamon roll, it was FANTASTIC! The pancakes and French toast were good. Beware, drinks are overpriced. The breakfast potatoes tasted burned. WRAP-UP — Beautiful restaurant, but we won’t be going back. Too expensive for a self-serve and the food was not up to the décor.

Black Walnut Café is Frisco’s latest addition, located on the corner of Warren and Legacy right next to RaceTrac. I was in-town for the weekend and came in around 1:30 with my family, and we had luckily missed the lunch crowd. The area is highly visual in style, and I love the lavish interior. The seating arrangement is certainly unique, like you are sitting in your own living room. It’s simple, yet really trendy and well kept — it’s a very«quick casual.» It is a café, so it’s isn’t exactly your traditional restaurant setting. There are several tables, booths, and large chairs to sit in, which may seem very limiting. There is a plethora of different dishes, with many breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I ordered the Max’s chicken, which is a grilled marinated chicken breast, and it absolutely drenched in asiago dressing. It wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it is up there. My dad and siblings order breakfast food, which were very delicious. The pancakes were very buttery and soft; I wasn’t too disappointed, but I wasn’t that impressed. The service here is friendly and welcoming, but it certainly needs to be ironed out. It’s not your typical restaurant where they seat you and a waiter takes your order. There is no host/hostess to seat you, which slightly disappointed me since there was no one who greeted my family upon entering. You simply take a menu, take a seat and any table you want, and order your selection at the cashier in the back of the restaurant. There was only one time where a manager asked us how our food was. Their is very little interaction between employees in guests, which makes me want to dock a few stars. If I were you, I would stick to the breakfast menu. It is pretty pricey, and it seems like a great great place to just meet up with friends or coworkers for a quick snack. I admit, it’s not too shabby, but not a first choice place I’d visit again.

First and foremost, let me start off by saying I do not yep unless I believe an establishment is well deserving of a review, whether good or bad. I absolutely enjoyed this place. From the atmosphere to the music, the plethora of assorted cakes and ice cream to the various wines and beer. The menu is stocked with items to please a vegan, vegetarian or carnivore. The staff, awesome. I forgot our buzzer at the front when I went to pick up our appetizers. The girl at the register brought out our food with a genuine smile. The food. Bomb. My mom and I both had the bison burger for an entrée. I had the tossed ravioli and she had the salmon spread(which has an impeccable flavor, by the way). Sweet potato fries-perfect. A wide variety of teas and coffee. The gelato was delish too. Get the amaretto. You don’t be disappointed. Overall, this is one of my top 5 favorite restaurants and my new go to for delicious, nicely portioned and relatively inexpensive. You go Black Walnut!

This place is the definition of A-OK, in a good way. Came on a Sunday right around noon expecting to have to wait, but there were plenty of free tables. If you’ve never been to a Black Walnut Café before, the system takes some getting used to. You seat yourself and can look over a menu, then get in line when you’re ready to order at the counter and pay. You’re given a pager, and you go back up to the counter to get your own food when they buzz you that it’s ready. Hubs and I both ordered cheeseburger benedict. I tasted exactly like what you’d expect… two little burger patties and cheese on an english muffin with poached eggs covered in hollandaise. Pretty good, but you’ll be full for days. The breakfast potatoes that come with it were blah. Not my style. They won big bonus points for their kids menu. You can get grilled vegetables as a side. My toddler devoured her mac n cheese and although she didn’t eat her veggies, they were fresh and a much better option than french fries if you’re not fond of giving your kid a carb-on-carb meal. Black Walnut wouldn’t be my first choice for brunch, but it wasn’t bad. I’d come back.

Love this place… been here many many many times. Breakfast, Lunch and even more dinners at their bar. Bad night… maybe This one is on Management… not our service from Lexi… she was great! ! How do you wait until 1 persons food is delivered to advise that, the other persons food is not available anymore for the night… what? You are recognizing this now… ugh Plus their #1 selling beer was OUT bad night… maybe…

This place is nice, but too hyped up. It’s very overpriced for a restaurant with no table service. I got the grilled chicken croissant sandwich and fries with creamy tomato basil soup. The sandwich was tiny, fries were really good, the soup was awful. It was brown, and they didn’t give me my garlic bread to go along with it, as they promised. I took 2 bites and threw the rest away. My sons chicken and waffles were alright. My husbands chipotle chicken pasta was good. Gelato was great, they gave free samples. Not too happy with the system of self serve and ordering. When we walked in every table was full. We weren’t sure where to stand while we decided what to order so we stood in the middle of the restaurant very awkwardly. Took us a good 10 mins to find a clean table. Very crowded, very loud, no privacy as the tables are so tightly packed. Ordering for a family of three, and having to go pick up our own food was not fun. They don’t even have trays, so you are basically carrying plates, silverware, napkins, drinks, and you have to make at least 2 trips with 2 people. It’s awful, awful, awful. I wish there were waiters and a better system for ordering food. Didn’t like that at all. Hope they can change that. If I’m paying $ 15-$ 20 per person I want to get at least some kind of service, not struggle to get a table and walk with my heavy plates about to fall.

First let me say that my wife and I have been customers of Black Walnut since 2003 starting at their Woodlands, Texas location. Moving to Frisco in 2005, we missed our local Black Walnut. We were very excited when they opened in Allen and stopped by dozens of times. The café layout and the concept works well for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Your options are vast from salads, burgers, pot roast, to pasta. On August 2nd we had the opportunity to attend the soft opening at Frisco. The greeting, service and food was all there. We choose seats at the bar and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Both managers stopped by to chat and we shared some stories about the BW founder George. They officially opened on the 6th and we will be back. This location is a couple miles from our home and on our way to all the shopping areas in Frisco. I have several favorites that include the Black Walnut Salad with chicken. I sub the tomato dressing with their house asiago dressing. My second go to dish is the pot roast. Tender and the gravy flavor is wonderful. They have a full bar, gelato, and unbelievable dessert options. They do have an outside patio for a seating option, but it’s a bit warm. Make sure you give them a try for coffee and a pastry or lunch/dinner or just drinks. You will not be disappointed.
