I’ve been shopping at this location for years, probably over 7 years. At Christmas time, I buy ornaments for my family here. Whenever we are in need of a quick gift, this is where we go because it is in our neighborhood. Now, I find it hard to give them my business. This is my tale on my recent woeful experience. This year, I bought ornaments at the other J’s Hallmark on Preston because I had lunch at the restaurant next door. Last week, I was out shopping and found really cute ornaments, so I decided to return the ones I bought from J’s. I couldn’t find my receipt, even though I have every single receipt in a large envelope for Christmas gifts(I keep it in case the family needs to return their gift). I call the J’s on Preston and explain that I think they did not give me a receipt. The lady on the phone said if I know which date I purchased them, she can look up my transaction. I look at my credit card bill online, find the date, exact amount and transaction number. I go to the J’s on Preston, explain my situation, and the nice lady there prints me a new receipt. I go home, get my ornaments from their hiding place and go to the J’s on West Main because it is right next door to me. Debbie, the manager looks at my receipt, which was a reprint and says we don’t do returns on ornaments past Dec. 15. I explain my situation, that I can’t find my original receipt, so the J’s at the other store printed me a new one. She said I’ll call the other store and find out«what’s going on». I listened to Debbie’s side of the conversation and immediately get the gist – she thinks I’m trying to do something dishonest. I speak up and ask her point blank and she said«No, I’m not accusing you of anything». She said she would call the store owner and ask what she should do. Debbie comes back and says the owner doesn’t want me upset(too late thanks to Manager Debbie) and that they will return it this time. Again Debbie repeats that she doesn’t want me thinking that she’s accusing me of something, but I have a reprinted receipt and returning at a different store(in other words, she’s accusing me of something). She questioned how I even got a reprint of a receipt. I told her I knew the date, the amount and register that the lady used when I bought my items. By the time she returned my money to my credit card, I had a really bad taste in my mouth. She barely muffles a thanks and good bye as I leave the store. Wow, after all these years of patronage, the ONLYTIME I EVER returned something to J’s Hallmark and this is how it goes down. I understand, it’s the holidays and there’s shenanigans going around, but I think Debbie could have been more gracious to a loyal customer. Debbie was generally haughty and prickly whenever I shopped there, but I never let it bother me. No longer. Sorry store owner, I know you accommodated me, but I can’t bring myself to go back. I would rather drive to Amy’s in Plano.
