Good food, friendly service, fair prices. The dining room needs to be spruced up but otherwise, an overall good experience. We had the talpia and the salmon with baked potatoes, all cooked perfectly. I also recommend the onion soup!

It’s a diner. If you are looking for gluten free or himaylan goat cheese, this ain’t your place. If ambiance will make or break your dining experience, this ain’t your place. Nice diner though. Meatloaf was excellent. And more than I could eat at one time. Left with a full belly and a take out box. Service was quick, friendly and did I mention they bring you meatloaf if you ask.

If I could give a ½ star I would! The place was dirty, the waitress not friendly. She seemed like we were putting her out by even being there. My coffee cup had someones lipstick left on it. The silverware was filthy. The bathroom? I’ve seen gas stations bathrooms cleaner The food was, I don’t even know how to put it! HORRIBLE is the best word I can find. I never Unilocal but couldn’t let this one go! I WILLNEVERWASTEMYMONEY in this place again! All in all the worse place I’ve ever been to! Don’t waste your time or money!

Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately that’s all the positive comments I have for this place. I ordered an omelette and grits and there was no flavor. The grits were like eating… well snot. They were tasteless and slimy. My boyfriend ordered a chicken Caesar wrap and it was mostly salad… no dressing. The booth seats were all ripped up and dirty and some of the staff was rude. I think it’s safe to say, we won’t be back.

I remind myself this is a country diner. Did I receive impeccable service and to-die-for food? Of course not. But did I enjoy a country diner experience? Absolutely! Front Royal Diner would’ve gotten 5 stars if it weren’t for the hot, stale air inside. Another reviewer mentioned this, and I was concerned about it. Unfortunately, when I walked in and felt the air quality inside, I almost turned around and left. I hope the owner can get this fixed. Older people who are always cold, though, may find it perfect. Hard to please everybody. The restaurant is very spacious. A small, raised TV was playing The Price is Right. Walking in, there’s a chalkboard with daily specials. Breakfast is served all day. The menu is extensive — pretty much whatever home-cooked food your heart and belly desire. Service is a mixture of rough country women and being addressed as «Sweetie» and«Honey.» I almost expected to hear a waitress call out, «You can kiss my grits!» The owner has an excellent business idea and cares for the community. It’s a terrific location and caters to both the locals, giving them a nice place for a decent meal and to hang out and chat with friends, as well as the DC area crowd that heads this way to enjoy the Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive. For city folk, eating here would be a far better choice than any chain. Front Royal Diner gives a real country cooking experience. They offer many discounts, to include 10% for seniors and 50%(!!!) for fire and law enforcement. Thank you!!! If you like French onion soup, I highly recommend theirs. While the broth is weaker than I’m used to, it was delightful. Tuna salad sandwich had lots of tuna. With my 50% discount, total bill with tax was $ 4.04. I’m a fan!

Ate there this evening and surprisingly found the food was very enjoyable. The service was impeccable from a very attractive waitress. I didn’t expect crab stuffed flounder to be so good outside of a seafood restaurant, but it was delicious. The only thing that I found negative which is why I didn’t give it five stars was the lack of vegetables. No type of beans were available. It appears to be popular because it got crowded while I was there. I would go back just for the service.

Neither amazing, nor bad. Just was. We ate here on Christmas Eve. We had excellent service, but the food was average. Nothing stood out, and I’m still not sure what we ate. Plenty of people were at the restaurant, at least. Plenty of gravy on my roast beef. Actually, I could have eaten a gallon of the gravy. The chicken fried steak was obviously home-made and home-breaded, but my roast beef sandwich was run-of-the-mill(with the exception of the gravy). Would visit again.

Everyone kept telling me how great this place was so I decided to try it. Our waitress was really nice. The food was a little slow coming out. I ordered the panini but can no longer remember which one since it wasn’t worth remembering. It wasn’t a panini. It was a grilled cheese with chicken. You couldn’t taste anything over the amount of butter they used. Next time I’ll take the advice of my friends and only order breakfast items.

I stopped in to have a late breakfast. That is one of the things I appreciated: Breakfast is available anytime. My waitress took my order, and afterwards made a suggestion that ended up saving me money on the bill. That was very thoughtful of her. I made sure to tip her extra for that. There is a good variety of food, from pancakes to breakfast wraps, biscuits & gravy to breakfast sandwiches on toast, croissants or bagels, etc. For lunch or dinner I noticed a variety of sandwiches, burgers, chicken, even a surf-n-turf. I found it to be the closest thing to an actual diner, unlike the other attempts around here. They even have disco fries! I haven’t seen those since going to the the 24 hour diners in NY after hitting the bars and clubs. Of the two waitresses I observed, it seemed I had the more attentive one. As I waited for coffee, she came by to assure me she just put a fresh pot on. The food was delicious, and well worth returning for. One of the two reasons I did not give it a 5 star ranking is the generic Splenda, Sweet-n-Low and ketchup at the table. I would have preferred to have seen the actual brands. The Splenda generic is not the same. The other reason was a little more obnoxious: The TV was blaring Wendy Williams. I can’t take that show on mute, let alone full volume. Otherwise, I was very happy on this visit, and I will be back soon. They accept credit cards, worth noting, as there are some local restaurants that do not.

Went there on Mother’s Day. They were very busy and we had a new waitress. The French Onion Soup was delicious; the garden salad was huge and Greek Dressing was wonderful. We had to wait for over an hour for our food. But I think it was just overcrowded that day. I will go back and try them again.

We recently dined at this establishment for lunch. Using one word, the dining experience was horrible. Myself and my wife both ordered a simple cheeseburger cooked well, with fries. The burger was a greasy mess and the fries were soggy and undercooked. We had to request a new bun, because the one we were served was drenched with blood. The meat was undercooked. The décor looked old and dated. I noticed a lot of the fixtures were the same ones in use when the place was an Italian restaurant 10 years ago. The worst was the strong cooking odors present in the dining area. I could not wait to leave, as I began to feel an asthma attack coming on from all of the fumes. The service was also very slow as well. This place really deserves no stars as a rating, at least for lunch. IMO, It is one of the worst places to dine in Front Royal. You would be better off eating at some of the better rated places in Front Royal.

After a great day visiting the USMC Museum, we thought to stop on the road and eat so the kids could sleep on the 3 hour drive home, we chose a diner, so we would have fast and friendly service and hopefully good food. it was just around 6 when we stopped in, we were greeted and seated promptly, A waitress came and took our drink orders, we waited 10 minutes to get 5 sodas, 1 teas, 2 chocolate milks a coffee and 2 waters, that should have been our hint to leave, my sister got up and got our menu’s we waited 10 more minutes for the waitress to come back and take our order, as more guest came into the diner, the slower it got(for us anyway) when the waitress came to take our order it would have been nice if she would have let us know it would be over an hour for our food to come, we had 4 young boys with us… we just let them be boys as they were hungry and bored with waiting for this I do apologize to the other guest in the diner, but it’s not like we could have sent them to their rooms. At last the food comes well most of the food, my sister and father had to wait an extra 5 minutes for theirs, the waitress not once came to refill drinks, I got up and ask the hostess, she said“I will let your waitress know” I was like NO, I’ll just get my own, I walked to the drink station and ask a staff member their for another soda, and let her know we needed drinks for our table, but we still had to ask a different waitress to get our drinks, but damn the food was good, but not worth the wait. we didn’t leave till after 9pm, I don’t know if I have ever stayed at a restaurant that long with out being at a wedding reception, would I go again, I just don’t think so, but if your not in a big party there were 8 of us, you might give it a try

Just wanted to give an update. We stopped in yesterday for Mother’s Day. My wife ordered the special(there were actually a few specials to choose from), a ravioli, with chicken and broccoli. The girls had pancakes and our son had Popcorn Shrimp. I got the French Dip and I would have to say that it’s the best French Dip in Front Royal. The portion size of all our entries were quite decent. :) I am not expecting much, I mean it is a «diner». Considering that the building used to be an Italian restaurant, they did a nice job with the decorations. The waitress we had this time was more familiar with the menu verses the waitress we had last time. Next time we’re back, I’ll have to try something different.

My husband and I had hamburgers here in August 2012. It was overpriced and the food was barely mediocre. The hamburgers were made form frozen patties. Mayo — yeah, the white stuff — cost extra!

This is about as meh as meh gets. The service is outstanding, the food is meh. I find it odd that the waitress had a difficult time with my friend’s order — an egg & cheese sandwich on toast. The way she reacted to this was like no one in the right mind at 8am had ever ordered meal like that.(However, he noted it was good.) The eggs & homefries I had were alright. I eat a lot of omelets and there was definitely nothing out of the ordinary or awesome about this one. It had meat. In eggs. With cheese. I mean, how can you go wrong? But because they are a friendly group of people and the whole place looks clean(and it takes credit cards) this place won our vote while we were in Front Royal for the weekend. Next time I go back I’m bringing more cash and heading to a different diner.(Then again, the real question should be, when am I ever coming back to Front Royal at 8am?)

Pretty standard«diner in a box.» Can’t go wrong with breakfast. Skip it for lunch or dinner though. There are plenty of inexpensive options with much better food around Front Royal. It use to be a fancy Italian restaurant, and they’ve kept the décor.
