Went for apps and drinks with a friend and for a chain this place is still a favorite of mine. They have taken the Hypnotiq martini off the menu but kind bartenders will make it without a problem. The mussels Josephine is consistently good and the portion size is enough for two. The pecan Parmesan crusted rainbow trout and seasonal rock fish are always well seasoned and tasty. I never have to wait for a table and the staff is so knowledgable and kind.

Excellent food and excellent service! The only thing that holds back the 5 star rating is that the crab cake was very tiny. I am from Maryland and they give you a bigger crab cake. It was very good, but overpriced for the size. Also, the coconut cream pie had way too much coconut in it. If you like a mouth full of coconut in each bite, you will like it.

Excellent experience. I brought the family for a birthday event, and everyone enjoyed their food. The Bang Bang Shrimp is an appetizer that you can not go wrong with, The Dumplings were also very tasty. I ordered the Snapper with Shrimp special, and my wife ordered the crab cakes. Both were delicious. My mother in law had the Fish and Chips, which she loved! It had been some time since we had been here. We’ll definitely come back sonner.

We haven’t been here in a while due to new local options. We came back tonight wanting something we can’t get in the heart of Gainesville and the food was absolutely delicious!!! The servers were so friendly & efficient. I can’t believe how good the muscles &LOBSTERROLL are!!! Steak made perfectly & even the kids chicken nuggets were great!

He only negative is sometimes they are so busy the wait is long. ESP on special occasions like Valentine’s Day. It’s worth it though. The Caesar salad is the best I’ve ever had. I love the Lily’s chicken and the filet mignon. Bread and olive oil dip is delicious as well. We used to love the chocolate crime brûlée, but it was discontinued. please bring it back!!!

We had a fabulous experience at bone fish ! The waiter was great and very friendly. We have not gone to this restaurant in such a long time that we did not know what to choose, the waiter recommended two separate dishes for my husband and I. We were very pleased with what he recommended! When the food came out, it was great and very presentable ! The manager«Dan» even came by and introduced himself to us and wanted to make sure that we were pleased with everything! That made us feel very welcomed !!! Very delightful experience !!!

As we are custom to do, the wife and I came to Bonefish to celebrate our anniversary. As always we started off with mussels Josephine, they were awesome as always. We really like sopping up the liquid with the bread they provide. For our entrees we both went away for our usual selections, she got a scallop special and I got the ahi tuna bowl. Hers was 5 or 6 nice sized scallops with bacon over a corn risotto, it looked great and she said it tasted great. The tuna bowl is a sesame crusted seared piece of tuna over a bed of jasmine rice that has been mixed with a little bit of dried seaweed. Also served with ½ an avocado, a spicy/sweet sauce, crispy won ton strips, and a bell pepper«salsa». The fish was OK, but felt to me as if it wasn’t seared off to order, the sesame seeds were almost soggy. The avocado had some brown spots that needed to be trimmed, not too big of a deal. The salsa was a joke and I didn’t bother tasting because of the overkill amount of cilantro. The sauce has a strong flavor and they give you more than you could use, I pity the person who dumps it over their dish without testing it first. We finished with a crème brûlée which was very tasty and also very big, probably the largest serving I’ve seen before. Bonefish is still at the top of our list, but I would never get the tuna bowl again, just not for me.

Not sure what is going on here. Let me start by saying I really like bonefish. We live very close to this one and have been coming here often since it opened years ago. I believe two things are happening. First, the place is under new management. Second, the business as a whole is under some serious competition due to growth in the area. Last night our drinks, dinners, and atmosphere were just off. I get the Ultimate every time I go in. It was off– watered down with way to much olive juice mixer. I ordered the full Ahi appetizer which came out with over half of it cooked well-done. When one of the managers walked around«checking in» asked how things were I told and showed him the tuna. He responded saying that maybe this tuna had been cooked/prepared last night! Really? I hope they get their stuff back in one bag as there are many more close-by options that deliver consistent food.

Very blah. Should fire the chef, waitress, and the purchasing mgr. lamb chop was paper thin, well done instead of medium rare, appetizer was brought out same time as main, coffee came out after half through desert after reminding the slow wait staff. shall I continue? I was sooo nice leaving 10% tip. Perhaps. I should go to heaven for giving to charity.

Love the salmon with mango salsa. I wish they wouldn’t up charge in you didn’t want seasonal side. Also garlic mashed potatoes are really good! Jordan the hostess provides really great service. Wish they’d put flatware in to go orders without asking. One of the best chain restaurants around.

This was the first time I have ever dined at this location of Bonefish. It was a pretty nice experience and I would be willing to try it again. My husband and I ate here last night. Although the restaurant was pretty packed, the hostess sat our party of two in no time. Our waiter was very nice and very new. He forgot a few things, but that comes with the territory of being new. We declined an appetizer but decided to get some adult beverages. My husband got a draft beer and I got their lemon drop martini(with ketel one instead of absolute). The martini was ice cold and very well made! For our entrée, I got the Kobe beef burger with bacon,(bacon is an extra $.90 but everything is better with bacon) and instead of greens or chips, I got sweet potato mash as a side. I’m very glad I did. The Kobe burger was perfectly cooked at medium, but it was VERY greasy.(Including the bun). Other than being greasy, it was very good. As was my sweet potato mash. It was a pretty small portion and cost an extra $ 1.50. It was worth it though, it helped balance out the greasiness of the burger. My husband got the chowder and the spicy tuna bowl. He said both were tasty, but he wasn’t blown away. All in all, I would give Bonefish another chance. I will definitely be back for more of those delicious martinis.

Very disappointed. We waited 45 minutes for one of the worst experiences we have had in a long time. The waiter was absent… Asked for bread… Asked for water… Asked for the sides we ordered– nothing. Ugh. Won’t be back.

It’s been awhile since I have been to Bone Fish. For the appetizer we have shrimp stuffed with lobster encrusted with a crumble with capers. Limited time available it was delicious and a must try. I had the North Atlantic Haddock with a side of couscous. She had the chilean Sea bass. Everything was cooked prefect and busting with favors. I need to come back more often.

Their bang bang shrimp is to die for, as well as their bread with olive oil dip. I like the bang bang shrimp so much that I eat it as an appetizer and then get the bang bang shrimp tacos as an entrée. The desserts are ok and the service could be better.

I agree with some of the comments that this place has gone downhill. The server actually snapped at me last time I went there(and that was the last time I will go). I asked for water from a waitress who was not ‘our’ waitress and she got attitude with me. Granted, I do thing being a server must be stressful, but I didn’t feel inclined at this point to give them any more of my money. We got up to leave and the manager tried to make it right, and I do compliment him for that. I was done at that point as the food just is not that good, and I am tired of the rural VA service we get out here on the furthest edge of the expanding DC suburbia. We commute for good restaurants just like we have to commute for work. We do have some nicer ‘chain’ type restaurants popping up here in Gainesville, but they are staffed by the local yokels who strive for poor service and like to keep a consistent state of uncleanliness. There is a silver lining though — being forced to eat at home is both healthy and cost saving.

I have been here various times mainly for my own anniversary(it was the place I had my first date with my husband) and my parents’ anniversary. My husband is always branching out and trying new menu items. I normally stick to my usual scallops and shrimp. However, they did have a special with crab that was to die for! The cream sauce that came with the dish was simply amazing. One of the best seafood dishes I have had in a while. My only negative comment is that my husband and I went here before his deployment in 2011. It was a few weeks before our second anniversary(of dating at the time). They were very crowded. Once we started digging into our appetizer — the popular Bang Bang shrimp — I noted that they tasted really«gummy.» I cut one open and removed the sauce only to find it virtually uncooked and gray. This turned my mood off for the evening and I was sick with food poisoning that night into the next morning… not the ideal situation when my husband is deploying a couple days later. It took me 2 years to go back(when they had the crab special listed above) and it didn’t take long to cure whatever worries I had about getting sick again.

I wasn’t too thrilled with how long it took to get our food once our order was placed(probably about 25 – 35 minutes). We were there on a Friday night, around 6.30p, and they weren’t too terribly busy at this point. But, our waitress was very nice, very apologetic for getting to the table a little later than right after we sat down, and just the right amount of attentive. I ordered the burger(I know… But I dislike tilapia and my other two choices — tacos and fish/chips — were made out of tilapia) and my husband had the bang bang shrimp. I heard no complaints from him about his food; my burger was delicious. It was juicy, the toppings were fresh and the fries were outstanding. Do yourselves a favor if you’re of legal drinking age: get the ocean trust martini. It. Is. Amazing. It’s pineapple and mango with vodka and lemon juice with a jalapeño… And that little jalapeño slice gives the right amount of heat and kick. The flavors work so well together and if I hadn’t gotten so drunk off of one, I would’ve ordered three more(lightweight here). One last note to management — get that flickering light over the two top at the very end of the partition near the bathrooms fixed. It made ordering a psychedelic experience that I wasn’t too wild about.

I must say I have always loved Bonefish, but the Gainesville location has been hit or miss for me lately. We live practically walking distance from this place so we have visited it frequently for several happy hours and dinners. The wait time is pretty long, as can be expected, but my main complaint is their bang bang shrimp. I’ve read several reviews on here saying they love the bang bang shrimp, so maybe I’ve just had a few poor experiences, but my shrimp always seems to come out soggy and really unappetizing. Also the few times that we have come for dinner, the waiters completely forgot about us, probably since they were so busy, but they were always apologetic and friendly. I will definitely continue to come to Bonefish, I just hope they step up their game on the shrimp! It’s the only dish I ever get and it would be a shame to stop enjoying it!

Hmmm, somehow it seems I’ve never reviewed the Bonefish Grill in Gainesville, VA even after living in the area for the past 6 years! I went with some friends for Easter Brunch. The place was really busy. I ordered the Caesar salad and crab cakes. I had them plunk the crab cakes right on top of the Caesar salad. Our food took quite a while to come out — but I was sort of expecting that as they were getting slammed all at once. When the food finally did come out — some 20 minutes later, it was really good! Other times I’ve been here I’ve come in to sit at the bar and have a beer, or come in for some of the Bang Bang shrimp!
