I wish I could rate this place as highly as many of the other view here, but unfortunately my experience today with them was not as good. Perhaps they were just having an off day, so take this as you like, but I ordered hot & sour soup, which was largely tasteless; egg rolls, which I admit were good; and the crispy beef, which although was advertised as a «chef specialty» was so over fried that it was completely dried through like a pork rind — it’s supposed to be crispy beef, not crunchy beef ;-) I might try this place again, but not after making my rounds with the other places in town.

General Tso chicken was very tasty and hot. Very large portions. Great value on their lunch specials. Also compared to most the other Chinese rest. they had the best tasting hot and sour soup. Kind of in the back of the retail center so not visible from the main road. I have been going here for 3 – 4 years now so I will definitely be back.

My hubby and I were searching in futile last night for restaurants that would still be open until 10:00. Luckily for us China East popped up in our search, so we immediately headed there. Like others have said, don’t get General Tso’s chicken if you like and are familiar with more«authentic»(quotes because people often question and/or hate this word) Chinese menus and dishes. They have a smaller menu of Chinese dishes that may seem exotic or entirely homey and familiar, depending on your level of comfort with Chinese food. Dishes include steamed whole fish, salty and crispy squid, noodles with ground pork and bean paste sauce, and beef noodle soup. We opted for the shredded pork with dried bean curd and fish filet with seaweed. As with some menu descriptions, these names really don’t tell you as much about your dishes and provide what to expect, except the ingredients that will go into them. While both sounding fairly simple and not terribly exciting, both of our orders were delicious. The shredded pork with dried bean curd was perfectly seasoned, just the right of salt, and smoky. Think of the smokiness of beef chowfoon. I nibbled on a bite or two of shredded tofu and was impressed. My fish filet with seaweed was this unusual mix of fish and seaweed coated with a light and well-seasoned, salty(though not overly) batter. Despite not being a fan of anything fishy, my husband approved. The chef is clearly skilled, whipping up two strong, flavorful dishes in almost no time. No orchids adorn the plate or anything, just really solid food. The restaurant is pretty spare, but it’s clean. And it has a good setup for solo or group dining. Service is decent; the woman who helped us seemed really surprised that we ordered the fish filet and seaweed, but she made sure to check and see how we liked our dish. Overall, she was nice, though not necessarily formal, which is totally okay with us. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something beyond orange chicken. Also, they supposedly offer xiao long bao or soup dumplings on the weekends. We’ll come back to try one day and let you know!

One of our friends recommended this place a long time ago. One day we decided to give it a try and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The price is good, the portion is big and the food is great. I love their dishes are not as greasy as other Chinese restaurants(most Chinese restaurant tend to add too much oil to the dishes). We always had our food to go. It’s always done within 15 minutes. That’s really awesome! The dishes we like: — Pan fried bean curd(tofu dish) — Shredded pork with dry bean curd — Stir-fried rice/rice noodles/lo mein(you can make it spicy! Even better) — Pork with string beans Still got a lot to try. :)

The worst chinese take-out ever. Typical«we are never wrong» attitude from the owner. They actually made my Kung pao chicken sweet. No variety whatsoever, using general tso sauce to make Kung pao dishes. Disgusting!

Great little gem. Don’t order the Americanized food(wonton and General Tso) because that’s just on the menu to make the less adventurous happy. Instead, order from the Chinese menu. The Chef is trained in Hong Kong not California.

My family has had food delivered from this restaurant thrice now. I should’ve written an excellent review each time! It’s rare you can find shredded meat protein with dry bean curd at just any Chinese restaurant, but China East has it with chicken, beef, or pork! My grandma has dentures and can’t chew tough meats, so we ordered shredded chicken with dry bean curd. The chicken was tender for my grandma, tasted much better than expected in this dish to me(because I was so used to beef or pork), and was surprisingly not as greasy as one would expect from Chinese food. I’ve also had shredded beef with dry bean curd and it was delicious as expected. I like how they add celery because I feel like I’m losing weight when I eat it. We also ordered beef with broccoli and my grandma had no problems chewing the beef; that was very surprising because most of the Chinese restaurants I’ve been to always have really tough beef that you have to throw in your mouth whole and chew the crap out of before you can swallow. That was not a problem for any of us. Another pleasant surprise was the aromatic white rice that I later confirmed was Jasmine rice! It’s my favorite rice! All in all, all the dishes were pleasantly delectable. This establishment seems to have an expert Chinese chef who knows how to cater to the gourmand(quality and quantity) in me. Lastly, I’ll tell you I didn’t mind the looks of that delivery boy who came around a few times to the house. He was aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. I hope when we order again, he’ll come back! =)

This is my go to place for delivery. They always tell you 45 min on delivery but I swear the chef is in my driveway cooking it as most times it is about 20 min. My orders have always been accurate and good. Some of my favorite dishes are the sweet and sour shrimp which is more shrimp than coating and you get 12 large shrimp in a dinner order, egg foo yun and chow foon are awesome and always piping hot. Hot and sour soup is my favorite and is packed with flavor and easy on spice allowing you to adjust to your taste… I actually order extra for leftover. They will also alter ingredients and veggies you don’t like. Affordable with lunch specials also available slightly larger for dinner

We stopped here on the way to Shenandoah Woods and the food was okay. I got the sesame chicken(white meat) combo with fried rice which was a nice sized meal. The chicken and rice were both good but I didn’t even touch the egg roll(didn’t look too appealing). My biggest issue with this restaurant was the rather uninviting vibe I got from the place. There was only one lady in the front so the service wasn’t very attentive. Also, it felt extremely formulaic, like friendly and welcoming service shouldn’t be expected. Just order, get food, get bill, get fortune cookies, and get out. Although I will say the food was reasonably priced with the combo being under $ 10.

I just called + asked for delivery. The lady told me that delivery is $ 30 minimum BCOFTHESNOW. I was understanding when she told me it’d be an hour wait [even though they’re less than a mile from my house], but $ 30 minimum for delivery bc of the snow?! Stupid.

The food is really good! If you are familiar with more authentic Chinese food, then make sure you order from the Chinese menu. We live close by, so knowing where it is located isn’t a problem for us, but if you are coming in from out of town, then you need to drive past where the urgent care is and the Pizza Hut(behind the building that the Pizza Hut is located). Most of the time there are no diners because it is primarily a carry out /delivery place.

Best Chinese food in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. Excellent food at a great price. Huge selection for the dinner menu.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. By far the best Chinese food in the Gainesville/Haymarket/Manassas area. The prices are a little higher, but the quality and quantity is definitely there. Try the crispy shredded beef, it will change your life. Please go to this restaurant! Because it’s hidden back from the main road it’s almost always empty and I’d hate to see one of the few good local places go out of business to make room for another Subway.

The food here is one of the best Chinese food restaurants around. They make their dumplings fresh, the crispy beef is the best I have ever had. I also love their cucumber salad which is full of flavor from the garlic that is smashed into the dish. We have ordered many dishes from here and we have not been disappointed. The owner is basically working on her own beside the chef and delivery guy so cut her a break, her bedside manner is not that of a 5-star high end restaurant but the food totally makes up for it.

Ok I haven’t been to China East for several months. Normally food is hot & delicious. This time we ordered food for delivery. I will admit the food always arrives hot even if the weather is freezing out. The delivery is awesome. The reason I gave 3 stars this time is, the taste of the General Tao is different & was tasteless. We were disappointed. We did call to let them know, but all we got was«the taste is a little different because most people don’t like it sweet???» I don’t know. I don’t recall General Tao to be all that sweet but it normally is very flavorful, it was not the case this time. I was sad. Was so looking forward to fried rice & some General Tao chicken :( Unfortunately it’s gonna be a very long time before we try it again.

The restaurant was clean and the food was great. The prices are very reasonable and the food portions are large especially for the price. Service was great as well. They were not busy when I went there and the food came out very fast. Can’t wait to go back and try some more items on their menu. Definitely suggest people to try them.
