Best place for breakfast in Gainesville, VA. We have gotten sick at the IHOP twice. Only issue is leaking ceiling often, so we always sit in the bar booths. Great Greens smoothie. Keep up the good work.

Food is consistently good, love the various egg Benedict dishes like lobster and salmon, fresh fruit is good along with waffles. Dinner options such as baked brie are also good. Service is inconsistent. Have been there when it is very quiet and it took 15 minutes to get drinks. Have also gotten great service on busy mornings during the Sunday after church rush.

I went with a group of four & all our entrees tasted bad. No one finished their meal. Waste of money.

We stopped at the Gainesville location late morning. It was our first visit to Eggspectation. I was waiting for my husband so we could go visit my dad in the hospital. Thought it would be a nice place to eat and wait. We were seated on the patio and greeted quickly by our server. I ordered an omelette and requested no onions. When my food came, I started to eat. Almost halfway through, I noticed onion slivers in my omelette. I stopped eating immediately as onions make me physically ill. I wasn’t able to let our server know as the next time I saw her, she was dropping off the check. By this point, my dad was in the ICU so I was in a big hurry. I paid the bill and just left. About 5 – 10 minutes down the road, I started feeling very ill. Yup, the onions were making me sick. Not good. It’s 2.5 hours later and I’m still sick. And very unhappy.

Very good food. Quite a few gluten free choices. My favorite is the gluten free Bayou Benedict.

This place is truly a hit or miss. Someday’s you go in and it’s fine. But other times its chaotic. Food is mediocre but it’s nearby to where I live. My opinion is that there’s not a high regard for customer service. There are a lot of young people that work there, which is fine because I’m young too, but there’s a lack of business maturity that comes with that sometimes. Since it’s the only breakfast place in the Madison crescent area you’d think that they would bring up their level of excellence a little. I go to the one in Chantilly sometimes too. And I guess because of where it’s situated there’s more traffic there so the workers are a tad better. I only eat here out of convenience. But not sure if I would continue. Today was awful!

This place STILL has not figured out the recipe for eggs Benedict, still wanting to put cheese on it. I ordered it anyway but told them to leave off the cheese. They overcooked the eggs and it came with thin slices of ham. Was rather forgettable. I tried to order their cranberry juice but they REALLY had none. Trying to give me cranberry juice cocktail instead. Tried to order grapefruit juice but they had no regular grapefruit juice, only the red juice. Finally ordered unsweetened tea with lime wedges uncut down the middle. I asked the waitress about their biscuits and gravy and it WAS made with turkey sausage(yuck). But the place does have pork sausage. Ordered the crêpe Suzette for dessert but it was pretty bad. The sauce just didn’t taste good. My wife ordered a salad which she liked but she tried the crêpe Suzettes and didn’t like it either. The waitress was outstanding and I really enjoyed her service. I figured my behavior would tick her off but she spent some time talking to me and asking me questions about the food. I left her a good tip. I had a coupon and my meal was about $ 17.50 but I left her $ 8.50. I hope it was enough!

The food was good today but that was the only positive. We waited and waited to be seen at our table. I finally asked the hostess who was very surly about sending someone over. Meanwhile the wait staff at the bar were checking cell phones and pointedly ignoring customers. For the prices they charge they need staff to justify it.

It’s really a mixed bag with this location. So we came in this morning, and when they tried to seat us at a table, we requested a booth instead. That shouldn’t be a formula for confusion, but it seemed to have been. I don’t think there was actually a waitress assigned to the booth they sat us at because sitting seemed to be the only thing they were going to have us do as no one ever even approached us for at least 10 minutes if not longer. Finally, the waitress for the table right next to us asked if we had been greeted and when I told her no, she took our order. I ordered the veggie omelet, but wanted to substitute the eggs for egg whites, and the broccoli and cauliflower for red onions and scallions as well as to replace the lyonnaise potatoes with cheesy grits(I know, I know, I substituted almost everything… I can be really annoying at times). My buddy ordered the breakfast burrito. When the food came, the omelet had whole eggs and I had to send it back, but I got to keep the grits which were really good. My buddy got his burrito which was of course executed flawlessly(he’s not really polite because he ate without me, but whatever). So I ate my grits… and waited. I drank my water… and waited. I drank my Diet Pepsi and waited some more. Finally someone came and asked if everything was okay(I think it was some sort of manager or something since he was wearing a bow tie). He went to go look my missing omelet and offered to get more Diet Pepsi and water. As he walked away, the omelet arrived. My buddy just sat there staring at me since he was done with his breakfast, I guess he was bored or something, so I swallowed my omelet like it was the bit of food on earth and waited. A waiter… or food runner… or whatever he was brough the bill, but rather than substituting the broccoli and cauliflower with red onions and scallions, they charged me for them. After sending the bill back to be corrected, the guy with bow tie came back a few monutes later with a corrected bill. All was well. Never did actually see the waitress after that first time, so no one actually got a tip. How was the food? It was actually good, but the service here is kind of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde-esque…sometimes it great, other times is abysmal… this time it was abysmal. I’ll still come bak here though because the food is good. They just need to sort out their back and forth crappy service.

This place reminded me a lot of First Watch, in that it’s a cute restaurant with a lot of big eats, additionally to the fact that there’s a nice breakfast, brunch, and lunch items, but has a lot better hours. Considering it was an odd hour, lunch was very good here. I got a hot apple cider, a cinnamon bun, and the French Toast Page. My friend got a side of bacon and pancakes. The food came out rather quickly, a definitely plus. However, the apple cider isn’t very good. It looks attractive, but it is not the best that I would want to order it again. The French Toast on the other hand, was very good. Excellent, fluffy, and well cooked, smothered with fruit. I didn’t even need the English Cream, as it’s lightly dusted with sugar. I did not expect the portions to be as big as they were, otherwise I would have done without the cinnamon bun, which was a bit rich, not bad, but you have to eat it with a fork and knife. My friend liked the bacon, saying that it had plenty of taste and was not undercooked(and some places do tend to overdo it). He was pleasantly surprised at his 4 stack of pancakes which he promptly devoured and enjoyed. Considering we both either had a light, or no breakfast, this place definitely worked in our favor for the remainder of the day. And I will most definitely return here for future breakfasts, brunch, lunch, or anytime!

Bottom Line: Staff is inexperienced and oblivious. Food is mediocre and doesn’t warrant the price tag. Visited Eggspectation for the first time this morning and it I could tell immediately I made a mistake. I ordered a simple carry out for my wife and my daughter. The young lady taking my order didn’t know what they had on the menu and had to ask me to hold while she got a menu to verify every item I ordered was on there. I understand if someone is new, but don’t let them manage the phones if they have no idea what they are doing. I arrived to pick up my order I was surprised to see 6 employees leaning around talking at the reception area. They made no attempt to look busy or professional when I walked in. I was pointed to the bar area, were a young man was leaning against the counter with his back to me. The whole experience was awkward and has no place in hospitality. I got home, and they forgot my toast and bacon. It was $ 45 for 2 adults and a 3-year old to eat,

Has to be the best eggs and bacon place around! They can do most of the menu Gluten Free too — they substitute an amazing polenta for toast, for example

Family and I came here for lunch my birthday. The server was very friendly. Food was quick. We got the baked Brie crostini as an appetizer and it was delicious. The kids got chocolate pancakes so of course they loved it. I got the chicken havarti sandwich with a side salad. It was way too much to eat but it was good non the less. Hubby got a blue cheese burger and he struggled to try to finish it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars vs 5 was the price of everything is higher than most other surrounding places which was what stopped me from trying different items.

This continues to be a poor example of an Eggspectations. Having eaten at various others I can say that as an honest comparison. In the past we have had issues from extremely disgusting items poured from tea pitchers into our glasses, dirty plates, silverware, sub par cooking, etc. Today I decided to give them one last chance. I was absolutely famished and called in a large breakfast order. I requested an omelet breakfast with the breakfast potatoes, small side of fruit and small side of beans. I asked to add two pancakes and two strips of bacon to the order. Very large breakfast for me, but hey every so often why not. Imagine my surprise when walking in the door to pick it up they quoted me $ 40! After discussing how insane this is for a single breakfast with two sides they brought it down to 33 $ and change. Still highway robbery. Have I paid more for breakfast at other places? Yup. Were they much more upscale with a high end ingredient choice? Yup. I will not be retuning here nor recommending it to others, in fact quite the opposite. Besides above we have had various server issues. I’m not sure why this Eggspectations has so many difficulties as compared to the others but consider this one a lemon.

I come here for extravagant breakfasts and bloody marys. Today instead of my usual order of way too much food I tried the sausage biscuits and gravy. As a southerner I can tell you these are northern biscuits and gravy. I’m guessing by the texture that the sausage is turkey based and very sweet — more like a sweet Italian sausage than a Jimmy Dean sage. The gravy, sparingly applied, was of the right consistency, but lacked the rich flavor found in a traditional southern gravy. The biscuits, cut open face, were light and fluffy — which again is the opposite of southern — made a traditionally heavy dish more enjoyable. Overall, the dish is quite good. Just don’t order it expecting a taste of the south. You can order a side of baked beans with it and feel right at home in the northeastern US.

Went to ES for a few drinks and a quick app on Friday 6pm. We sat at the bar, service was terrible. In the 90mins we spend here we got served one drink each. Rest of the time we were ignored. My white wine was pretty warm. Very disappointing. We were 2 of 7 ppl sitting st the bar and everyone seemed frustrated with service. Pity cos the calamari was actually tasty.

Updated review — stick with breakfast and they are great! Wasn’t a huge fan of their French toast. Or their lunch/dinner items. My advice is stick with their egg dishes and you can’t go wrong. Omelettes are great. Their grilled breakfast burrito is my personal fave. Service is always great!

My wife and I finally tried this place. She had the grilled burrito and I had the southwest sunrise omelette. I should not have put off coming to this place for so long. If you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast this is the place to go!

I’ve been here many times and I have mixed feelings because sometimes it’s really awesome and sometimes it’s a disappointment. This is usually dependent upon the wait staff and where I am seated. For starters, they have a huge menu and most of the portions are very large. I love being able to get breakfast any time of day, so that’s a bonus in my book. On the other hand sometimes I feel like the menu is too large and it makes choosing what to eat a headache. When I get my food I am almost always very satisfied. My personal favorites are the chicken & waffles, the Rueben, any of the burgers and almost everything from the breakfast menus. The wait staff is hit or miss. Sometimes we get really awesome service and other times it’s sketchy. For the most part they do a decent job and I don’t have any serious complaints. The décor of the place is cool and hip. The colors are blended well with the brick walls. I do have an issue with the seating. Some of the booths lack padding and others are like sitting on an uncomfortable wooden park bench. When I come with others they don’t seem to mind, but I don’t like it. Also in some of the padded booths the table feels too low to the ground so it feels like my food is a mile away. The restrooms are always clean and pleasant. They actually have some decent décor in there, unlike many businesses. Since they cook the food well and they have a big menu I will continue to return.
