It’s changed hands a few times over the years but the chicken is always good and the extra sweet teriyaki sauce that it’s know for has always been the same.

I’ve had good experiences at Maui in the past. However, those days are over. I drove over an hour to go to Gainesville for 2 things– Maui being one. Arrived to find that they moved locations again. New location difficult to find. Arrived at 8:30pm and attempted to place order only to be told by rude woman that they would not prepare what I ordered, as they only had chicken«left for the day». Their chicken is less than desirable so I chose to take my business elsewhere, and I will continue doing so.

Sure, the food was great and the price, appropriate. But what really made my experience worth 5 stars was the service. The staff was so kind and helpful, I have never had that level of hospitality in a restaurant before. It’s worth the trip just for that.

Solid fresh food. Super cheap for a ton of food. I was new to the place and the lady offered me ¼ piece of chicken breast as a sample. It was delish, so I ordered the bowl with veggies, brown rice, & spicy teriyaki. Huge portions and great value. I went here because my usual stop was closed. Hard to find a healthy meal this quick and cheap.

I started eating here as a poor student. Fresh, simple, tasty and fills you up. It’s fast and convenient. Great sauces.

Some people love this place, but I just don’t get it. The meat is average at best and the vegetables are really bland. Very limited menu.

Stopped by our way through Gainesville based on Unilocal recommendations. Was definitely a hit! Huge portions and delicious teriyaki sauce(I added some of the hot sauce as well). The veggies were also really good and not mushy at all.

I always order the lunch special, subbing brown rice and white meat, and I’m never disappointed. The food is fresh and hot and we enjoy.

This place has gone down hill. I paid 9 dollars for cabbage and a little chicken an a bowl. I was still hungry afterwards. Don’t go here!!!

Went yesterday for lunch and this time the Unilocalers were on the money. Good solid food !! I had the chicken bowl and we ordered the fried dumplings too. Both were very tasty — especially with the spicy teriyaki sauce ! Will be a favorite lunch spot for sure

I looooooove this place. If I am traveling on I-75 and pass Gainesville around lunch or dinner time this is where I stop. All I ever order is the Chicken Teriyaki bowl so that’s my only frame of reference. Juicy, succulent slices of chicken in a teriyaki glaze served over vegetables and white rice. Order at counter and u get your food quickly. Yum! I brought leftovers for my husband once. I will never go home without a full order for him ever again. That or I’ll have to lie and deny stopping at MT! So here I sit. Licking the bowl. Oh yeah, a to-go box for the hus is traveling with me.

This is one of my memories of living in Gainesville. When I think of the tastes I remember from living here, Maui Teriyaki is definitely in the top 3. Came back yesterday for the 2nd time in 6 years, and re-hit MT. Damn, are the medium sized bowls bigger than they used to be?! It’s huge! And totally what I needed. Don’t forget to get an egg roll too, because they are unique and awesome! I wish they still had their Sweet and Sour sauce, alas, no more. Perrrfect with the egg rolls. Mmmmm. Reminds me of Gainesville.

I was in town for the AMA Junior Nationals and this place(hefty with positive reviews) was conveniently located beside my hotel. Because of the immense positive feedback, I decided to give it a try. My girlfriend and I split one of the daily special«chicken bowls» which only cost us $ 6.99 and included a drink and free rice refills. The chicken itself was quite good, and was a portion that I found reasonable for the low price point. It sat atop a mound of white rice, soaked in the delicious sauce, and a few veggies were peppered throughout the bowl. We worked our way through the meal and couldn’t even stomach a refill of rice. Considering it was my first actual«meal» after 15 hours of driving and a few hours at the track, I was really pleased at the taste, portion, and price. I should also mention the service was EXTREMELY friendly, helpful, and genuine. The only reason it earned 4 and not 5 stars is because of the presentation. The dining area was a sort of up-scale meets fast food combination that didn’t impress me; however, it was clean. Also, the food was brought out in a Styrofoam to-go container, the soda was in a small Styrofoam cup, and the flatware was all plastic. Overall I suppose that’s to be expected for what is considered fast food. I just favor presentation over cost-effectiveness. Definitely recommended for Chinese food fans.

This is supposed to be a fast food place? Really? I came in here on a whim and ordered their special(medium chicken bowl which comes with rice and vegetables, and a drink) and was quite impressed! For fast food, it’s surprisingly high quality. The chicken was very good, wasn’t too fatty and they give you plenty of it. I liked the rice a lot too, it was fluffy and just the way I like it. What really makes it shine though is the sauce. It’s homemade and isn’t too sweet or salty, the perfect balance! That rice topped with their teriyaki sauce is pure heaven. They have more sauce up at the front and you can take as much as you want. If it wasn’t for the quick service, low prices and the Styrofoam box my food came in, I would seriously have a hard time believing that it’s fast food. Check it out!

Love the Maui !!! There is no other restaurant like Maui I’ve ever come across in all my travels ! Here’s the quick scoop. Simple place, walk up order counter, order your food(suggest large chicken bowl no sauce(or what they call ‘dry’), wait 10 minutes, number called, get your food and enjoy. Large bowl will run you about $ 8, small is around $ 5.GREATDEAL. wait until you see what you get !! This can be consider FASTFOOD only because of the time it takes to get your food. but it’s much better for you than any FASTFOOD Maui makes their own Teriyaki sauce which as other posters have said is perfect, no to sweet, definitely not salty, excellent, wish I had the home made recipe they use. There is a sauce bar there so you can get small cups of your favorite sauce, that’s why I order it DRY, let’s me control the amount of sauce. Chicken bowl is jasmine rice on the bottom(they offer unlimited rice refills), chicken and veggies(carrots, broccoli, and baby corn) on top. mmm good There used to be 3 in the area, one downtown near UF, one in Alachua, and the 75th street location. Downtown UF location closed, Alachua they’ve been trying to sell, 75th is the original location. They have a new location on 34th. But I think the bowls are still better at the 75th location, just a little more chicken on the bowl, and prices seem to be a little higher at the 34th location(probably due to higher rent). Everyone in the family who has been introduced to Maui gets hooked !!
