Closed. Parking lot deserted, «for lease» signs in the windows. Not surprised.

Dainty portions + barbecue is not a good combination. I went for lunch and ordered the smoked turkey plate. I think I got 3 slices of what looked(and tasted) like Boar’s Head deli turkey. The sauces were bland, too.

I was super excited to get a Woody’s in town. About 10 years ago when I lived in Jacksonville, I looked forward to lunch at Woody’s with the boys from the office. The Sloppy Woody was consistently tasty. Well, now a decade later, either my taste buds have changed(not likely), or their creation has been watered down to barely palatable status(most likely). The other 3 folks who accompanied me had equal reactions — this was a step down from the most mediocre BBQ places in town. Not horrible, mind you. Just not very worth your time and money. Sorry Woody, you let us down…

I’ve been to the Woody’s in the Daytona area & liked it fine. Thought it was pretty cool when I saw this one was opening up near where I live. Unfortunately it was a big disappointment. Average food & very very small portions. Sonny’s & Bono’s are both much better.

It would sure be nice to have an authentic southern BBQ place near where I live and I was hoping that’s exactly what we’d get with Woody’s when they opened up, but alas it’s not. The BBQ itself is tame, tepid, with no more taste than you’d get out of a store-bought bottled sauce and the sides are typical, tired, and not at all fresh-tasting. I was hoping for something better than the David’s or Sonny’s on 39th Avenue(neither of which I really like anyways) and if anything Woody’s is worse. That’s not saying much when I have thrown away most of my meal from David’s before. WHY can’t someone do good-quality BBQ in this town? In tiny Bell they have Akin’s BBQ which rocks and here we’re in the largest city for our region and have nothing close to Akin’s quality. Why? Also, I would like to note I had their fried catfish and it tasted like something out of a box. Captain D’s can do better than this! And they don’t serve hushpuppies which really, if you’re going to bother at all with southern fried seafood please have some hushpuppies. And get the blasted fish right while you’re at it. And the BBQ. .. gah.

This chain just opened here in Gainesville and while the food is not bad there are many other places I would rather go. I had the pulled pork sandwich and it did not have that much flavor. They have four different sauces on the table: Sweet; Hot; Mustard and Carolina. None of them were that great, they were just too generic chain tasting to me. The beans were pretty good though. I will probably give them another shot, but then again there are to many other good places to go. A plus is that they have a bar you can sit at with nice TVs to catch a game.
