We ordered the cooks night out. Sides were good except the potato salad. Sliced brisket was flavorless, pulled pork was dry, but ribs were okay. Not so good this time around.

David’s must have changed owners. No more Tues. sandwich special(2 for $). Got a brisket sandwich($ 5+) had 3 — 1 inch by 3 inch slices on a tiny garlic toast. Won’t go back.

Really good BBQ. What you get is fire roasted meat, then lots of bbq sauces on tap you can put on it. The good sides tend to be carby and fried. Not a health food spot. There is always a decent collard green, and a canned green bean. Daily meal specials Monday through Friday are a good value. Always a line at lunch time, but it moves fast, food is up fast, and it’s easy to get in and out.

Never had it before. Ordered togo. Cane fast and it was amazing. Chicken fell right off the bone. Using a fork was pointless it just fell apart. Loved it was the best bbq I’ve had in a long time.

Average(or below) BBQ: not recommended Well, we just had their BBQ again at a catered luncheon after a funeral. Plenty of food, but pricey. The brisket was the worst I’ve every seen or tasted: just beyond bland and boring.(Good brisket should taste somewhat fatty, and should fall apart and/or melt in your mouth. This was like eating tasteless cardboard.) The pulled pork was OK, but just OK. The chicken was dry and dull. The mac & cheese was dull beyond belief, probably the worst I’ve ever had. The Brunswick stew was fairly good, as were the coleslaw, the beans, and the garlic bread. The sauces were OK, but not all that different. In all, this place is not worth the trip or the price. They’re at the bottom of the pack of BBQ joints in my opinion, even while realizing that Gainesville does not have any outstanding BBQ.(I think I’m heading back to Texas).

We drove all the way from Jacksonville, just to have the Pulled Pork with coleslaw on toasted garlic toast. Their baked beans are the perfect accompaniment!

I give it a four because the chopped chicken wasn’t very flavorful, but Damn! I could live off that cornbread. Steak fries are also pretty amazing. Overall a nice meal!

Fast Food BBQ — you go up to the cash register, place your order, and a few minutes later, out it comes. We ordered the Working Person’s Meal — choice of meat, one side, corn bread or garlic toast, and a drink. Our choices were pulled pork for meat — very good! — and one side of cole slaw and one of collard greens, again both on the high side of okay. Meat choices include sliced or pulled pork, sliced brisket, smoked chicken(pieces or pulled), ribs(higher price). Lots of sides. You get your own drink, as much as you want. The tables are stocked with rolls of paper napkins in true BBQ fashion, and there are bins from which you can serve any of their several choices of BBQ sauce. We like the sweet, but the others are good too. Next time I’ll give them the real test — how are they on fried okra.(Did you get that — «next time?» Because yes, there will definitely be a next time — even though I learned my BBQ in western North Carolina and South Texas, I’m already a fan of David’s in Gainesville.)

Really good bbq, some of the best I’ve had in awhile. I had spare ribs, Cole slaw and garlic toast… It’s called the working mans plate. Lots to choose from. They even have Brunswick stew. Haven’t tried that yet. If your in the Gainsville area and you like bbq, go there. Oh and they have pie

Being a Good Olé Southern Boy, I LOVEBBQ and for over 20 years I’ve been getting a good portion of my fix from David’s. A couple of years ago they introduced their Sweet Tea Infused Brisket and now the only problem I have is deciding between the pork or the brisket with the occasional substitution of ribs or turkey. The staff and the prices at David’s are always friendly and when you join their VIP program you have the opportunity to earn points(which equals free meals) effortlessly. Take out or large To Go meals are not a problem and the food quality doesn’t suffer. You might even be surprised to find them at an offsite catering event through your work or other related events and they provide the same great food that they have always been known for. Oh, did I mention breakfast? Whether you’re looking for something quick or their weekend made to order breakfast buffet, it’s a given that you’ll leave full and satisfied.

Sonny’s like prices for slightly lower quality food. Came in around 1:30 — ish and food was definitely from the start of lunch. Tasted old and cold. My sandwich came with coleslaw. I asked for it on the side. I was told that would be 10 cents for the side cup. I asked for it to be on the plate and was told«nope, gotta be in the cup». Paid 10 cents for something I wanted to eat but they were weird about. You can support small businesses or you can pay for something you’ll actually like. Look elsewhere.

I had the special for the day, 2 meats and 2 sides and a drink for 9.99. I chose the sliced pork and the chicken on a bone. The pork was moist and tender and had a great smokey flavor. The chicken was almost as good. The sauces were good, but I like a little more bite to mine. The staff was super friendly, and didn’t mind my indecision at the check out counter even though they were slammed. The person I was with had the ribs and they looked so good I went and ordered a slab for myself to bring home. They were amazing. If in the area stop by and see them I don’t believe you will regret it.

Dang good BBQ and sides of all sorts. People who leave crappy reviews need to give their sissy cell phones a break and speak to the management if your plate wasn’t just like Mommy used to make it. Keep in mind there are a lot of hard working people who have put a lot of time, money and effort into this BBQ restaurant. So when you slam them it hits them all hard. Keep this in mind. Davids BBQ used to serve me great BBQ as far back as 25 years ago and still serving great BBQ. Not an easy task for a restaurant in Gainesville. SO they must be doing something right! I love both locations and have always got great food!

Reasonably priced daily special with 4oz protein, sides and bread. Maybe the drink is included. Dining room and washroom could use a good cleaning.

When I was interning in Gaineville, some of the locals locals referred me to Davids. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the awesome smell of BBQ. The cashier was friendly and I ordered the pulled pork. The Pork was meaty, sweet, tangy, and juicy(Everything you want in a Sandwich). Since my first time there I have gone back many times(enough to fill up two cards to get a free plate). Also, the Sweet tea is FANTASTIC. None of that, watery taste that has a hint of tea and sweetness. No, this sweet tea is, fill your cup with ice and you still get smacked with the sweet sweet taste of tea.

I stopped there last night and had a hankering for some fried chicken tenders. As usual the service is very prompt and very courteous. When I got my chicken tenders I noticed they had two sizes on the menU. They charge $ 899 for three chicken tenders and $ 9.99 for 5 chicken tenders with two sides and cornbread. I got the five chicken tenders for $ 9.99. I got the five chicken tenders for 999 since it makes sense because it’s only a dollar more. I took the order to go. When I got home I noticed that they cooked the chicken tenders in half to cook them faster. Not only did that look like crap but it also made them dried out and tasteless. Plus I could see they came from a box so I was eating basically garbage. I’ve been here a couple of times and their pork sandwiches and barbecue is good just stick with what it is it’s a BBQ joint and not a burger place or a chicken place. I don’t think I’ll ever order the chicken tenders again it was very disappointing and almost made me want to give it a one star.

Great local BBQ and sweet tea! The place is a real dive but the food is the focus and it’s good stuff. They have a breakfast buffet at this location on on the weekend with an omelet bar and all you can eat bacon!
