Beyond Comics

I was looking for some help with recommendations to get back into comics and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable!
I walked out with 2 of the recommended + 1 old faithful (TWD) and a couple free Marvel comics. I wish I went in sooner but this was my first time in. They would have had so much more of my money the last couple years.

I like this place, it is honestly one of the best comic shops in this end of Montgomery County. Good selection of comics, decently organized, and they also have lots of board games.
Why only 3 stars? Not a large selection of older comics… But the bigger issue is space. It looks like they hold Magic the Gathering events on Saturdays (might have been for a prerelease, and not a common event) and the shop was really really hard to navigate, difficult to get to the new issues and other places. I would avoid the place during these events.

Awesome Comic Book Store! I was looking for a fairly obscure comic and they had it! We had hit two other comic shops before hitting this one. The staff was helpful without being creepy and they had plenty of stock. It was worth the drive from Silver Spring to get it. There is a minimum purchase for credit cards. I can’t recall the exact amount but I feel like it was $ 15 or so.

I love this place. Huge inventory, wonderful staff, well organized, great events, etc. If you are looking for something, but can’t remember what, or when, or who, they are willing to help you remember, and find it.
100% the best comic shop I have ever shopped at.

I just moved to Germantown from Frederick and I’m used to the sister location’s great board game collection. I came in here yesterday looking for the Dominion base set (I already have two others in the set but not the original) which is a pretty popular game. I didn’t think I’d have a problem finding it but unlike the Frederick location this location has a very small game selection hidden in the back of the store. I was disappointed and will have to find another game shop but I’m still giving this store 4 stars mainly because the guy working here was so nice and helpful. This location has more of a comic book shop feel than the Frederick location though, lots of boxes in the back to pick through and a good size group of Magic players which I assume is a pretty frequent occurrence.

I can safely say Beyond Comics is the best comic shop I’ve ever visited. Everything was organized and clearly priced. The staff was helpful and polite. The prices were great. I stopped in on my way to D.C. and I will definitely visit again when I’m in the area. They had an amazing and complete selection of trades. Sweet collection of toys and statues from a huge variety of pop culture sources. Highly highly recommended.

Its ok spot, I rather go to big planets. But if you need somewhere to get a quick comic i would go here. They seem to never have the variants I want. Either that or they are holding it for someone else and I have to sit there like a dog starring at a meal not being able to touch it. Some of the guys that work there seems like they have a problem holding comics for you. I went there one time and wanted to buy a 3D cover which was the last one on the shelf. I had no cash and saw nothing else i wanted to purchase I just wanted the 3D cover and the policy is that I couldn’t purchase anything under $ 5 using a credit card. So I told the guy to hold it cause I wanted to get cash from the ATM. He said sure he was going to put it in his box so no one could grab it. Well I came back at least 20 min later and I walked in and saw the comic back on the shelf. I was like really I didn’t even say nothing to the guy and just got my comic. Its seems like this with both beyond comics even the one in Frederick it felt like I was pulling their teeths.

Long story short, I was on a desperate quest to find old copies of Tales from the Crypt… or as it used to be known «Vault of Horror». Yes, I can order them online, but I needed one RIGHT THEN, so I did what any self respecting geek would do… head to the nearest comic book store.
Now, I will admit, it’s been many years since I’ve been in a comic book shop. When your BFF and her husband are actual comic book artists, you really don’t *need* to hit up a shop to get all your geeky goods. Plus, I hit up a billion comic book conventions every year (yeah, I’m one of *those* geeks), so my comic book needs are usually well satisfied.
However, I knew that Beyond Comics was pretty decent, and I knew they had a solid, if not overly extensive back-​issue section.
So I breezed into the shop, and the guy at the counter was über helpful. While they didn’t have *any* TftC comics (neither reprints nor back-​issues), he did guide me to the «horror» section, which alas didn’t have anything close to what I needed. He explained that due to the market and stuff, Beyond Comics really focuses on the superhero stuff and main titles, which is great, and I totally understand (I mean, you gotta sell what the market demands, right?), but it didn’t help me for what I needed.
Still, I’m usually used to getting dismissed as a flakey chick at comic book shops (even though I’ve been reading comics since I was 7, and have thousands upon thousands of books… all double boarded, bagged and snug in their cases that are 6″ above the floor to prevent moisture from damaging any of them), and I appreciated how willing the sales guy was to try to help me and find an alternate solution to what I was looking for.

A safe haven for geeking out. Quiet, browser friendly store for local comic book/​graphic novel lovers.
Knowledgeable, friendly staff, always very helpful. If they don’t have something in stock, they will order it for you. It’s a store for people that love comics, run by people that love comics, and that makes for a more satisfying shopping experience.
Where the hell else am I going to get my Love and Rockets fix?

Well-​stocked shop, friendly service. Good on recommendations for new books, if you ask (they don’t often volunteer). Discount if you sign up for a subscription folder.
