Hunan Cafe

This was a delivery order: Broccoli was over cooked, mush. Same with the imitation crab meat, mush. The lobster was cooked so long it was inedible. We ordered brown rice, an extra dollar, and received white rice. Order was to come at 6:34 and did not get delivered until 7:05 p.m. We can cross this place off our list.

Good food. Fairly fast delivery. Food was hot when delivered.

The food here is pretty good, and the cooking time is quite fast.

If I could rate lower than one star I would, I ordered beef chow foon… the taste is terrible… service is unfriendly they don’t even say thank you when hand over food to me I had to say myself… I will stay away from this place.

Ordered based on Unilocal reviews. Got spring rolls instead of egg rolls and when I called to let them know was told they don’t have «chunky egg rolls». I definitely received veggie spring rolls by accident… just admit the mistake. Rest of the order was ok. Not stellar. Will go back to Hearty’s on Muddy Branch

This is my go to Chinese restaurant based on the fact that it is the best rated one within delivery distance. My first delivery experience was terrible because I ordered online. (I waited 2 hours) I ordered two more times using a phone order instead and it came on time or even early. The food is both good and okay depending on what you order. I love their hot & sour soup $ 1.50, I hate their crabmeat soup as it uses frozen artificial crabmeat for $ 6.55 it’s not worth it. Apart from the crabmeat, the soup itself is good. I liked their Hunan beef dish and Szechuan string beans, but not their scallops with garlic sauce. I’m learning what I like and what I don’t like on their menu. Apart from personal preferences, the quality of the food is good. I think if you figure out your favorite dishes, this place is good staple for Chinese take out. Will be ordering again!

Come to this area on business often and have tried what seems to be just about every Chinese place in the Maryland DC area. This place was actually very good. Had vegetable dumplings, vegetable fried rice, and vegetable rolls. Crispy noodles were fake. Price was decent as most places in this area are too expensive. And was actually overall a good experience which is unusual because I cannot find good Chinese food around here. Will try again.

This is our go to Chinese place. I love the chicken fried rice and white meat general tsos chicken. The Singapore noodles are also flavorful and delicious! I’m not crazy about the dumplings or some of the beef dishes but the other stuff is just so delicious! Delivery is fast and the food is fresh!

Typical American Chinese style food. Good for a cheap lunch. Service is friendly, and quick. Nothing to write home about.

I decided to try this place on a whim based on their Unilocal reviews… and it was satisfying for what its worth. If you’re looking for a quick fix-​this place will do the job… but its not really that spectacular.
I ordered the General Tso lunch special, which comes with fried rice and a small egg roll. The chicken was fresh white meat, but the flavoring of the sauce wasn’t as tasty and savory. The fried rice tasted like plainly cooked brown rice (which probably ended up saving me a few calories anyway). Lastly, the egg roll was kinda greasy and not well seasoned… overall, I wouldn’t go out of my way to order from here.
However, the place itself was clean, my food was ready when I arrived, and the lady who took my order and cashed me out was very polite.

Excellent delivery. Super warm food and fresh. Their general taos chicken is excellent and super fresh. All white meat. Brown rice is delicious and the dumplings are fresh. The delivery man was so respectful and deserved his tip. Definitely ordering from them again!!!

The food is good, good price too. I’ve been here a number of times, and ordered a variety of things off the menu. Obviously family run. I’ve never had a bad experience.

Everything I have tried here is delicious and the customer service is great! I am very picky when it comes to Chinese food, and after trying every other place near my house without finding a good one, I am so glad I discovered Hunan Café. It’s a little further away but definitely worth it.
Only complaint I have is sometimes they are understaffed — once ordered for delivery and it took forever for the guy to get there (but they called to update me on the timing and apologize for the wait so I didn’t mind). This also causes a wait sometimes when you pick up your order for carryout… but you can tell everyone in there is working super hard trying to get it ready (it would be different if employees were just sitting around).
You won’t regret trying this place!

Yuck… the egg roll was good. Yet, the Dumplings and Pad Thai lacked flavor and had a strong oil taste. It was cheap, but I won’t go back.

I was hoping to rate this higher, but alas, I cannot. I stopped by to give this place another try, after a mediocre experience the first time a few years ago. I got the sweet and sour chicken lunch special, which comes with fried rice and an eggroll. $ 7 for lunch, good deal. I got it «to go.» I waited about 10 minutes for my order. When I got home, I found rice, sweet and sour sauce, and chicken — but Uh Oh! No Eggroll! I was really looking forward to trying it.
The chicken was overall pretty good, and the sweet and sour sauce didn’t disappoint. The rice had a good flavor, and there was plenty of food for a lunch portion.
So, adequate — food’s okay, but check your package if you’re taking it «to go!»

I’m sick as a dog and needed soup delivered. I noticed as I looked at the menu that they have all the classics, so I ordered a few of those, too. Wonton soup was pretty standard, nothing crazy. Wasn’t thrilled with the pan fried dumplings– seemed a touch burned. But the lo mein was great, and the lemon chicken was crispy and good, even without the actual lemon sauce (which was provided, just unnecessary).
Delivery was quick-​about 35 minutes after I ordered. I’d order again.

This is a great option for delivery in Montgomery County (unfortunately, they only deliver within a 5 mile radius though). My boyfriend and I got crab rangoon, chicken fried rice, and sesame chicken. Everything was really good and came when it was supposed to. We’ll definitely order here again!

Ordered take-​out from here last week. It was really good. Only thing was that they did not make my order spicy like I specified. :L

i get these cravings. like i’m pregnant. for chinese food. and that’s what drew me to hunan café. that, and it was my birthday.
hunan is a small place, maybe 10 – 15 tables. seems most of their business comes from take out. when i went to order, the lady taking my order seemed a bit confused when i mentioned that my wife wanted extra mixed veggies with her order. she kept saying they couldn’t do it as a side. it may have been a lost in translation moment.
i ordered the orange chicken and the hot & sour soup. the soup did a great job of clearing my sinuses, which is to say it was good. very flavorful and spicy with nice big chunks of tofu.
the orange chicken was good as well, but was fairly average. it was spicy as orange chicken should be, but a bit dry and could have used more sauce. the broccoli was steamed well but was not seasoned.
overall, hunan is a good chinese restaurant. but IMHO not worth going out of your way for. i’m sure i’ll go again. the portions are big. it’s not hard to make 2 meals out of what they serve you. it’s definitely a good value with quick service. i think 5 minutes after we ordered we were digging into our meals.
