I believe if we had better service the experience would have been better, but still not great. What went wrong… Server Mitch. While he was a genuinely nice person, he was not a good server. Appetizer…asked for one of the friend green tomatoes with no cheese for my son. He forgot and brought with. He did fix it by quickly bringing one to make up for it. The sauce had potential but was under seasoned. The tomatoes were good but needed salt. Fried green tomatoes are meant to be salty. Drinks… He forgot to bring my kids drinks. We were eating our entrée when they came, after I asked… 50 mins after they were ordered. Salads… He forgot what dressings we ordered so he brought us two different on the side. Nobody cared for the raspberry vinaigrette. Entrée. We asked to have the entrée for my children split to two plates(steak and shrimp). Upon arrival he said the kitchen wouldn’t do it(he forgot to ask). So we split it ourselves. I ordered the sea bass, I strongly disliked it… It was almost too greasy. It was the sauce on top. The server took it off the bill, I declined ordering something different as he never checked back and my family was done eating. I wasn’t going to make them wait… Perhaps if he had checked back… Dessert… He said he was going to bring the dessert tray, after 15 mins we flagged him down. We agreed to order if it was quick. Also, thanks Unilocal for the free dessert they offered, I showed Mitch the coupon. He still charged us for it. Had to ask him to take it off. We arrived at 730 and did not receive out entrees until 840. Everything took much longer than it should have. We weren’t in a hurry, but it’s annoying to wonder where the server is… And frankly shouldn’t cross my mind during a meal. So, we had a fairly bad experience. Mitch while nice was not meant to be a server. I would not recommend this restaurant not just for that reason… The food was just ok. Nothing anyone at my table would ever crave or rave about. Overall we were disappointed.

Boy did I goof… didn’t check in while I was there so missed the bonus offered. But did have a good experience overall… busy night but they found a prime table for us. Service was excellent. Nice many with lots of choices and food was good.

we received dinner here as a Christmas gift, during galena’s illuminaria event. we arrived a half an hour early and for the heck of it asked if they could fit us in, which they did with a smile. we had the steak and shrimp, which was out of this world. actually, it was the best meal we’ve ever eaten.(and working in hospitality, that is saying quite a lot). everyone was extremely nice, the service, even on such a busy night, was beyond quick and professional. we cannot wait to go back!

It was our first time dining here and we were not disappointed. Beautiful interior and ambiance. Service was fantastic. Started off with the Fried Green Tomatoes and they were wonderful. I had the Chicken Marsala — delicious. My husband had the salmon and he raved about it. Will definitely return next time we are visiting Galena.

Love this place! I had one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Tender, juicy, delicious. I also liked that gluten free items were marked on the regular menu. Great atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back again.

Went here with a group(10) on New Year’s Eve. After reading the reviews on here, I really wasn’t expecting anything fantastic. Boy was I surprised. We started off with some cocktails, our end of the table had the espresso martini(4 of us), Came in a gigantic shaker which our server poured for us at the table and then left the shaker at the table with a little extra :) Bread and salad was our appetizer as it comes with every dinner. The salad was really good, and the raspberry vinaigrette was good, slightly sweet, but very good. The bread was outstanding. A bit hard on the outside and ever so soft on the inside. It has Parmesan cheese on the outside so if you are not a cheese fan, you may want to skip. They bring oil to dip in. I could have been happy with just the bread and salad. My entrée was a filet and lobster stuffed shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes. OMG! Heaven! First time having the lobster stuffed shrimp. It was to die for! Everyone in our group had nothing but positive things to say about our dinner. Our server, Stacy, was fantastic. For having to work New Years Eve, she never showed that she would rather be somewhere else than waiting on a bunch of 40 somethings. She was funny, polite, and very attentive to our whole group. We have been to Galena several times and have always passed by the restaurant, but no more! This will be a must stop on every visit. There is so much more on the menu to try! Thank you so much for making our New Year’s Eve dinner everything(and more) than we hoped for. And thank you Stacy, you were awesome!

A gem in the heart of downtown galena. If you’re looking for a restaurant that’s chock full of history, has delicious food and yummy drinks, this place is for you. It was our 10 year anniversary and we were looking for something special. We found it. Our goal was to try things that we’d never had. For appetizer we had escargot. It was great. The blue cheese whip that accompanied it was the perfect salty pairing. Our waiter was so great. He recommended a perfect beer for the husband and encouraged me to have my first Moscow mule. I sure am glad I did! For dinner, I had the seafood pasta special… crab meat, lobster tail, shrimp and scallops in a spicy garlic oil. I was in heaven. The husband got the porterhouse, his favorite cut for special occasions. It was charcoal grilled. Perfectly cooked and absolutely melt in your mouth. For dessert we went with crème brule which I had never had. Also incredibly delicious. Our bill was less than $ 100 which was so affordable compared to what we’d of paid if we were back at home. You guys, it was intimate and quiet upstairs where we sat. The bar downstairs was beautiful and dark. Highly recommend for a special date night or just a really nice family dinner.

Went with a party of six. Shared the namesake appetizer. Very good but overpriced. Salads were basic but good. The raspberry vinaigrette was tasty but rather sweet. Our group tried various entrees. Lasagna was excellent. Meatloaf was also very good. Lobster ravioli had plenty of lobster, and the shrimp diavolo(Devils shrimp) also got good reviews. Did not try dessert. Atmosphere is warm and attractive. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.

Sat at the Bar and the service was exceptional. Service from multiple servers and the owner. Watched the Cubs game. Ordered appetizers and made a joke about the VFW and their Tombstone pizzas. The next thing you know the owner had a server go to VFW and delivered us pizzas at no charge. They had a cider there, we said it might be a good addition if we added a little Fireball. They did not have it. Next thing you know a server left and came back with some. We wrapped up the evening by sitting down and eating dinner(4 hours after arriving for the Cubs game). Dinner what also excellent. All around what a great day with them and a great memory to bring back home

Nothing spectacular about this place. Steamed mussels: served in long low dish. Attractive, but the mussels cooled quickly; you basically eat cold mussels. They’re usually served in a bowl. Hot. Escargot: horrible. The only thing I tasted was melted blue cheese. They could have put hot dog pieces in there in place of the snails… It would have been the exact dish. Melted blue cheese. House salad: There were caned olives in there. Sweet raspberry salad dressing. Horrible. They cracked some pepper on it … Like it was the restaurant it looked to be. What a joke. $ 34 ribeye steak. How can you ruin a steak? Put some(store bought I’m sure) sweet beef bouillon sauce on it … Horrible. Yeah. It’s a steak, but did you really put something sweet on it? I enjoyed the waiter. The restaurant had a nice feel to it. The bread was excellent. Oh, the bottle of wine we ordered… Screwed off. No cork. I know some wines are stared to do it… But, I’m spending over $ 100 for a table of 2 and I can’t even get a cork.

My mom and I are currently in Galena for a mother daughter fall weekend. I made us reservations for this restaurant months ago after reading the positive reviews. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly. However, our experience was completely overshadowed by our unprofessional and inattentive server. Hannah rushed us in an out of the restaurant and barely paid us any attention. For a meal that cost over $ 80 for two people, I would have hoped to receive better service. We were clearly not a priority for her. We were hoping to enjoy a nice relaxing meal, but she quickly brought us our bill without asking if either of us wanted a refill in our empty wine glasses or if we wanted dessert. I hope the owners realize the impression the rushed attitude of their servers leave on their customers.

My girlfriends and I decided to have a girls weekend in Galena, Ill. thus weekend. During the trolley tour we saw a sign that said ½ price bottles of wine every Friday– so the decision was made of where to go to dinner! Thus is a lively, rustic but very classy restaurant on Main Street in Galena. Filet mignon with lobster mac& cheese was the special– and it WAS special! Carol had chicken piccata and Connie had the filet with asparagus. Service was excellent as was the Coppola red wine we picked out. Just a fabulous dinner!

This seemed to be quite the busy spot in downtown Galena and had a nice feel to it. That is a positive along with the wait staff being pretty nice. I tend to think my wife and I are a bit snooty in not liking this place but ultimately we just didn’t think the quality of the food was anything special, hence the two stars. While the fried green tomatoes were ok, wasn’t amazed. We ordered the chicken piccata which is usually a safe bet, but this was drowning in a heavy almost gravy like sauce. Pretty sure the artichoke hearts were canned. Pretty scant amount of capers. Pretty underwhelming overall. Prefer to try other places before going back. Did enjoy the half price bottles of win though!

In this area, I don’t think you will find too many places with fresher, tastier cuisine, more charming décor and delightful, competent professional staff and servers. Lisa, or server was outstanding and nailed the service for all 11 of us despite us probably driving her nuts with questions, demands, changes and«witty comments» throughout the evening. Our company leadership team of 11 came here for dinner and to a person could not have been more pleased with our experience, including our company’s Executive Chef, who takes his food and related experience pretty seriously. Located along Galena ’ s historic and absolutely charming Main St, this gem of a restaurant is housed in a circa 1830 — 1850 storefront and is restored with original bricks, beams, period fixtures to create a rustic period charm in a comfortable updated setting. The menu is Italian oriented but also has a good selection of American Bistro style dishes that may be infused with hints of Italian flavors, which provides a nice twist to traditional Bistro fare. First, the appetizers. Mussels, shrimp, escargot, Steak Martinis, all delicious. My favorite appetizer was, surprise, surprise, the Fried Green Tomatoes, which were covered with cheese, tomato sauce and I believe Italian bread crumbs and taste almost like an Eggplant parmesean. I don’t eat a lot of bread but dunked a fair amount in the white wine Mussels sauce, which was delicious. Good selection of fresh seafood, Walleye, Salmon, Trout all served in generous portions. I had the Expresso grind crusted Filet Mignon with Garlic mash potatoes and crispy shallots and added sautéed onions which was outstanding Nice selection of wines. The desserts are great. We got a sampler of them all, all were winners from the dense, rich flour less chocolate cake, seasonal berry crème cake, very light and expertly prepared tiramisu. A Unilocal check in got me a free French Silk Ice Cream which also hit the spot. I heard they do a mean Pork Osso Buco in the fall/winter so I may have to find a way to get back for that one. Excellent experience!

My husband and I had a late lunch here on a Saturday and were seated right away. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as soon as we sat down. Our server, Kelly, was very good. My husband ordered the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich and I ordered the Pesto Rustica which is garlic and spinach tortellini with roasted peppers & zucchini tossed with pesto. I have no clue what was on the drink menu as it was a very hot day so we both opted for ice water. The bread came out to the table hot and fresh, covered in Parmesan. They have olive oil at the table which was fantastic with the bread. Yummy! We didn’t get a salad, that must be for the dinners. Both of our meals were fantastic and the service was quick. They also refilled the waters without us asking, a plus in my book. The zucchini was cooked to perfection, not to raw and not overcooked. Just perfect. My husband’s sandwich came with some type of seasoned potato chip on the side. All the service personnel were very friendly and attentive, but it was also not busy at all due to the time of day. I would definitely return.

Came here for dinner for our first anniversary and had a great time! The food was good, not the best, but it was good! The bread was the best part. We started with the mussels which had a weird texture to me but they were still good. My husband had the cedar planked walleye and I had the ribeye. It wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever had but it was good. Add a great pomegranate martini and I was happy!

Honestly, I am very torn by this place. I am a more Metropolitan person and realized I should not rate is based on that scale. The food was quite good and we took the advice of some locals to make a reservation early in the day and it’s worth checking it out. Our server who was very sweet admitted she was quite new, another more senior server picked up on the long delays and was helping out. The only disappointment really was the mac & cheese with Gouda because it seriously had no flavoring, which truly saddened us. I’m not exactly sure what’s going on with the design of the restaurant décor, but that’s again more my personal taste. As a designer I just felt there was a disconnect in what they’re trying to accomplish with ambience.

We were here for two nights and ate at VInny Vinnuchi’s and Fried Green Tomatoes. Vinny won for both ambience and food. Service was good at both. I had a steak at FGT and it was a bit dry and I’m not picky. In returning to Galena we will return to VV but not FGT. It wasn’t bad, just not memorable.

I’ve eaten here with friends and family many times. Large and small groups, by myself at the bar. Friendly welcoming service is what I’ve come to expect. We usually start with the steak martini nothing short of incredible. Chunks of tenderloin mashed potatoes bacon, Blue cheese crumbles and Bourbon gravy. Really don’t leave without trying, it’ll change your life. I’ve tried several different entrées but keep going back to the lasagna. It’s a crowd pleaser. A salad served family style. Don’t get me started on the bread… it’s addictive! After a long day skiing we always over order. Why not? if we ski for 6 – 8 hours we can eat anything we please! There’s only a few places in town on this level. If you find yourself in Galena it’s a must try.
