Worst service ever!!! The waitress was very impatient when taking our drink order. The food was very good. But the service just pissed us off beyond belief. They only had 1 cook but 4 people on the floor. So the food took 30+ min to come out. All the foods came out at separate times and I was never given a soup spoon. Like how am I supposed to eat it, with a teaspoon? The huevos rancheros came with no salsa or tortilla when we complained the waiter was like oh it’s the same salsa on the table. The one one the table is cold. And he brought out a flour tortilla. Just a very bad experience.

Good food, great service, good prices. I’ll definitely be back! I ordered the nachos which were a good sized portion and standard Tex-Mex. The frozen margarita was average but the price was great and quenched my thirst.

Great breakfast, lunch and dinner! Best breakfast tacos on the island! My favorite is 3 Amigos and Pancho and my husband’s is the Pancho Villa plate. Bring your appetite– it’s a lot of food! Friendly service and strong margaritas too!

Food was awesome, enchiladas sauza, mixed fajitas and the poncho villa was the best. …until I found a termite in my plate, and then on my arm, and then noticed they were flying all around. One light fixture was FULL of termites. We notified the waitress who told the owner. He said he’d never noticed them before. I CALLBS!!!

I got the El Dueno plate, and the food was fantastic. Huge portions too, so pretty good value. Service was a little slow is the only reason this wasn’t 5 stars, but I would still recommend a visit.

The food was delicious and definitely 100% Mexican! The rice and beans were definitely homemade style, and so was the asado de puerco and the carne guisada! I am extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, because most of the time all you get is sucky tex-mex food, not Mexican! So if you want REAL Mexican food, this is is the place to come eat at!

My wife and I eat here every time we go to Galveston. We are salsa/hot sauce fanatics and typically I will decide whether I like a mexican food restaurant based on their hot sauce alone. The salsa is served –hot– and is a soupy(well blended) mixture of the typical basic hot sauce ingredients and is complemented by standard restaurant style corn chips — light and not overly salted. I have had both breakfast and lunch here. I usually get the Migas a la Mexicana for breakfast. The house made tortillas come out piping hot with an egg/onion/jalapeño/chip mixture and a side of beans and rice. Combined together in the tortilla with some of the hot sauce and you are set for breakfast. And if you can finish it all and not be hurting, you’re either a teenage boy or an overweight foodie in his/her 40’s because its a LOT of food. For lunch, I have tried the enchiladas — both cheese and beef. The beef is a well seasoned taco meat mixture — some may argue too seasoned, but its ok for me. The cheese enchiladas are just the way I like them and the enchilada gravy is not too overbearing. The rice is a traditional mexican rice and not overly seasoned and the beans tend to be a bit on the loose side, but they are still a good complement when eaten with everything else. The price is really good too and it never seems to be overly crowded when I have been there. It won’t cost you a lot to try it out and you probably won’t be disappointed. Happy Eating!

We walked in for late-lunch/early dinner at 5pm and were the only ones there. Our server was a middle-aged man who was very kind and accommodating. I got the vegetable enchiladas, my sister a Shrimp Diabla(sort of name), my brother; porkchops, and my mom and dad shared a seafood combination soup. As for my food, I thought it was delicious. The corn tortillas was the best part off the whole plate. The flavour really stands out with freshness. The vegetables lacked for me, though; only bell peppers and onions. I wished there were lettuce to it, but overall it was delicious. I would just add that the cheese was a little too salty. I think they added extra salt on top which is why I scraped off the cheese. My dad said his seafood sopas was theee beeeesttt thingg he has ever eaten at a Mexican restaurant; really impressed by it. My sister’s shrimp diabla thing wasn’t super spicy as anticipated, which was perfect. I tasted it and it was great! They also had yummy guacamole; my mom and I kept forking off my bro’s and sis’ plate for it. Fresh avocados! My brother’s porkchop was just very dry; it tasted like it had been sitting for quite a while, waiting to be ordered and then reheated. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been better. Their flour tortillas are the best on the island; huge, thick and delicious. All you could ask for. The décor inside is unique and charming, actually, it is unique inside AND out! we will definitely be back to try this place again!

There was a roach in the salsa. We didn’t find it till we finished our meal. The waiter who was also the owner asked us if we wanted any more salsa… We walked out, fortunately he didn’t charge us. This place should be shut down, offer reviews mention roaches too. Not ok!

We went to eat yesterday, the smell in the restaurant as we walked in, smelled of moth balls and sewer. When we were asked for drinks, we ordered. One coworker ordered water, and when it came out, there was something in the cup. The owner, I think that is who she was, stuck her finger in there to see what it was. She took it back to the kitchen, threw it out, grabbed another cup, scooped ice, and came back. Once again, there was something in the water. Turned out to be a roach. As we got up to walk out, she asked why we were leaving. After we told her, it was like she gave us the OK to leave. Never again will we come to this place. Batting 1.000 for insects in water, not to mention what was not seen in the tea we had.

I was driving around looking for a place to eat. I’m not from the area and it was pretty late. most places were already closing, but gusto was still open. I wasn’t expecting much considering the place wasn’t much to look at. I was so completely wrong! The food was amazing. I tried 3 different dishes and each one was very good. I highly recommend. My only complaint: the beans were obviously canned or frozen or powder, which is quite disappointing for a Mexican restaurant. The tortillas, however, were homemade, a definite thumbs up.

Food was okay, but not spectacular. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. Beef enchiladas did not have much flavor and they were very dry.

This has been my FAVORITE breakfast burrito place for a year. Unfortunately, what ever they were doing the first several months I was going there, has stopped. I have had at least three separate orders to go messed up. When I called, the owner actually asked me to bring in my food, so he could see that it was missing the chorizo that I paid extra for. I did, and because I had to not eat the burrito, I didn’t eat at all before work. All, just to prove that they ripped me off. As if it was my fault, and I had to be punished and not eat breakfast. This wasn’t the first or the last time they have ripped me off. I get the SAME thing every single time that I come in. The only thing that I change is the amount based on my boyfriend or coworkers. Amazingly the price per burrito always seems to change even though it’s the same damn order. It has changed three separate times until I finally said something. Now we have moved out of town but are here as much as possible, because their burritos are just that good, but tonight they ripped us off for the final time. We ordered 4 suprise burritos and added chirozo to all 4. Didn’t get any chirozo(which as happened twice before so I should have learned my damn lesson) and in one of the burritos it was literally just a tortilla with eggs in it. I’ve given them at last 4 chances to make their mistakes right and nothing. Shocker. I guess it’s shame on them the first time, shame on me the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time. It’s a rip off and only great food when you get what you actually order and pay for!!! I will be I’m tomorrow morning to get my money back for their all egg burritos that we paid $ 25 for! Give me a break guys. Run your business right, you have the great food to back it up but lack the consistency and integrity. I did give it two stars because of two things. 1) the food is AMAZING and always fresh. Especially their tortillas. I could live off of them alone. :) 2) all of their staff is sweet as can be, especially the shorter gentleman who has been there for at least 1 ½ years. He always bends over backward for us when we come in and never forgets us. I just wish I remembered his name, but I’ll find it out and edit this review so he gets the MUCHNEEDED recognition that he deserves. I would normally go on between 8 – 9:30am before work and he would always be there and I would often get the breakfast burritos for dinner also, and would come in anytime after 7pm and he was ALWAYS there. If you ask me, I’d say he lives there because he’s always there with a smile :)

Our favorite Mexican food and drinks served by our favorite waiter(Jaime) in our favorite joint in Galveston. Need I say more? But I will… I always get the cheese enchiladas with 2 eggs over easy on top(not on the menu) with a smoking cold Dos Equis with lime and the BESTFULLSIZEDFROZENMARGARITAWITHSALTONTHEISLAND. The rest of the menu is also very good with the spicy lime buffalo wings being pretty special — did I mention that after a long day on the water, the Dos Equis is ALWAYSSMOKIN’ COLD? Convenient location on Broadway with great protected parking or street parking, intimate and casual, good food, fast service with great prices. The only way to top that is with Jaime(pronounced Hymee), the best waiter on the island.

El Gusto Del Pueblo is a great place to go for authentic Mexican food. We walked in and there was one other table seated. Our waitress came over with some waters while we examined the menu. There were many options at a good price. I got the chalupa plate. It was served with beans and rice for $ 7. It was pretty good. After we finished our meals, we waited a good 15 minutes before anyone came to give us a bill. It was lunch break so we were on a tight schedule. By that point we were the only table in the restaurant. I’d go back, but I would hope for a little quicker service.

We called at about 9:15 pm on a Saturday night. The manager said they were closing, but they would stay open for our party of two. We ordered 3 – 4 entrees to make it worth their while. I remember fried whole fish, tamales, enchiladas, and tacos. The food was good, tasty, plentiful, and reasonably priced. The manager behind the counter who was also our server was very accommodating and provided excellent service. He said they could even serve items that were not listed on the menu. Breakfast items can also be served at any time. The restaurant also serves great homemade margaritas and large, thick, homemade flour tortillas.

El Gusto es no me gusta. My fiancée loved his beef enchilada. I didn’t like the«El Gusto» Special I ordered. The plate came with crispy taco, tostada, guacamole, and tamale. The crispy taco shell was soggy and was probably stale. They had put so much cheese on the plate and that was all I can taste. I didn’t even know if I had the tamale on my plate since I didn’t taste it at all. The food had no flavor. The Margarita was good though. It’s only $ 3. I’ll probably will give this restaurant another try.

Fresh off an airplane in Houston, through the hassle of getting a rental car, and then driving directly to Galveston after a long flight(all the way from Michigan!), the first thing that came to my mind was the need for something to eat. Shortly after arriving in Galveston we drove past El Gusto and decided that Mexican food was what the doctor ordered — especially since we were close enough to its home that it should be somewhat authentic. From my experience, El Gusto definitely delivered on this task and with rock bottom prices to boot. When my family and I walked in, we were the only customers so service was extremely generous. The owner(or at least I think it was him) was standing behind the counter and struck up a friendly conversation with us while we ate our food and watched the television. Décor at El Gusto is nothing to write home about, but it had a very homey feel to it… but not so homey that you would want to linger around for too long after your meal. I also remember the complimentary chips and salsa being pretty fair — nothing special but I’ve also definitely had a lot worse. It’s been so long since I’ve been here that I cannot remember what I ordered… but I do know it must have been good, which is why I’m writing this review. If I remembered El Gusto well enough to remember it after all this time, then it’s definitely going to be on my stops on places to hit up when I’m back in Galveston. But, they’re only rockin’ three stars from me because it obviously wasn’t so good that I remember every detail about the experience… just that they were good enough to remember, but not good enough to remember minute details. El Gusto is solid Mexican fare with generous portions and very low prices. That is definitely the bottom line. If you need to switch up your dining experience from all the seafood that is around Galveston and you want to save a few bucks in the process, don’t pass this place up.
