Finally made it out for breakfast the other day! Soooo good! My kid ate her waffle (which is rare) and I had a good breakfast served with even better coffee which seems to be hard to find also! We will definitely be back… And are looking forward to making it in for a lunch special someday!

Awsome food. I had the chicken fried steak with eggs and she had a burger and fries. Service was great. Parked across the small street and the place was hard to find but definitely worth it. Cheap very good food

The staff is sweet and accommodating. The food is the best non seafood in Galveston. Everything was fresh made and tasted like my grandma made it!
Came back in May. Sweet staff remembered us. Food was consistently delish! My son had chicken fried steak and eggs. I can’t believe he finished it. They made fresh corn muffins for us because we can’t eat the biscuits (which are amazing). They made us really good Americanos. Don’t miss this place when you are on the Island!!!

I went there today for breakfast and had the chicken fried steak and banana pudding. It was really good. My buddies had the eye opener and they were really impressed with it. The lunch specials prices were reasonable and they give you a good amount of food. If your a local like i am y’all need to come check this place out and support local small business. The desserts are homemade and awesome.

Awesome find! Breakfast was the best, there was 7 of us and no one had a bad meal. I even had a burger and homemade onion rings for breakfast. Everything was homemade and fresh! Our 4 year old said the sausage was delicious! (And he’s a picky eater)

Great home cooked breakfast with outstanding service. They are open early for breakfast now. I had a mocha and it was delicious too. Highly recommend checking them out for breakfast or lunch.

This place has got the diner vibe down pat. It just feels like home cooking only better. Open a little over a year, I find myself in here at least 3 – 4 times a month. Now that the breakfast hours are running all week long I am super excited! Love the home-​fries, chicken fried steak and delish Frito pies.

The burgers at Mel’s have a homemade quality to them and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. So if you love burgers, this is the best spot on the island. Service is always friendly and the dining area is always clean. Mel’s also offers excellent lunch specials Monday thru Friday.
The fact that its off the beaten path and away from the tourist traps is also a plus!

Can I just say I love the pork chops on Wednesday !!! The down side is I’m Asian and I eat rice with everything and the rice they serve is terrible but the pork chops are great. I didn’t care for the cabbage it is horribly mushy and inedible. The owner says that’s the way she likes it mushy but when you run a business you need to make it how the customers like it.
The burgers are good too but I’m not a fan of their fries. The fries they serve are dry and lack crispness.
Service is always friendly.

Great little place (hidden gem) ! They make homemade steak fingers and they are good. You must go on Wednesday for the pork chops they are yummy. They need to improve the rice and cabbage they serve with it but the chops are good. I’ve tried the burgers and they are really good too. I hope to go back and try their breakfast. Two people can eat very well for under 20.00

The next time I came back, they remembered my complaint about the onion rings and gave me free Pecan Pie! I thought that was really nice of them!

The restaurant is very clean. The food is very good.
The only issue we have is that they advertise a daily special but NEVER have enough. We have gone in three (3) different times at 11:45am, the restaurant is COMPLETELY EMPTY and were told they are out of the special.
I think a restaurant should cook more than just ONE chicken and ONE can of peas if they are going to offer a lunch special.
We MAY NOT return to this restaurant for this reason. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
I would suggest calling at 11:00am to make sure they still have a lunch specail. If not, you can get a Hamburger anywhere in town.
