If I could give this place negative stars, I would give this place a –10 star or even more. First off, really? The owner thought we were dining and ditching when I clearly told her we were going out to talk for a bit because we were full and wanted a break from the food. Second, a fly was in my cup and the waitress didn’t even apologize when I told her and said the fly probably flew in there after I poured my drink. Lol. The food? It’s fresh, but it was whatevers. I was confused about the«All you can ‘it’» menu, so I asked the waitress to explain it, but she didn’t know how to explain. I thought it was like an AYCE kbbq menu, where you could order however much you want and whatever you want from the«all you can it» menu, but naw. It’s basically a set menu with a little bit of each seafood from the«All you can it» menu. Just drive to Redondo Beach and get Korean sashimi there. This place is not worth the price. I used to come here with my fam as a kid, so I wanted to give it a try again, but so, so disappointed.

Although the location and décor screams DIVE!, they have tanks filled with live octopus, abalone and halibut. The service is good and if you want good korean sahimi without going to ktown, this place is a good alternative. For about $ 85, two people will leave STUFFED.

Best quality and freshness ive tasted for a very long time! Came here after work and ordered«alasuh» which means whatever in Korean. They hooked us up so much, the table was never empty. THISPLACEIS A MUST!!!

only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is little expensive and parking sucks. $ 260 w tip for four people ordering combo and 3 bottle of booze. live shrimp, octopus, lobster etc were really good. sashimi was fresh. spicy seafood soup that came with combo was kinda horrible. service was great. seating is limited. around 35 including seats at bar. uploaded menu picture.

I’ve come to cho-mak numerous times as a child and young adult, so I know what it’s supposed to be like. I haven’t been here in years, and things have definitely changed. Most notably, the portions and ingredients have changed. I remember coming to cho-mak, and the meal always started with wonderful fried things, and also an egg-porridge that consisted of salmon roe eggs, a quail eggs, and a lot of sesame oil. This time, no dice. It was a bland rice porridge with no eggs of any kind in it. Big bummer, since from my childhood, this dish was one of my favorites. The number of small dishes that come out has reduced. IDK if the ownership has changed or not… maybe they are adjusting to a new economy. Either way, to me, the dinner was not worth it. The ban-chan they give you is paltry. I just remember the food being more bountiful. It makes me very sad, since this was one of my favorite places to splurge, and back then, a feast would be around $ 150 – 200 for 4 people… depending on how much you drank. These days, it’s $ 200, with half the food and not that much drinking for two. Makes me want to cry. The food quality is not bad BYANYMEANS, so I have to give at least 3 stars… but it’s just not as good as I remember. :*(

I came here waaaay back in the day when a friend was a bartender next door. It isn’t fancy at all; just a nice unassuming place that serves good food. I was introduced to hwedobap(sashimi over rice + korean red sauce) here. Freaking delicious, and refreshing.

Had my first experience with live octopus and lobster. Really gotta try once in your life if you’re a sushi lover. Other things we tried were the sea squirt, sea cucumber, abalone, lobster soup, tuna and salmon sushi and they could not top the live octopus squirming even an hour after

First time here was with some business associates. I thought it was just regular korean food until the plates started coming out. Talk about FRESH!!! They made such and impression that I made a point to bring my friends back there. There were so many good selections that we ended up letting the chef pick and we didn’t regret at all and very reasonable priced for the amount of food that was served. Watching my friends reaction to the moving seafood on our table top to the laughters, I’d bring any one of my friends back if they dare :) The interior was not fantastic but who cares, as long as the food is good. The owner went out of her way to get us drinks that wasn’t even on the menu! How awesome was that?!

I got food poisoning from this place! The last time i was here, the food was good which was why i decided to try it again and plus its near my house. However, the quality and the freshness has gone down a lot. I’m really disappointed. the size of piece sashimi slices are really tiny!(not worth the money) and they give little banchans(side dishes) compared to other korean sashimi places i’ve been too. Iono if its because there business is slow but they need to step it up. the only thing that was okay was the mae won tang(fish soup) everything else was bleh I don’t think i will be coming here anytime soon.

i think i went on a very good day. everything i ate and drank was absolutely perfect. cant tell if it was the people i were with or the food. sashimi was so fresh the fish melted like butter and the beer was so refreshing, just a good day i guess.

This place absolutely *F* sucks. If I could give this a ZERO, I definitely would. This place is absolutely the worst Korean Sashimi place I have been to. I have been here before and it wasn’t this bad. The owner must of changed or something because the way they cut the sashimi(very small pieces) and quality has just gone down tremendously. Thats just one of the things amonst many other problems I had with this place. I will never go back there again. I will even go as far as to talk shit about them, convince all my friends that want to go there not to. Thats how bad of an experience it was. Even my parents who I took out to dinner was amazed how bad it was. Just speachless!!! F this place, never again.

I love this place. Small and intimate. I’ve gotten to know the owner here and she is always super nice and tosses in a few items for free. The sashimi is fresh. the live shrimp and lobster is so fresh, it’s still alive. And nothing finishes off a meal like this better than some mae-oon-tang afterwards. Love this restaurant. It’s a nice treat for the wife and I whenever we feel like going out for sashimi.

I am so utterly disappointed by Chomak. Craving live octopus and Korean style sashimi, I searched Unilocal in search for a restaurant since I don’t know any food crazed Koreans in the area. I ordered the $ 60 live seafood dinner. The meal was filling and very fresh, but the flavor was lacking. For example, while the live ama ebi was jumping around on my plate and pulsating wildly as I wrestled with my chopsticks to bite the body off from the head, the sweetness was missing from the flavor profile. The live octopus tentacles were decent but was cut so small that you lose the affect of fighting with the octopus in your mouth as it sticks to the roof of your mouth or flap ferociously in your mouth as it fights for its life. Sea urchin was a bitter mess; sea squirt was flavorless, and the halibut was rather stringy. What shocked me most, however, was the presentation of the live lobster. The server lost control of the lobster and the lobster ended up on the restaurant floor while fighting for its dear life. She quickly whisked it away and brought it back. I asked her if she brought us a new lobster since I didn’t see the chef fish around the fish tank on the second round. She responded yes but I have a suspicion that they probably just rinsed off the lobster, and it left an awfully bad taste in my mouth. Yet another disappoint was the array of banchans. Korean styled sashimi dinner is notorious for plethora amounts of banchan yet the quality and quantity was lacking. However, I did enjoy one dish out of the many. My favorite dish of the evening was the live sea conch — firm yet chewy, salty yet clean. The $ 60 price tag is more than reasonable for the amount of seafood; however, due to lack of flavor, I would rather take my business elsewhere. So long Chomak.

It’s the place to go if you’re looking for a straight-forward fresh korean sashimi and to experience eating live sea creatures with its body parts still wiggling. The price tag is $ 60 if you’re going for the«omakase» with more than 10 courses. Appetizer, edamame, porridge, uni, oyster, smoked conch, live giant shrimp which later you’ll be served with the deep fried shrimp’s head, oyster, boiled crab(not the raw crab version served @ Ondal’s), sea squirt, deep fried anchovy, sashimi plater(yellowtail, tuna, halibut, salmon, scorpion fish plus one more«mysterious» fish), abalone, sea snail, sea cucumber, live octopus with its still moving tentacles, lobster, clam, smoked conch and the finale is a seafood stew. There are a few facts about this mysterious fish — The lady owner doesn’t know the english name — It’s not a regular fish that they always have — And, it’s a very popular fish among her customers. Wouldn’t you be curious? Any Unilocaler can help? Friendly service, a tiny unassuming place & a great place for an adventurous foodie.

This restaurant serves seafood as fresh as you can get! If you love seafood, especially sashimi, please don’t go to restaurants that serve you frozen fish. It may be a hole in the wall, but the food is so fresh and plentiful. So fresh that our live shrimp tried to escape by jumping off the plate! We ordered a large sashimi plate and it came filled with halibut, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, abalone, etc. We got many side dishes and other small dishes that came to our table throughout the meal, such as oysters, giant clam, grilled fish, some other kind of raw fish, fried anchovies, and more. The spicy fish stew finishes the meal with a warm, happy tummy. Ohhh I’m drooling now as I’m writing this review. If I can afford it, i want to eat there every day.

Went here and tried the $ 60 live seafood dinner. It’s definitely worth it. If you’re into trying different things, this experience is one you shouldn’t miss. The amount of food provided for 2 was enormous, plate after plate of different things just kept coming. I think the menu changes slightly according to availability, but we had live lobster, live shrimp, moving octopus, sashimi, sea squirt, oysters, conchsea urchin, just to name a few. This was by far the most uncomfortable dinner that I have ever had, especially when the shrimp came out and the octopus wouldn’t stop moving even after twenty minutes! Service here is great, the employees don’t speak much english, but this lady(owner maybe) would come by often to check on us and was more than happy in answering our questions about what sauce to use, what each dish was, and how to eat some of the seafood. At the end of the meal is a large stew which they put in the lobster head and claws. Its flavorful and delicious. Brownie points for used all parts of the seafood; our shrimp heads were fried and also served once we tried it raw. For $ 60, this meal is quite a steal considering the massive amounts of food you get, the chance to experience live moving seafood, and the fact that when they say it’s live, it really is very much live. I looked at their main menu and for the price that one order of live seafood may cost, it’s definitely worth it to go this route and try out everything.

This is the place where my husband and i go for«live» seafood. It’s $ 60 per person, and you get almost everything and anything live from the large fish tank. Shrimp, Sea cucumber, Octopus, Abalone and fresh sashimi– either assorted or halibut only. They also serve various side dishes with a large pot of seafood stew to finish your meal at the end. Do not expect a fancy interior. This place has been in business for over 20 years by the same owner with only 8 tables, and nothing changed — especially the quality of food they serve. Thank goodness! Be sure to make a reservation for a large party becuase there is a limited seating.

3.5* Wow, this brought my sashimi eating experience to whole new heights. Many dishes were literally still moving when they were brought to our table. This place is definitely not for the squeamish. My favorites were the lobster, shrimp, oysters, uni and abalone. I came here with just one other person and we got so much raw food that after awhile, we couldn’t take it anymore. Just when we thought we were nearing the end, they brought us a huge platter of sashimi. It got to the point where I was just forcing food down so we weren’t wasting it. You get A LOT of food for the $ 60/per person price tag. So I think compared to other omakase places we’ve been to, this place is a a great value. Including 1 beer and tax and tip, it came out to $ 160 for 2 people. It looks like they gave our 2-person table the same portions as other 4-person tables. So probably the amount of food is more doable in a bigger group. Everything tasted fresh, but I don’t think my stomach could handle all that rawness b/c I had to go to the bathroom several times that night. So just in case, I’m only giving it 3.5* All in all though, that wouldn’t put me off this dining experience. So I think I’d like to come here again as long as we bring a couple more people to chow down with us.

I would give this place 4.5 stars, 5 stars saved for the elite places. But this place is pretty good! We had live octopus, live shrimp, and live lobster, all of which were still moving when it arrived on the plate. The other things we had included oysters, sea squirt, sea cucumber, sea conch, fried anchovies, huge plate of sashimi, steam conch, abalone, some uni+roe in rice, and lobster soup to finish it off. Everything was raw for the most part except for one of the sea conch’s. It was a pretty good deal. $ 60/person. It’s a small little place. You would never know about this place unless you’ve heard about it from someone else. You enter the restaurant from the back where the parking is. The lady server was very nice. Pretty awesome place for fresh live seafood!
