Sushi Boy is a fast food chain that specializes in Sushi. This one is in the mini-food court just adjacent to the flag ship Marukai Gardena store located on the southeast corner of Western & Artesia. At lunch time and near dinner hour, the refrigerated case is stocked with pre-made Edomae(eh doh mah eh) style Nigiri(née ghee ree) Sushi & some Maki(mah kee)/rolls. However, go during the off peak times or if you find they have run out of a specific combinations which they name after famous Japanese cities or prefectures similar to our states, then let the staff know, and they will be happy to accommodate your order. We got there around 4:30pm & took a look in the refrigerated case, but couldn’t find our favorite Nigiri Sushi & Maki Sushi combination called the«To-kyo-» so our congenial Sushi man made two of them to go in about 5 minutes which is fast considering it has 3 pieces of Maguro roll, 3 of Japanese cucumber, one each of Tobiko/flying fish roe, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Maguro/tuna, Ebi/shrimp, Anago/sea eel, Kai/clam which runs to 13 pieces in all for $ 8.99. Good deal, good price. Of course at those prices, you’re not going to get the same hyper quality in such places as Sushi Imai in Gardena, Mako Sushi & Tamon in DTLA, Kimagure in Pasadena, Yotsuya, Go’s Mart, Iki Sushi, Chiba which are all in the San Fernando Valley, also Sushi Sasabune on the Westside. However, considering the bang for the bucks to quality ratio, Sushi Boy would rate favorably. At least 3+ Unilocal stars for all but the most fastidious, gourmet oriented cognoscenti.

This address is not correct. There is no Sushi Boy here or anywhere on this street. And there never has been at this address.

This place had a great deal! 50% discount on their 25th anniversary. $ 14 for 28 pieces of their Salmon Party Tray. Pretty good deal and the sushi was delicious and fresh! I’d come back!(for this deal).

i think something changed because the quality of the fish when i went with my family seemed lower than when we had visited a year ago. considering the quality of the fish, the price is too damn high. not sure what i was expecting, but i know that sometime in late august some of the major dishes will be 50% off(salmon lover, etc) so go there! only then would i suggest sushi boy for decent quality sushi. otherwise, since you’re in the marukai plaza you might as well buy marukai raw fish and go home and cut that up yourself. cheaper, more fish, and fresher. yay!

The sushi is decent for on the go food and the fish is fresh. I always get the assorted nigiri, not the rolls. The salmon roe is tasty and fresh, but the uni is questionable. The restaurant is in a market food court. The food is served in plastic containers, which is not classy at all, especially when eating sushi. Overall, I gave the place a 4⁄5 because the quality of the food is decent.

If you are at the market — and in a hurry — and just need to eat sushi, i guess this place is ok. The rolls are very gimmicky — and the nagri did not present the greatest fish. There is much better food in that market to be had. Not sure why people are so positive.

After shopping around in the Marukai Market ended up making the happy hour. It starts at 2:30pm and goes till 5:30pm! The quality is OK, the main draw is that the sushi is $ 2 for two pieces. Masago, tuna, salmon, arctic clam, inarizushi and shrimp to name a few. Cheap and didn’t give me a belly ache. I think their tuna was the best of what they had to offer, runner up was salmon. It’s a nice snack when you’re on the go. They also had a deal on their soup and inarizushi combo for $ 5. If you can’t be bothered to eat right there they have pre-made boxes avaliable for purchase. If you’re one of the types to eat sushi to be hip, or as a status symbol Sushi Boy is not the place. Located in the mini food court area, it’s quite glamourless and more for the practical working class types.

actually I am a big fan. just cannot put 5 stars in first food. talk about quality/$, it might be the best of bests though. Nigiri, Rolls, all good. I guess the quality of rice is so good and consistent always.

Was craving sushi after work and didnt feel like driving to my favorite spot, so I kind of drove around till I found something that caught my eye. Sushi Boy. The prices are very reasonable. Wish the portion size was bigger, but the price is right. They dont have a huge selection thou. Main reason I came here is I thought they served Philadelphia rolls, they don’t. Instead, I ordered Spicy Tuna Rolls and Salmon Avocado Rolls. They were good. I actually went back a the following week and ordered the same thing. Only thing that would make it better is if the serve Philadelphia rolls.

OMG, this little sushi shop is surprisingly good. The service is quick and courteous as well. They have ready made sushi in the refrigerated section, but you can also order the special rolls as well. I would say that the«Salmon Lovers» plate is great. You get 7 pieces of nigiri sushi, and about 8 pieces of salmon roll. All very tasty and pretty fresh, as sushi should be. They also have the assorted nigiri plate, which has shrimp, salmon, tuna, and fresh water eel(anago). So if you are in the mother ship of all Marukai’s and are in need of some sushi, this is a good place to go. And this year will mark it’s 17th year anniversary for them as well. And they take credit cards as well.

The only Sushi Boy worth going to in the South Bay. All of the others use chemically enhanced fish to look edible and heat their food in BPA plastic. Well, this one does too but the people are super nice! I get better service here than most of the sit-down restaurants I’ve been to.
