Oh man, I finallly found the Kula that has that cool dish disposable and the toy dispenser! I have been searching for this Kula for quite some time now and finally found it last Saturday. Even though it was 106 degrees out, people were still willing to wait outside for sushi. We waited for about 45 mins for two people. Keep in mind that the restaurant is small and that this is a revolving sushi bar. So not all the food will come out instantly unless people order it directly from the touch screen tablet. Once seated, the waiter showed us how the the conveyer belt self service works and how to order on the tablet. We then got our water and thats when we were on our own with our sushi picking. Everything plate here is $ 2.50, unless there’s specific pricing on it. Sadly, a lot of the plates on the conveyer belt are empty. We ended up ordering on the tablet most of the time and waited for the order to shoot right out. After eating, you can dispose your plate in a slot in front of you and the tablet will count how many plates you have eaten. Every 15 plates, you get a free toy that dispenses on top. Every 5 plates, they play this Japanese cartoon. If you are with someone and want that toy, remember to dispose those plates in one slot. I didn’t realize that early enough so both my boyfriend and I disposed our plates in our own slots. I ended up with 4 and he ended up with 10. Boo… but then again, we were missing one plate. We were way too full. The sushi are pretty good. Obviously its not as fresh as those expensive restaurants. Those rolls are pretty good though. They have generous roll portions and I like how they dont over drenched any of the special sauce. The price is pretty cheap and it kept me full all day. I will definitely be back!

I came here with a party of 7 at 3:30pm on a Saturday and there was already a wait list forming. That’s a sign of good«value» for which I voted 5-stars. Note that I am prioritizing value over quality. Service was friendly and attentive. Sushi quality good to excellent for the price. The conveyor belt, electronic ordering and delivery system, and the automated plate tracking system made the experience fun and enjoyable, particularly for the tech and engineering minded. For comparison, buffets are only good value if you are a big eater as the price is the same for everyone. Here, I like that you can choose as much or as little as you want of what you want. The cost is therefore proportional to how much or how little you choose to eat and the quality is far better than that found in a typical Asian buffet. If you are a sushi connoisseur where price is no object and seek only premium quality sushi, this is not your place. If you can enjoy 4 star sushi at a 3 star price, you’ll love this place. The bill for our party of 6 adults 1 child came to only $ 125!

Went back today and the quality of sushi went down. I was pretty disappointed with my meal. However, I’ll still give them 3 stars for the environment. It seems to be always crowded in here. The nigiris were mostly misses but couple of the handrolls were ok.

This place is the first revolving sushi bar. THEYDONOTSETHIGHQUALITYSUSHIHERE. All in all, come here if you want to eat your filling of cheap sushi. Some are great, like the umami oil salmon sushi, but others are meh. You can also order off the screen.

Huge fan of Kula. This one was recently remodeled and I came to check out this location because the one in West LA is being remodeled as well. If you are a sushi snob and expecting high end sushi, then don’t bother coming here. However, if you are looking for a quick sushi fix that is affords then look no more! Only complaint I would have is how long it took to be seated. Came in for the dinner rush at about 7:45pm, waited almost an hour to be seated. Limited seating vs the Kula in west la. However, the new set up is entertaining and convenient. You have your choice of picking sushi from the revolving sushi bar or ordering from the iPad. Orders slide to you on the conveyer belt, which is cool and pretty quick. You get a prize every 15 plates which I found to be fun and entertaining. Servers are extremely friendly here as well.

SUCH A COOLDININGEXPERIENCEHERE!!! You basically come in, sit down and take plates off of the revolving belt. Each plate(green) on the belt is $ 2.25 each and it’s ANY sushi that’s on that green plate! So cool because I’ve been to other revolving sushi bars where each plate was a different price and it was hard to keep track of. AND if you have 15 empty green plates here, you get a free prize from a machine from up above the belt! If you don’t see what you like on the revolving belt, you can also order from their touch-screen device & then the belt will send you your food directly! COOL! As for the actual food, the sushi was delicious! I tried getting the green plates with«more value» to your buck(ex: philly roll vs spider roll… i chose the spider roll!) They also have other Japanese dishes too! Tonkotsu ramen is cheap, but it was okay. Broth tasted more like spicy miso. Crispy chicken was good! For a cheap price, they gave a good amount of it. If you want cheap sushi but a fun dining experience, come here!

Finally, it’s like the one in Japan. It was empty before they remodeled and now there are more business here. Pros: sushi is fresh and doesn’t taste old. Wasabi is real wasabi whereas other sushi places use horseradish which are cheaper. Conveyer belt delivers food to your table. Servers are nice. Animation is entertaining after you place plates in slot. You get toy after 15 plates! Cons: Too expensive. $ 2.25 a plate is ridiculous. $ 2 is fair. Nigiris are cut too thin. it’s just too thin. Nice to come here once in a while but it’s the same experience every time. super expensive sushi and the animation is the same every time you put plates in the slot.

I FOUND A ROACHTHATLANDEDINMYFOOD. I’m so sorry Kula you were my go to place once a week, sometimes more. That roach that crawled out of the dirty plate bin, on to the conveyor belt and then landed in my food was pretty shocking. But what was worse, is that after it was all said and done and asked for my bill you still charged me full price $ 20. Such a small check. I come from the restaurant industry. Why not comp the $ 20, or maybe even just my of two soft drinks or perhaps a small discount. The handling of this incident was shocking. Your staff was very apologetic but charging me after all that happened was a bit like a slap in the face. PS: the roach got away, climbed back into the dirty plate and lives on… oh Kula. I will miss you so much!

Really entertaining especially after the restaurant remodeled. Pretty pricey if compared to places like all you can eat sushi or even nicer quality sushi restaurants. However, it’s interactive and entertaining(eat 15 plates and you get a small prize). I’d probably go there once in a while if I feel like I want to be entertained.

I’ve been to the West LA location and I heard that this location was recently renovated. Unlike the one in West LA, this Kula location is a bit more modern Kaiten sushi setup. They have limited table seating, but ample amount of bar seating. The setup is fun. Basically, you can pick your sushi(or rolls and desserts) from the conveyor belt or, better yet, use the automated menu right above you and your order will automatically«slide» down to you. It’s quite cool and especially fun if you have kids. Although the setup is modern, the quality of sushi was average. I would say the quality is similar to what you find at a grocery store. Acceptable to ease hunger, but not good enough to close your eyes and savor the moment. My favorites were the albacore with ponzu and salmon belly. In addition to sushi, you can order ramen, popcorn shrimp, karaage chicken, and some other bite-size goodies. Once you’re done with your food, drop your used plate down a disc-like tube which is located in front of you. All in all, it’s worth checking out once. But there are plenty of other Kaiten sushi places in the Los Angeles area.

This place has certainly changed plenty since its opening. It’s usually a wait, so plan ahead. There’s a decent amount of parking, but the spots aren’t so accommodating for SUV’s and trucks. Inside, you have two ways to get your food: 1) conveyor belt that goes around and around 2) order off of a touch screen, and it gets sent to you on a belt above the other conveyor belt They have little tidbits and trinkets for eating a certain amount of plates(which they count how many you ate by disposing them through what looks like a trash chute). So it’s a lively environment to take a group out to go eat. The foods range from unimpressive to pretty good(recommend the salmon skin hand roll) but for $ 2.25/plate, who can complain?

Honestly, the sushi here is not the best. With that said, it is a really fun dining experience. The new remodel is so much fun. The sushi is literally zipped across the bar and delivered right to you! It’s preeeetty magical. Eating at Kula is definitely more about the experience than it is about the food. The price is really fair for the quality and portion. At $ 2.25 a plate, it is pretty easy to fill up for less than 10 – 15 a person. The wait time was kind of brutal on a Saturday evening, so I would definitely suggest going at a less popular time. They also offer take-out, but I don’t really see the point of that considering how much fun it is to dine in the restaurant.

The ordering system is so much fun! It was exciting to watch my food zip down the conveyor belt to me. My friend and I ate 15 plates to get a prize. Overall, the nigiri and rolls were okay for the price. I would go for the experience.

I have always wanted to go to a revolving sushi bar. It was pretty neat and when you order something that is not on the conveyor it shoots out like Jetsons style to where you are sitting. It was a bit confusing at first because I met someone and did not get the explanation. So I kept trying to pry the bubble open to get the sushi. Just grab the plate and it opens up. I also told the cashier I accidentally put the miso bottom plate in the slot that counts your plates so I got charged for one extra plate :(That was the only con. I really liked their salmon and miso soup. i ate the fish off the rice so I do wish they had sashimi options so I wouldn’t waste rice. Parking is a bit rough and it was a small place so it got full fast.

They just remodeled their conveyer belts and added tablets at your table to order any item. There is now a second conveyer belt on top of the old one that is where you’ll receive your orders that you’ve placed on the tablets. Food is nearly the same, delicious as usual. The new conveyer belt expedites the order process. There is also a chute at the bottom of your table to put your dirty plates into. Once your plate passes through that chute, it is counted on the tablet. For every 15 plates counted, you automatically get a prize delivered from a track underneath the tablet. This is just a small novelty item like one you would get from a ball in a machine(sushi shaped pen, sushi notepad, phone accessories). Not great prizes but it is fun seeing what you’ll get every 15 plates. Each seat at the bar has an individual tablet while each table has 1 tablet. I am very happy with this renovation and look forward to coming back often.

Holy Cow. This place was great before, but they just finished the upgrade of their conveyor belt. It’s FANTASTIC! Not only that… the sushi is fresh — you can watch it being made through the glass wall the looks into the kitchen. I love this place. Such a good value.

TIP: AVOIDDINNERRUSH! Don’t bother coming in 2 hours before they’re closing because your experience would be ruined. I’ve been on my toes about this place, waiting until they would finally open after their renovation. The interior is amazing! New conveyor belts, new plates, and a new way to order your food. If you manage to get 15 plates you would win a prize! ~~~~~ Service: Their service is spectacular especially if you come in right when they open and mid-afternoon. However, it can be a hit and miss when it’s during lunch/dinner rush and near the time they close. It’s quite obvious that the servers and the kitchen staff are burnt out because the sushi becomes sloppier than ever and the service isn’t as satisfying than usual. As a current server myself, I completely understand and i believe they’re doing a great job. So cut them some slack, don’t expect too much especially when they’re near closing. ~~~~~ Sushi: There are instances when the sushi/sushi rolls are cold especially the rice. I assumed the kitchen staff pre-made them to help them complete orders quicker during the rush. Just a heads up… — Negitoro(2pcs): Unless you like Toro then go for it, but in my opinion the rice ratio is a lot! I guess it’s worth a try. — Seared Scallop w/Mayo(2pcs): Very good! Although the scallop is low quality(what do you expect from a revolving sushi place that serves $ 2.25 a plate), i would totally recommend giving this dish a try. — Yellowtail Nigiri(2pcs): I only order this if i’m craving white fish(Escolar). The taste isn’t exactly the same but it’s close. — Salmon Nigiri in general…(2pcs): Salmon lovers delight! I highly recommend going for the Salmon Belly instead of the regular Salmon because it has a better lining of fat. So good! ~~~~~ Misc./Advice: — Like stated earlier, avoid lunch/dinner rush & near the time when they close. You would wait for over 30mins or so… understand that the waits are going to be longer because the new concept/experience would entice customers to eat some more… trust me — Also they don’t have a set hostess, it’s the servers that manage the name list so their expectation of time isn’t approximately accurate. — Parking can be difficult during the construction that’s going on across Kula! — Accepts Cash/Card

The last time we came the floors were super sticky. It wasn’t crowded but the hostess and server had to talk amongst themselves to see where they would seat us, like nobody wanted to be sat. The guy we ended up with clearly did not want us to be there and was not friendly at all. There were barely any plates on the belt and the fish did not seem fresh– like it was out all day. So we decided to order from our server, which took forever. And then we watched him pull the old rolls off of the belt… Geez. Just like we thought: warm sushi yuck. We had the pleasure of facing towards the kitchen to see the chefs«make» the rolls, but what we actually saw were the guys wiping down stuff in the back and then placing the same dirty rag on the cutting boards!!! No. No. No. We could not get out of here fast enough. Have not been back. Will not be back.

Sushi plates revolve around you on a conveyor belt! Fun! I hadn’t been to a sushi boat restaurant in a loooong time so I was excited. Warning: the place does smell a little fishy upon walking in but you get used to it pretty quickly. My family and I came here for an early supper, a little before 5pm on a Saturday, and there was no wait for the four of us. Sushi and roll quality is eh. Definitely passed on some plates due to unusual coloring(I’m looking at you tuna) or not as fresh looking plates or messy rolls but come on, the plates are $ 2.25 each so some of that is to be expected. I like the fact they don’t use any imitation crab(I can’t stand the stuff) but I do wish their«crunchy» rolls were actually crunchy. Perhaps the rolls had been sitting on the belt for too long. Thankfully, there’s enough selection that you should be able to find enough things you like to get full on. Also, the sushi chefs were happy to make any plate you ask of them. They were very accommodating since my mom was shouting out things that were even on the conveyor belt but they were happy to make for us. Since we came at a less busy time, there didn’t seem to be as much selection. Get the Warabi mochi dessert. Resounding 5⁄5! That thing is delicious. The mochi is so soft(almost melt in your mouth) and I love that nutty toasty powder they put on top. Make sure to ask for the brown sugar sauce in the squeeze tube you can drizzle on top. I would come back for this dessert alone. Restaurant is situated in a plaza next to a 99 cent store so parking is easy to find. Hot tea costs $ 2. Also every plate costs the same which makes for easy bill tallying. They just put less of the item if it’s more costly.

3.5 Stars(if I could) Visited the restaurant during lunch on Wednesday and the place was relatively busy, but we were seated immediately. Unfortunately they don’t take reservations, so I can’t speak for the weekends, but I would say to expect a wait. Their prices are fairly reasonable at $ 2.25 per plate that you pick up off the revolving sushi bar. The real highlight about this place is the RICE. As unusual and unimportant that may be… there’s something about the rice that they use in their sushi that is very soft and well prepared. They also advertise it on their menu that the rice they use is organic and grown in the U.S. Aside from the rice, however, I think the sushi is overall okay… there’s nothing spectacular about the rolls or sushi, but not bad for a quick meal.
