First trip to Garland for the phở. I think the spring roll is even better than the phở.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Yas. Last weekend it was super cold and wet outside. It was the kind of weather that makes Hell sound like a nice vacation. Nothing sounded good except phở. I got on the Unilocal app and after realizing nothing nearby had great ratings, I decided that driving to Garland was necessary. There are some places I will not go out of my way for, and there are others that are. My Tho I will certainly add to the I-will-drive-20-minnutes-to-go-to-there list. I follow the directions and pull into the shopping center it is located in. After getting out of the car, I realize that there are not just one, but like 3 or 4 Vietnamese restaurants in the same complex. It was like a dream come true. I became uncertain about which I should eat at when I realized I had multiple choices. Since My Tho had such good reviews, I figured it was my destiny to eat there. This place wins and wins hard. The phở was awesome. I had all three meats, all of them very very good, and I was incredibly impressed with the brisket. It was tender, tasty, and the fat on it was the good kind that melts in your mouth. The broth had the faint cinnamon action I tend to find in better broth and the details(bean sprouts, lime, cilantro, basil, and jalapenos) were the freshest I have ever had at any restaurant. I also ordered the Imperial Egg Rolls which were also very good. I highly suggest trying them. They do take longer to make so you have to be patient. My Tho takes a little longer than other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been too, but I think this is a testament to the freshness and quality of the food. Sometimes food that comes out too fast is a little suspect in my opinion. Another thing I like about this place is that the menu isn’t too Americanized. Its selections are trim compared to other places, but it seems like a more finely tuned menu with a more authentic offering. The service here is also great. The young man that served my table was friendly, offered menu help if needed, and made a point to check in on us often. All I can say is that I look forward to going back.

Very nice people. The facility itself is more like a take out place than eating in. The food was kind of indifferent. The prices are very reasonable.

I came there last week, around 1pm. The store was not crowded, and there were 3 waiters working. Our waiter was not friendly at all, but rather looked uninterested in helping us. I ordered spring roll and hu tieu for my husband. The spring rolls came out with one of them ripped open. It also tasted like leftover food. Very nasty. Our waiter ignored us the entire time, he didn’t even come back to check on us so we could show him what happened. I know bad food is not his fault but bad service, definitely! Normally I would tip well, or at least 15%. But I made an exception that day. He got none. Tip is earnt, not an obligation.

I had the phở and the hu tieu here. The phở was good, but the hu tieu(dac biet) was excellent! Hu tieu is a pork based noodle soup(in contrast with phở that is beef based noodle soup) filled with chewy noodles, barbecued pork, shrimp, greens, and bits of ground pork, fried shallots, fried pork skin, dried shrimp, and scallions. As for the noodles, you get to choose between the glass noodles and the phở noodles. Glass noodles hold their own flavor whereas phở noodles tend to just absorb all flavors. So whether you want the noodles to have its own flavor is really up to you, but glass noodles came recommended. I’ll have to come back to also try the roasted duck noodle soup. The décor is nice inside — comfortable, modern, and still Vietnamese. It’s a nice change from the bland décor of the Vietnamese places around Walnut Street. Prices are good as well. I’ll be more than happy to return to this place.

The best I’ve had! We ordered the My Tho and Bön Bo Hue and it was soooo good! Freshest ingredients too! This will be our go to Vietnamese restaurant.

As much as I like vietnamese food, I am not completely familiar with what to order. Our server was soo wonderful in explaining the menu to us and suggesting some popular dishes that we might like. I ended up getting the beef sauteed with lemongrass(not sure what the actual name was) over vermacelli. Along with the fish sauce I put on top, my dish had so many yummy flavors going on and I was really happy with how fresh everything tasted. Unfortunately I don’t live in Texas, otherwise I would be back soon to try some of the other delicious sounding menu items! This is a MUSTTRY!

I was very surprised to see this place empty for dinner. We got the hu tieu with the clear noodles and the extra spicy bun bo hue. The hu tieu broth was just the perfect amount of sweet and salty. The pork was of exceptional quality and cut. The bun bo hue was just the right amount of spice and loaded with all of the bun bo hue goodies/meat. The prices and portions were reasonable and the food did not make me feel overloaded. I would definitely come back.

Came to visit Hiep Thai market and got us so hungry. Look up on Unilocal and see many good reviews, so we decide to try this one. Worst service ever. Got us standing in the front for a while without notice. then when we get to the table, they didn’t ask us drink, but already brought water to our table. The food wasn’t good at all. We ordered spicy beef soup and seafood soup with clear noodle. My shrimp are too well done that it tastes so soft. The liver seems old and it’s hard to bite. But the BBQ pork is okay. The other spicy beef soup seems also old because the smell of the beef is bad. They use MSG too much in the soup. The wonton also tastes like yesterday. I used to work at the Asian restaurant, so I can tell whenever the food is old or new. Never come back here again.

I am a social eater. I live in McKinney. The food here is addictive. I made the trek to Garland all by myself to feed my addiction for noodles! The food is always consistently above average and I don’t ever expect good service from an Asian restaurant but you get excellent service here. Noodles and service! What more can a girl ask for?

This is my second time eating here. It’s a small mom and pop type of restaurant so service is a little slow. The food overall is better than most places around here. I wish it was a bit faster with getting the food out.

My Father was born in My Tho, Viet Nam –(My Tho is a small town a couple hours from Saigon) and knows how to cook a delicious bowl of hu tieu so my standards are high for Vietnamese food — well, all Asian food. Both of us ordered bowls of «hu tieu my tho» and they were delicious! The best way to eat hu tieu is with the clear glass noodles. The flavor of their broth was spot on; attention to detail was noted by the jumbo shrimp, crispy shrimp with heads on, and the authentic greens which accompanied the bean sprouts and peppers. The owners are friendly and spoke with us at length. Their framed black & white photos leant a modern and classic ambience to the restaurant. We got two orders of the soy bean drink to go. The soy bean drink is made fresh from scratch!

Just as all the reviews suggested, my boyfriend and I tried the hu tieu here. I got the hu tieu specialty(dac biet) with wontons and clear noodles. Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of the clear noodles and would have been happier with the thin egg noodles. You have 5 options for noodles: 1. clear noodles 2. thick rice noodles 3. thin rice noodles 4. thick egg noodles 5. thin egg noodles. If you’re indecisive, you can mix and match the noodles, but I recommend only getting maximum two at a time. I really like the hu tieu for its mild yet savory flavor, and the hot broth makes it comforting too(like phở!). My boyfriend got the hu tieu kho, which is their specialty and is just like the hu tieu but sans broth. Just like the normal hu tieus, you can choose the type of noodle. For this dish, I recommend the thin egg noodles — it goes best with the sauce. Although it is served without broth, the dish comes with a small bowl of broth that is a perfect complement to the dish and helps you clean your palate. I really enjoyed this dish because it is served with their special sauce that is slightly tangy. I slightly prefer this dish over their hu tieu with the broth, because it was more flavorful and their special sauce is great — slightly tangy and delicious! It reminded me of Indomie, a type of dry ramen found at Asian supermarkets. Prices were fair and service was great! Although I haven’t had hu tieu anywhere else, I do recommend this place if you’re in the mood for some homestyle Asian noodle broth soup.

Had the phở tai… Very tasty broth, good quality cuts of beef. Veggies for phở were fresh… Very good. Don’t confuse with the one at Plano rd and walnut with ‘my tho’ in the name… Not the same and this one is way better!

I love love LOVE their Hu Tieu, by far hands down! That is basically what they are known for. I have tried hu tieu dishes at other places, but this has got to be the best! I could eat 2 bowls if I could! Their Bun Mang Vit(duck bamboo vermicelli soup) is also very good. Whenever I come here, I always order their pennyworth drink with mung bean… delicious!(for those of you who haven’t tried pennyworth before, it kind of has a grassy taste to it, some people may or may not like it. I like it because it is refreshing). They have 2 locations: one in Carrollton and one in Garland. Their food is pretty consistent… go to whichever one is most convenient to you. =)

Best. Phở. Ever. Ahem. This place is pretty small, so you really need to be on the look out for it when you’re driving down walnut. Anyway, I believe I’ve been here 3 – 5 times already. The first time I was with my friends who were visiting from out of state for a week. I tried their Phở for the first time… absolutely delicious. I had it a second time with friends again when we weren’t able to get a seat at the Boiling Crab. Luckily, My Tho was just a mile or two down the same road! We were the only ones in the restaurant that night. The waiter(who I am assuming is the owner?) came over to our table after serving us and told us to try mixing two sauces together(can’t remember the names atm) and dipping our beef into it. It was great! We all chatted for a few minutes before he let us return to eating, but he was verrrry polite! I also had their spicy beef noodle soup when I went in with a group of friends again. GREAT, although I felt embarrassed when I almost on some of the spicy broth. Please remember to drink your soup slowly folks, it’s great, I know, but wow that was embarrassing. Now, I reminded myself to write a review after going by again a few days ago. I wanted to try their duck noodle soup and pickled plum drink. Both were very good, as expected. The server/owner(?) was there again, as usual and was very nice. I always leave a very generous tip for them because of their good food and good service. They may have raised their prices, but I didn’t think anything of it because of how stuffed I get after eating there(and I am never able to finish a whole regular bowl – I don’t know how some of you do it!). Also, I think the price is still right for the amount of food you get. Anyway, 5 stars! Love this place!

I was a little iffy about being the only customers there to eat lunch on a Sunday around noon but everything changed once I ordered my food. I ordered the mi vit tiem which was amazing. The duck was cooked perfectly and pretty much fell of the bone. There isn’t many places that serve this dish so I’m really happy that I got a chance to eat the best in town! I’ve never tried the hu tieu which I will the next time I come. I highly recommend this place!

Food — 5⁄5 Service — 5⁄5 Price — 4⁄5(just recently raised their prices) Atmosphere — 4⁄5 Best Dish: The hu tieu, what else?! I took a freaking long nap today after the baseball game(Go Rangers!), so now my sleeping schedule is probably all jacked up for the week. And I just finished watching tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones(HOLYCRAPLONGLIVETHEKING), so I’m pretty hyped from that to say the least. It’s 3AM and what do I decide to do? I just booked a couple flights to LA and Atlanta for later this summer. Impulse buys: check. Then I youtubed for a minute and checked Instagram a few times. Social media stalking: check. But now I’m writing a Unilocal review. The things I do for Unilocal,I tell ya… Anyways, let’s talk about My Tho. I had bookmarked this restaurant for a good 2 years before I got to try it out last Wednesday. I don’t get to make my way to Richardson/Garland very often, so I am not particularly well versed in all the Vietnamese restaurants the area has to offer. Luckily for me, I just joined the Richardson Rec Center(Huffhines) to volunteer and help out the kids with basketball stuff, and I also play pickup basketball on Saturdays and Wednesdays. This is why I’ve been able to knock out all my bookmarked spots recently, and My Tho did not disappoint. This place is certified fresh. (I also went to Banh Cuon Thang Long the week before) I arrived around 6PM, still dressed in my work clothes, and the restaurant was completely empty. When I walked in, she knew I was there alone. Table for 1 please. Sad story bro. I ordered the restaurant’s staple entrée — my tho hu tieu dac biet — that’s a fancy way of saying the house special. Hu Tieu is a Vietnamese noodle soup, which uses pork broth/base. I got mine with clear noodles, but you can ask for rice noodles(same as what you would find in phở) or egg noodles. The soup also comes with thin slices of pork, a couple pieces of shrimp, onions, and fried shallots. To put it simply, the construction of the dish just fits perfectly. I added no sauce or sriracha or anything else to it. The more I grow older, the more I appreciate the intricacies and all the ingredients that are involved in preparing a Vietnamese noodle soup. All the flavors are surprisingly really complex. I took it for granted growing up, but now I know, and knowing is half the battle. I will definitely return to My Tho again in the near future to try out other variations of their hu tieu. I realize this review consisted of 25% food stuff and 75% of me blabbering on. With that being said, you’re welcome.

My Tho Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant in Garland that specializes in Hu Tieu, which is a pork broth noodle soup. If you want to experience a true Vietnamese Hu Tieu dish, My Tho is the best in DFW. My Overall Rating — 4 Stars(Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere — My Tho is located in a small strip, and if you don’t look hard enough you may miss it. Inside you’ll find a large open dining area with nice wooden tables and chairs. It’s a bit plain though, other than the tables and chairs there’s not much in terms of décor. I’m don’t come here for the atmosphere but in the grand scheme of things it matters. At least it’s super clean. ½ Star. Service — Service here has always been good. You’re quickly greeted and are directed to a table. They like to take your order fast and the food comes out almost just as fast. The staff is friendly and quick. Now, normally I won’t need a drink refill because I like the hu tieu(more below) but note you normally have to flag someone down. Other than that the folks here are great. 1 Star. Food — Come to My Tho for the hu tieu. This is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup that has glass noodles, thin slices or roast or Chinese style BBQ pork, shrimp, spring onions, and fried shallots(for texture) in a pork broth. I like describing the dish, because My Tho does such a masterful job of creating a well-balanced(not too salty/oily) broth whose flavors are enhanced by all additional ingredients. Furthermore, the glass noodles hold up better vs. phở noodles and hold their own flavor vs. phở noodles which tend to just absorb all flavors. My Tho has some other good dishes like their grilled pork dishes(rice or noodles), but honestly if I’m here I’m ordering the hu tieu. 1 ½ Stars. Will I Return? — Yes. Like many Vietnamese restaurants in DFW, My Tho does one thing exceptionally well(hu tieu), others pretty good(grilled pork), and everything else is ok. I hit up My Tho at least once every 5 weeks as it’s in my monthly rotation. If you’ve never had hu tieu before, come here. 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.
