Loved Loved Loved this place! Its was perfect for our getaway weekend, not such a long drive from home and far enough to not worry about anything! We walked to the beach, walked around the golf course, and grounds. The food(as always for McMenamins) was great as always. The hotel manager was wonderful, she managed all of our needs and made the weekend stress free. We are planning on making this an annual getaway for us.

Great environment, service and food. Overall was very satisfied. I had a salad with chicken and a side of tots. Can’t go wrong!

Update: Got a very nice message from the General Manager assuring me that we were not given the entrée sized salad that we had ordered and a kind offer to make it right. Because of this, we will give them another shot the next time we are in town. I still think their prices are a little high, but due to the touristy nature of the area I do understand why.

It is a McMenamins, so I didn’t expect much. However the service was slow and rude. The red wine is marginal, Edgefield brand. Next time I will find an alternative when visiting Gearhart.

My wife and I ate breakfast after staying the night in the hotel. I ordered a biscuit and gravy, which I was told was 2 biscuits for $ 9.50. I got one hard, tough, and overcooked biscuit smothered in some bacon filled gravy. My wife ordered pancakes which were rubbery and chewy for $ 8.50. We thought maybe the higher priced breakfast would mean higher quality food than the evening pub food, but we were wrong. You’re better off exploring a nearby town to find breakfast.

Go here if you have lots of time to sit and visit. Food was fair to good, service was slow at best. Wife got complimentary wine because of the slowness. I have been to better McMinnimins

When our planned destination for breakfast on a Sunday morning was closed, we noticed a billboard on Highway 101 for this local McMenamins hotel and pub that we had driven by many times without any consideration. I have always appreciated the quality of the brothers many renovations to historic buildings more than their subsequent presentation of food and drink… until now. The breakfast menu offers the traditional fare of pancakes(some even topped with berries and whipped cream), omelets, variety of eggs benedict, plus a special of the day which today was a smoked salmon scramble. We both opted for the sand trap which is your choice of eggs cooked any style, bacon, homemade sausage or vegan sausage, country fried potatoes and choice of toast. I opted for my eggs over easy, homemade sausage and an english muffin. I always plop my eggs onto my potatoes and mix them up along with a healthy dose of pepper. These eggs were prepared perfect! The two sausage patties were hot, showed grill marks and seasoned to a level that warmed me all the way down in the belly as I swallowed each scrumptious bite. Her choice of vegan sausage was also delicious and she mentioned it had the taste and texture of my pork. I slathered the toasted english muffin with a generous portion of huckleberry jam, chomped in and found heaven while overlooking the Gearhart golf course on a glorious sunny day. Table service was friendly and attentive while always keeping our black coffee to the brim. Sure glad my preconceived ideas about McMenamins didn’t keep me from this experience!

I love McMenamin’s. But I won’t be back here, even though it’s a 30 second walk from my condo across the street, where I’m staying for the next 5 days. My breakfast was okay, not awesome, not horrible. My issue is with the manager of the hotel/pub. He literally sat two tables away, with his laptop out, talking on his cell phone. He was ordering equipment for the restaurant. When not on his phone, he casually dropped a number of F-bombs in loud conversation with what I assume was some of his staff. I could not believe he would sit there and talk like that. Go in the back, go to your office, go outside. But don’t sit there and ruin it for everyone like that. We are your guests — your customers, and should be treated better than that.

They did a great job! Got married in the Livingston Room due to horrible weather. Hosted 60 people for the whole weekend and everyone was very impressed. Staying, playing golf, and eating here was amazing! My new husband and I could not have asked for a better place and staff to have for our special weekend. Thanks, Melodee and Tory! :)

Obviously the servers are over the whole Passport game. Its like they see you coming and run the other way. So if you get a stamp after waiting for 10 workers to pretend they didn’t see you, enjoy the cheesy prize that is getting worse at more passports are played.

Well, glad I am not the lone wolf in bad experiences here! We drove out to do some Passporting… almost a 2 hour drive, just for dinner and to check this property off the book. There was a warm greeting at the door, so we thought this must be the place where happy people come to hang out. We finished up our stamping and sat down in the Sand Trap Pub. Our server came over in about 5 minutes and took our drink order. About 10 minutes later he came and took our food order… and then our food came, yes, before the drinks! Then we found something that shouldn’t be in the hummus plate and sent it back. Out came a new one, with the explanation that it was a old french fry in the hummus. What, two hummus plates and STILL no drinks? He said the bar was backed up and he wasn’t sure what was taking so long. Finally the drinks come, Hubby ordered a raspberry mojito, and I ordered the Aval Palmer with light ice.(I don’t do the light ice because I am one of ‘those’ gals, I do it because I had a little run in with cancer in my throat and the cold hurts) As I look at my drink, I notice it is the wrong drink, they have brought me the Aval Punch… which is not something I would drink. Problem solved, Hubby will switch me. Afterall, who wants to wait another 30 minutes to get this issue fixed! As a courtesy, I tell the server that they brought out the wrong drink… thinking that maybe it was ordered incorrectly… and he ARGUES with me, telling me that it is exactly what I ordered. UHHELLO, do you not see the spices on the drink. Whatever, we switched and dealt with it outselves, but now I want to do nothing but leave. While we finish up the drinks and hummus, the folks behind us find hair… MULTIPLE hairs in their food. ICK! We finally get our bill and I ask another server if they would please send over a manager. So OUR server comes over and says he is ‘one’ of the managers and what could he do for us. *seriously?* I told him I would like a Different manager. Finally a nice lady comes over and I just point at the drink and ask her what it is.(having the bill in my hand, that is already paid, with the correct drink listed) She confirms that it was the wrong drink and tells me that there was training going on in the bar, and she will take care of the bill. FREE doesn’t make what just happened ok. We paid the bill and left a tip, although far below a normal tip. What is going on here guys? The kitchen is obviously needing some help. Two blatant violations in the span of 10 minutes says there is a major issue. The wait staff arguing with customers is an ok practice? Not ever! The only reason we would venture to this property again is if we were in town needing a stamp on our next passport. And, what a shame, this property is beautiful, warm and inviting. Time wasted: 5 hours!

This place was awesome. I was with my husband and daughter and it was in the evening on a weeknight. We went to the downstairs bar. It was totally empty & the bartender was super friendly. He went outside and stated a fire for us in throat door fireplace. Kids are only allowed on one side of the bar so when the wind kicked up, we moved to inside and she sat on one side of the bar while we at on the other side looking at her — she was context reading her book and the bartender was fine with it too.

Fun to see all the photos n pics around the place. Clean rooms, comfortable. Food good especially the clam chowder, Sand Trap burger, crab cakes(less onion would have been the best ever), breakfast the sauté razor clams for breakfast were 5 star!

On our way north along 101 we notice two large billboards advertising McMenamins in Gearheart. The last billboard marked 2 miles ahead… just passed Seaside, almost there ! It was a long two miles since we passed the turn. Onto Astoria we continued to return the next day to figured out how we missed it. After the billboard advertisements the only other sign was at Gearhart Ln off Hwy 101. A very small sign and easy to miss. Wanting to see a McMenamins we have never been to but already having lunch elsewhere, we decided to go lite with the Steamer Clams. My husband ordered a Ruby and I had the Seasonal Pomegranate Cider. The pound of Steamer Clams hit the spot especially since it came with half a loaf of warm grilled sourdough bread. Arriving after 2 with the lunch rush was just ending and without waiting, we were greeted and seated at a corner window table. Our server was friendly and brought our drinks and food in a timely manner.

We came in for happy hour after checking into our hotel. My friend had got a package deal that came with two taster trays. We each ordered one and the bartender told us we could pick which beers we wanted instead of doing the standards. We started deciding which ones we wanted and it had only literally been a few seconds before the bartender was back telling us that if we didn’t hurry up, she would just start pouring us the standards. We hurried up and decided on our beers. We ordered somethings from the happy hour menu and it came pretty quick. In the morning we had breakfast. Our server was nice, we had to get her attention to order and again for our check, but other than that the food was yummy and came out pretty quick. I like being able to look out over the golf course. The patio is nice too on warmer days.

One star for a McMenamins?! Lemme explain… Came here with my fiancé and both our sets of parents for lunch this past summer. The food here… GREAT! 4 stars… my Oyster Po’ Boy was delicious, despite the roll being slightly on the stale side. If the roll was a little more fresh, that would’ve helped bump up a half star. Another half star loss, was because our Cajun tots were overly cooked and lacked the Cajun-ness we’re used to from McMenamins. But overall, food was still pretty damn good and up to the McMenamins standards that we’re used to. Our waitress(I’m sorry I don’t remember your name!!) was great. She was very busy on the patio and put up with out party of six talking to each other while she was trying to give us specials and take our drink orders. If I could give her her own star rating, she’d get at least 3.5 or 4 stars for being so patient, courteous, friendly, and getting or order right. But she was still pretty busy and kept forgetting to refill our waters and drinks… no fault of hers for being super busy on the patio and having very minimal help. Which brings me to why I have to give this place one star. Working there was a gentleman… scratch that… a man, who was just plain unpleasant. He greeted us, helped us put two tables together for our party of six. We were sitting directly in the sun and asked if he could bring some umbrellas for our tables. He pointed in the direction where the umbrellas were and told us grab them ourselves. But when we put them into the tables, he then got annoyed with us, told us we couldn’t put two umbrella tables directly next to each other and told us we would have to all split up between the two tables if all wanted to be under an umbrella. I guess he should’ve told us that in the first place so we didnt have to annoy him so terribly! We ended up splitting up our party between the two tables. No biggie. But wait, it gets better. When we’d finished lunch and were ready for the bill, our busy waitress was running around the patio all by herself trying, to make sure all her guests were getting taken care of. She disappeared for a moment(probably to get someone’s food order). Man strolled by our table and when asked if he could bring us our bill, he flat out tells us, «I’m not the patio guy. You need to ask your waitress when you see her» and zips off. His attitude was absolutely atrocious! There was minimal business indoors because all the business was out on the patio. What could he have possibly been too busy with that he couldn’t be a team player and assist his co-worker on the patio!!! I love you, McMenamins! I love how you are able to breathe in new life to old establishments that you take over! Your menus are great and food is always deeeeeelicious! But sadly, this is one place I just don’t really want to come back to again because of one single sourpuss. I might, though, because it IS a McMenamins and one of very few great lunch spots on that stretch of the Oregen Coast. But if Not-the-Patio Guy is still there, I definitely will not be staying.

The Sand Trap Pub is a great way to spend the afternoon after coming back from the beach. It’s worth going to at least walk around, there is also a cozy, old-fashion downstairs bar. Sitting outside on the deck overlooking the golf course is relaxing and scenic. The service is good and happy hour(4−6pm) is great deal, a good selection of food items to pick from. I recommend the burger, cajon tots, mussels and caesar salad. The beer selection is awesome and they also offer ciders and gluten free options. They regularly have outdoor events, weddings and social gatherings. Always something going on!

If you’re hanging out in Seaside and looking for a tasty cocktail, this is your place. If you’re looking to be completely ignored throughout the property by multiple servers, and then once you order they put your order in wrong and then never check back and then once you’ve been waiting around with empty plates and pints and realize no one is coming, and you personally getup and seek out your server(or anybody for that matter) for the check… then this is your place. Service was atrocious. I’m talking beyond the unfortunate«normal» ignoring you receive at many McMenamins establishments. My advice would be to sit directly at the bar if you want communcation and/or customer service. I’m okay if the servers is swamped but at least acknowledge me. Don’t go and clean tables, gossip with a fellow server or act like you’re something like shuffled paperwork because you dont want to stamp my passport or take my order. As I said above, it happened property wide which shows lack of proper training and management involvement. Fairly disappointing as we only traveled here for our passport stamps.

Worst. McMenamin’s. Experience. Ever. Gorgeous building, but the wait staff wouldn’t leave us the F@*k alone. She asked us how everything was no less than 6 times. The worst was when she asked us how our burgers were before we’d even had a chance to take a single bite between us. After the amazing margaritas at CPR, I challenged the bartender to make me a great one. By the end of dinner, I’d barely sipped it. When my boyfriend asked me why I wasn’t drinking it, I told him I couldn’t get to the drink because of all of the ice so he passed me his water glass to pour off the ice. By the time I was done, there was less than a third of a glass of drink & without the ice, the poor taste of the drink was evident. Oh and they even ruined the cajun tots. Wtf?
