Zachary the GM is amazing at his job and impressed us on our first visit to the restaurant. Their drinks are heavenly, food yummy and the ambience is impeccable! Love it!

I’ve been coming here for years. I am a fan of the Tacos with hand rolled flour tortillas. I’ve gone several times. I’m glad that they are open for lunch again. I went on a beautiful Saturday with a friend for lunch recently. We asked if we could have a window seat, BECAUSEITWASBEAUTIFULOUTSIDE, but that section was CLOSED. The food was delicious, as always, the service was slow, as always, but my friend ordered coffee and was blown away by the presentation. I go expecting the service to be slow, and I’m usually not disappointed. But if your location is ADJACENT to the SANGABRIELRIVER, OPENTHESECTION next to the freakin river. HUH?

Both of our dining experiences here have been excellent. One was a sit down dinner, the other was enjoying the deck outside the bar. In both cases the food and service was excellent. The food is modern Mexican. Not greasy comfort food, but rather Mexican influenced with fresh ingredients and interesting combinations. For example, the guacamole was sweet, with chunks of tomato, and topped with roasted pumpkin seeds, and a few grapes and pineapple on the side. The chips and salsas are delicious. One is spicier with fresh tomato and the other is a roasted tomato and pepper. Yummy. The chips and tortillas are a cut above as well. Fried avocado was excellent, made with a firmer fruit that can stand up to the frying. The meatballs have a chili powder spice to them. We liked them, the kids not so much. Love this place. House margarita(4 bucks!!!) is so nice. Oh, and it was fine to have the kids run around on the deck. I think I’ll move to Georgetown. :)

The food here is great! Try the grilled carne with chimichurri, it won’t disappoint! The drinks here are phenomenal as is the ambiance! Try a Mexican martini!

I am like most of the reviewers on here. I’m a local, love the Monument Café and Market, and I so want to love the beautiful El Monumento. Since its opening I’ve visited many times. It took me a lot of tries to find a dish I loved — the chicken enchiladas, and the French press coffee — oh how I miss them. Like so many, I too found the inconsistencies in the menu, food, and service. I am still saddened to see this restaurant is not open during the week for lunch. It was a perfect place to have a meal on the patio and enjoy views of the San Gabriel. A great place to gather with friends or an informal business lunch or just on my own with a good book. Since the business hours changed I haven’t returned. I could go in the evenings with my family or at the weekend, but it just doesn’t strike me as a young family friendly environment during these hours. And I’m not sure the happy hour crowd would appreciate us. :) and that’s ok too, I totally get it! I just really want to be able to come back and enjoy my lunch time spot again. Please listen to our reviews. This place has so much potential! I truly want to give a 5 star review one day.

We usually have a nice dining experience at El Monumento but today was not one of them. Once seated we waited too long for our drinks and chips. We found a wad of Wet paper in our bowl of chips. My fork had dried food on it, waitress brought me a new fork and it too had dried food on it. My husbands beef tacos were so spicy he couldn’t finish them. Never got refills on our drinks, and could never find the waitress to ask. Waitress brought our check but never returned to pick up our payment. The table next to us was also waiting for the same waitress but she was no where to be found. So we waited and waited… Just Very disappointed with the whole lunch. We won’t be going back for awhile.

It was decent though a bit pricey… my wife had tacos with steak and I had enchiladas… They never brought my beans and rice which I had to ask for and they never ever brought my wife’s rice, fortunately there was enough of mine to provide to her… you get a choice of whole black beans, smashed/refried style or whole charro beans… first they brought me the wrong kind and then quickly changed to the correct one… $ 14 for an enchilada plate was a bit pricey compared to what I can get elsewhere… I also was not impressed with the taste — just OK… The place itself is real nice… just not nice enough to get me to return at this quality and prices…

Horrible service. We started with a waitress that didn’t know what a margarita had in it. Then waited 10 minutes for chips and water. Which never came The assistant manager and GM are just as ignorant. With such a beautiful restaurant one could only hope for great service. GM came to apologize and that was just air. We never saw him again. What a horrible time. Don’t waste your time. Food sucked anyways. Kenny G

Came here for drinks and an app and was more impressed with the patio and scenery than the app or drinks we ordered. The patio here is gorgeous with great view, but your view is definitely dependent upon where you are sat, if you don’t get the primo seating you will have the view obstructed by other people or the table umbrellas. We were sat quickly and without reservation on an early Sunday afternoon, so that was nice. Our waiter was average, but forgot the lime I requested for my water… twice. We also ended up not ordering a second round of drinks because he kind of seemed to forget we were there until we finally flagged him down for the check. The chips and queso was decent, but nothing amazing or incredible to specifically come here for. The Margs were also the same. If I am ever in the GTown area again, I may come back to check out their happy hour specials and maybe have something substantial from their menu, but otherwise, it was pretty run of the mill with an otherwise nice view of the San Gabriel River. Just a note, they do have a dedicated lot, but I can see where it will overflow if they ever get busy, but there is some nearby street parking that shouldn’t be a problem if it does.
