Henry Moving Company

Was told it’s be $ 220 for the first two hours ($ 40 for 4^th floor, $ 60 for fuel cost) then it’d be $ 60 an hour flat after that. When it came down to the bill for 7 hours it should have been $ 520. The owner wanted $ 600 flat. I asked where the extra $ 80 came from and he said because we moved a heavy filing cabinet from the basement, there was an extra charge for heavy items (damn filing cabinet was NOT 300lb). He even said, «I already didn’t charge you for moving the fridge. Apparently there’s an extra charge for moving appliances too! At no point did the movers or Henry tell me there’s be an extra charge for these items. Had they done so, I would’ve told them not to move it.
Icing on the cake? I helped them move that supposed 300lb cabinet. Their second mover looked like he was about to pass out. When I was complaining about the recovered charge to the manager he was rude and even cut me off half way and put me on hold. Plan ahead and do NOT use Henry Moving Service ever!!!

Do not hire this company!!! They will cheat you out of your money and when you complain to the owner he does nothing!
The movers took 2.5 hrs to move me but charged me for 3 hrs. Then they added their on $ 20 tip to the total without consulting me. The driver told his boss I lived on the 3^rd floor so they charged me an extra $ 20 — my building only has 2 floors. Also after they left I saw some of my belongings still sitting outside from where they forgot them.
When I spoke to the owner he instructed them to give me my money back but instead they sent me text messages telling me the $ 20 could be their tip. They have since refused to give me the money back. When I reached back out to the owner he stated that he was too busy to help me and that’s an issue that I need to take up with them. This company will cheat you. E days later and I still dont have my money. Don’t use them!!! Beware!!!
This «business» is anything but professional. Don’t trust them and don’t use them.

I would not use these movers. I scheduled my move for 12PM and they did not show up until 1:30PM. They are not reliable. They also would not give me a discount for waiting for an hour and a half. Do not use them! They are unprofessional and should be shut down.

CAUTION!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I would give 0 stars if I could. I wish I would have read Unilocal before using Henry Moving Company. My first experience with them was in September 2014 and everything went great. Fast forward to November 2015. Not only were the 2 movers slow, but one of them stole three pairs of my husband’s Jordans! Who does that? When I brought the issue to Henry, he basically said it is our word against his guys and not to be an asshole, but there is nothing he can do about it since they denied taking the shoes. But what person is going to actually admit doing that? Henry had a bunch of very lame excuses as to why he wasn’t liable. I finally gave up trying to have a civil adult conversation with him and told him I will see him in court. We certainly will be suing him in small claims– even if we lose, it is the principle. How can one run a business that rests on no laurels or have any moral standing? Run… do not give this business your hard earned money. Learn from my horrible experience.

NOT worth the stress. Pay a little more $ and get reliable, trustworthy service.
Had a HORRIBLE experience. Henry is a scam artist and, like others have said, there was A LOT of miscommunication between him, the movers, and us… ending with them trying to charge more $ than we owed (even if the service was perfect) which lead to an unproductive yelling match between all parties. Moving is stressful enough, DO NOT take the risk of adding stress with this horrible moving company.
Among our top issues:
–The movers arrived 2.5 hours late (after we had confirmed with Henry that morning that they would be on time). And they did not accept responsibility for showing up late– throughout the day the excuse for why they were late changed multiple times, sounds like it was rooted in miscommunication and bad direction from Henry.
–The movers didn’t even have a hand cart or any tools for moving and seemed to be inexperienced with the process and driving the truck in the city.
–The truck was small and not packed well so not everything fit, which meant we had to rent a UHaul on our own to finish the job. SO ANNOYING, especially since the movers didn’t take our direction to load the big stuff first so we could fit small boxes in our car if need be.
–The movers spent a lot of time making excuses (e.g., the bed doesn’t fit in the elevator even though it was moved in via elevator and ended up being moved out that way too) and they worked slowly to load so we missed the window reserved for the loading dock at the new building.
–The movers broke some glass items and blamed it on the box.
–They had blankets in the truck but must not have used them because our furniture is full of black marks, dings, and scratches.
–The movers created a mess in the new apartment marking up the walls and floors, and carelessly piling everything in the living room– ignoring clear box labels and obvious stuff like dressers go in the bedroom.
–After all that (and more) they wanted to charge more $ than we would have owed even if the service was perfect– saying they were working for 1.5 more hours than they were– a blatant lie!

The movers damaged my TV, they admitted to damaging my TV, the owner pretended to be in negotiation with me to resolve the issue then avoided all my communication after a week. The issue is still open and has not been resolved.

I’ve used them more than once and there’s some good and a bit of bad when it comes to using movers at this price. Each time I moved, I needed a quick, cheap 1 br deal… nothing too serious. Usually it’s between these guys or someone that will charge me much much more to move a one bedroom apartment, so I chose Henry’s Moving Company.
My main issue is with the owner. Each time we moved, there seemed to be a miscommunication between him, us, and his movers.
On our most recent move, our movers showed up without a simple wrench to take apart our bed. It wasn’t a big deal. Ours was already packed up somewhere in a slew of boxes that were already in the truck. Since a home depot was nearby, my boyfriend (who facilitated the move while I was at work), went to the Home depot to purchase a wrench, which would’ve been quicker than trying to find ours.
The moment I found out this happened, I spoke to Henry about it. I called him and told him that apparently his movers showed up without a wrench and that my boyfriend was going to buy one quickly for them to use. I estimated that this would put us off by about half an hour and I asked if we could simply pay for the additional half hour due to the fact that his movers came without tools. He agreed and said that in light of the entire situation, he would be able to allow us to only pay for the half hour we used.
When the move was finished, exactly 30 minutes over the 2 hour minimum as I had expected, the movers said that Henry told them to charge for the full hour. I called him about it and he claims I, «simply asked him a question» and somehow that means that he doesn’t have stick to his word. After I made it clear that I wasn’t buying that, he then said that the bed required a «special tool» that the movers didn’t have. 1-​they didn’t have ANY tools and 2-​a simple wrench is not a special tool. Again, I made those points clear and he said he would call me back.
Apparently, Henry communicated none of this to his movers, because shortly thereafter, they went to my boyfriend asking what’s going on. My boyfriend put Henry on the phone and Henry proceeded to tell my boyfriend that I called and that he «doesn’t make agreements with nobody.» Again, my boyfriend stood by his guns and Henry, a true con to the end, claimed that he would «knock 20 bucks off the full 3 hours price» which is only a little more than what we would have paid for 2.5 hours, so we just gave them that amount and they left.
Unfortunately, the movers were very unhappy with that arrangement. One of the movers showed my boyfriend a text message from Henry stating to them that this would be a minimum 3 hour move. Henry’s e-​mail to me said that there would be a 2 hour minimum. The movers were expecting to paid a 3 hour minimum to move, based on what Henry told them. I have the confirmation e-​mail proving that the minimum was 2 hours, not 3. I felt so bad that the movers were not being paid what they expected, but not bad enough to make up for Henry’s lies.
Also, in true cowardice, Henry never called me back.

Id signed up for the 2 men moving crew to help move from my one bed apartment to another 1 bed apartment. the 2 guys that showed up were as good as half a real man. These 2 gentlemen who were going to help me move, had done 2 jobs prior to coming to our place and quite naturally were dead tired and absolutely beat.
It took them 4 hours to transfer exactly 12 boxes, a mattress, a couch, a dresser table, a tv stand and a mattress from a second floor apartment to another second floor apartment. The last time i had moved it took us exactly 2 hours and 10 mins. Not to mention their 40 minute long drinks break where they took the truck with all my stuff and disappeared without telling us about it.
When they helped move the stuff to my new apartment, they ‘BROKE’ the tv stand trying to lift it with one hand from the top of the stand instead of picking it up the bottom. And best of all, they DENIED it even though it happened it front of our eyes. The leather couch was completely scratched from one side where they had laid it down in their truck. And my dresser table had big marks on the front of it.
Of course they wanted to be paid in cash and of course they did not provide any sort of receipt for their service.
I rarely write reviews but really regret not seeing the reviews for this business. 1 and a half stars for them is actually really hard to believe. even 0 stars out of 5 would have been an absolute credit to them.

RUN!!! No show movers!!!
I was supposed to move today morning 10am…6 hrs earlier… my schedule was confirmed… and these guys just DIDN’T SHOW UP!!!
We frantically and unsuccessfully looked for trucks and movers after calling these so called movers couple of times and getting a we’ll check and call u back response… which zey didn’t call back… wow…does a thing like this even happen!!! So OUTRAGED!

Henry Moving Company is an unreliable and unprofessional company; do yourself a favor and find a reliable moving company that will actually show up to move your stuff. We recently scheduled a move of our small apartment in Arlington Va in a high rise building: we only had 3 hours to use the freight elevator (next to last day of the month). Henry Movers did not show up for the three hours: we frantically called their office and their moving crew a dozen times and they gave us the run around and never showed up. We had to rent our own truck and get friends to help the next day on our own. Totally unreliable. Consumers deserve better.

Worst movers ever. Confirmed two days prior they would be here, spoke to them an hour prior said they would be here, then called an hour after they said they were to arrive and they said 5 min away. Then two hours later started screening calls and never showed up. DO NOT USE UNLESS YOU WANT TO RISK NOT MOVING. I never Unilocal but this company has me insanely mad. I have called them 100 times with no answer in last hour.

Henry Moving Company is not customer service friendly nor do they communicate effectively to their customers or employees. I originally booked their services and later discovered by my apartment complex, that our freight elevator was not free during the time I originally scheduled with Henry’s Moving Company.
I later emailed Henry Moving company a hour later after my booking was confirmed and asked for the time to be switch to a earlier time. However, I did not hear back from anyone with the company so I decided to rent my own truck and crew.
After I completed my own loading to my rented Uhaul with a few friends, their crew in their truck arrived asking for me and I was in a aww moment because I assumed they could not meet the revised time nor did I ever hear back from anyone with the company about me changing my move time.
After Henry’s moving team and I discussed that I had already packed my belongings in my rental truck they were frustrated that their company didn’t notify them to arrive at a earlier time which I requested via email.
I later called the company back advised them of the issue but as stated they did not get my email, rather than being honest in saying the didn’t read it.
So after the moving guys left I decided to give Henry’s moving company a second chance knowing that sometime we all make mistakes, to see if they could just help unload my truck at my new location just so they wouldn’t waste their time coming by and Henry advised during our phone call that he would call me back and coordinate the guys to help unload my truck at me new place but never called me back. I waited for a return call, text or voicemail and nothing.
He does not communicate nor does he care for peoples concerns to help eliminate the stress of moving. My third chance I will give Henry’s moving company is not to put the next customer through what I went thru. Today as I am here at work I got sick from moving myself with friends in the rain this past weekend.
I kindly ask that you reconsider your decision with this company as you will only get added stress to your move and will be very unhappy.

Let me chime in with most of the negative reviews for this moving company. To say they were unprofessional would actually serve as a compliment for their services!
Their services include a one time travel fee, which I must agree is much cheaper than the other services. But with this caveat, they end up making multiple trips for your move if even if you notice that the moving can be done in a single trip alone. Did I mention it was a on-​time fee? as promised on their site and the email? Oh well, that’s just an advertisement. Since they’d do multiple trips, they will charge you for the number of trips they do. so for two trips, you’re looking at $ 50×2 = $ 100 charge which can be avoided, if they bring a bigger truck. which they will never since they just dont have anything bigger than 17ft. When you mention this to them, their movers will clearly say that you didnt request for something bigger. How they plan to move 2000sqft unit of storage in a 17ft truck on one trip is a calculation only they can answer.
As for the time, you can well be assured they will be late. We were delayed by 2.5 hrs, and the usual excuse applies — accident on the freeway (when there wasn’t any!)
The movers expect that you dismantle your own furniture and leave it for easy loading. If the tenants could do that, why call the movers in the first place? They will then offer you to dismantle the furniture at the provision of tools from the tenant, for which they will then take hours dismantling the furniture. Mind you, all that time is counted towards their moving — you’d be better off dismantling this yourself. PS — by furniture here, I am talking about an IKEA bed, nothing too fancy.
The time estimate provided for moving the furniture when they come to your place is way off. We were originally told it would take 4 hours plus drive time. Ended up taking 8 hours! These are very slow movers. Their workers will be arguing within themselves on the moving job.
Loading concerns are a whole another story. They will bump, scuff, damage every walkway they pass through. Our brand new home suddenly looks like preoccupied. They have a set motto that the customer is always wrong, irrespective of any fault of theirs. Some scuffs and damages are expected as with any move. but this has been my 4^th move and the most distasteful experience.
Sure, $ 50/​hr for 2 workers, and $ 50 for travel may be cheaper than other «professional» moving services. But it would be far easier to spend $ 75 (the average rate) for movers with a good review.
At all costs, skip these movers. They are a money-​pit.

I seldom write reviews with this much anger but I’m just gutted at how miserable these guys are. I had scheduled them for a move a week before my scheduled date (today) telling them specifically how short of a window I had (based on the times I had my freight elevators scheduled at the from and to place I had a short time span of 3 hours to move from Arlington to Tysons Corner.). They agreed and confirmed — even asked me to send in a form from their website and sent me a confirmation.
That gave me a good vibe about them. I get it — movers are always late. I’ve been moving for 6 years now and I haven’t had a single mover come on time. Which is why I had scheduled them for 11am (an hour before I would’ve wanted them to come.) Today, after waiting for 30 mins, I casually call them. I get Henry on the line and he says the guys are running a little behind. So, I ask him for an estimated arrival. He says he has to call them and find out. I ask him to do so as soon as possible. 20 mins later, I call him again (11:50AM) and he says it’s going to be 12.30. I tell him that’s not what I was promised and ask him to hurry up. At 12.30 I call him and he doesn’t answer. Panicked, I call a few more times and no response.
Frantically I try to find another mover which would’ve at least take them an hour if I called at 12.30 leaving me in a huge disarray at such a last minute. I had a problem with 2 other movers but that’s not for this review.
Meanwhile when I’m in the middle of talking to the other movers, I get a call at 1PM from a person from Henry’s moving company asking me if he should leave now? LEAVE NOW — I was furious. I mean he had the audacity to call 2 hours after the scheduled time to check if he could leave then. I lost my cool and told him what I thought of their crappy service. He assured me he was new to the company and it did really good work and he had just received a notice and could come right away. He further tries to explain to me that there perhaps was another job before mine and that was the reason they were late. I scheduled a WEEK ago specifically telling him my requirements and also called him a day before to reiterate this point.
I was still waiting for the other movers I had contacted and could’ve still used any mover’s help whichever came first. He seemed really professional and I figured I was yelling at the wrong guy. He tells me he’s half-​way to my place and per his GPS should be there by 1.30PM. I call up the leasing offices and ask for some extensions and tell him that if my other movers came through first, I’d have to ask him to leave. He agrees and said he’s left.
At 2.15PM he says his truck broke down and he’s got AAA come in promising me he’ll be there in 30 mins (I don’t believe him and hang up.). He calls me back telling me they can get people to my place in 30 mins and take care of the move. At this point I completely lose my cool and tell him what I think of this company — which he swears by, are top-​notch professionals.
I came here looking whether they had a Unilocal account and to create one to help ensure people don’t go through these unprofessional POS movers. Going through some of the reviewers, I see the trend and hope you do to. PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. Heck, the owner himself is a scumbag who doesn’t answer calls to appoinments he schedules. In fact, James C. below had a near similar experience to mine and I wish I had come here before scheduling mine…

This was the worst moving experience EVER! The movers showed up over 2 hours late and they were not coming from another job. I believe the original movers put on the job no showed and «Henry» got this crew at the last minute. They came illl prepared and with lots of attitude. It was like it was an inconvenience to them. NEVER MIND THAT I HAD BEEN WAITING 2 HOURS MYSELF! No tools, after I emailed the same day to verify they were brining tools. No tape and asked if I had any with me. They broke their dolly so we were less one dolly. RUN FROM THIS COMPANY!

I called Henry Moving company and scheduled a noon appointment for saturday 15 March 2014. They where supposed to arrive to my townhome to move me two miles away. Around 11:30 i get a call from a driver saying that the current job they are on would last until 2 or so and its 40 minutes from me.
I replied thats unacceptable, and i planned on being done by that time since i had only scheduled a 2 man crew plus truck for 2 hours. I had my home completely packed up all furnuture and items where stacked in my living room and dinning room to help expedite loading. Myself an able body 28 year old had a friend over also so we could assist the crew to make sure that this job didnt run over the two hour mark.
So after receiving the call at 11:30 i drove to uhaul and put a trailer on my suv. figured no sense in waiting i will begin to load shit myself and when they get here we can grab all the big stuff. Well by time 3pm comes myself, my friend and the little trailer have almost emptied the home.
didnt hear from henry moving untl 4pm when they called me and said they where outside. I just laughed and finished the job myself which took me another hour.
they assured me numerous times over the phone they would be on time and bring all i need. however the day of they where 4 hours late and only called once. luckily i saved alot of money since the uhaul trailer was only 32.00 after tax but myfriend and i blew our entire saturday.
Stay away from this poor poor service

I first used Henry Moving Company in July 2013, and I was so impressed by their professionalism and their care of my belongings that I used them again in January 2014. When I need movers again, I will call Henry and request Jerome and Kevin.
During my first move, I had a couple of friends with me, and they kept commenting about how careful the movers were – nothing was dragged or scratched – everything was handled as if with kid gloves. It was a long job because we had multiple stops, and the guys were great through it all.
On the second move, there was some miscommunication about the start-​time – my confirmation said between 11 – 12, and they called me before 9 to say they were on their way. I was late meeting them, but I had everything packed and ready for pick-​up. This was also a day after a few inches of snow, and as I was doing something inside, Kevin shoveled the front walk (Thank you!!). They loaded efficiently and safely, and we were on our way.
I am sorry to see such negative reviews from other customers. No move ever goes perfectly, but my best moves have been with this company. I continue to recommend Henry Moving Company to others, and, like I said, will contact them soon for another move.

I really had high expectations of my move with Henry’s Movers. I had gotten amazing feedback from my friend who used them a few years ago. I did not have a lot of furniture to move, but made sure to pack everything up to make the process painless for the movers when they got there.
Unlike many other reviewers, the movers arrived on time. For the most part, they did a good job. However, when it came to payment they didn’t tell me the total cost and just used my credit card over the phone. Although this is worrisome, the major issues began after they left.
I noticed, almost immediately, that the movers had damaged my glass table. I called Henry and he got the movers on the phone. Both said that they didn’t notice any damage, but hadn’t checked. I sent photos showing where the table was now chipped, and was told I would get a call back shortly.
After countless emails and phone calls Henry let me know that it was with their insurance, but because it was such a small issue they probably wouldn’t do anything. I understand that my glass table top isn’t on the top of your list of priorities, but I am a paying customer, and I paid for the furniture that was damaged
Again, I heard nothing and got no response to any of the emails that I sent. It wasn’t until I told them that I would dispute the credit card purchase; which I didn’t authorize, did he tell me he would pay for a replacement piece of glass. I was told the check was in the mail almost three weeks ago. I checked in two times and got no response from Henry as to the status of the check to replace the furniture that was damaged. After getting no response, I moved forward with the claim dispute.
I finally called again, after leaving countless voicemails, to which Henry said I couldn’t have it both ways. Either I could dispute his charge or he would pay me for the table top. He clearly did not put a check in the mail and was hoping that my small issue would go away.
Every time I spoke with Henry on the phone he was condescending and would raise his voice. As someone in customer service, it was a little horrifying to be told that I was the one with the issue. He told me at one point that I should attend a class to learn how to speak to people.
I was not expecting someone at my door in a three piece suit to help me move. I was expecting helpful and courteous service from start to finish. I did not get what I paid for as I currently have a damaged table and weeks of frustration dealing with Henry.

My move took place a year ago and I still get angry thinking about the unprofessional and sub-​par service that I experienced with this company.
I will preface this review by saying, you get what you pay for. They are cheap movers for a reason. The semi-​decent «quoted» price is they only thing that they have going for them.
Issue 1: The movers were late. Actually, one mover was on time and the other mover was about 30mins late. I had an early appointment (9am) because I did not want my day tied up waiting for a moving truck.
Issue 2: I was charged double the quoted amount. I was quoted for a two-​man crew with a 16-​ft truck. I am still baffled that a 2-​hour job took 4-​hrs.
Issue 3: They dumped everything in the middle of my living room floor because they needed to get to another job.
As I was searching for a mover for a friend, this company came up. I felt compelled to write a review because I would not want a friend to go through the same nonsense that I experienced with this company.

Allow me to pile on. Scheduled a 2-​man crew + 16 ft truck for a Noon pick-​up/​delivery job moving just a single sectional sofa. At 12:30 with no sign of the crew I call Henry to find out what the ETA is. He says they are on the way and it shouldn’t be long.
12:45. Feeling irritated. Still no sign of the movers and so another call to Henry ensues. He says he spoke to them but they were late due to heavy traffic coming out of DC. Again, it’s just past noon on a weekday the trip is from DC to Arlington. Not to mention I was just on 66 myself and there wasn’t any sign of heavy traffic. But OK, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
1:00. Blood is starting to boil and another call to Henry is placed. This time straight to voicemail. NOT WHAT I NEEDED.
1:10. Finally get Henry on the phone after repeated calls. He gives me the cell phone number of one of the guys on the crew and tells me to call them myself for an ETA. Now we’re getting somewhere. Unfortunately, that «somewhere» is hell. When I call the driver tells me he just picked up my job a couple hours ago (I scheduled this job in advance with Henry) and that he was in PG County doing another move and wouldn’t be in Arlington for quite some time. WTF???
What else is there to say? Not only is Henry Moving unreliable but their owner is a scumbag who lied to me multiple times. His crew was not in DC but PG. They were not on the way or stuck in traffic, they were on another job. And they weren’t going to be there shortly, they weren’t anywhere close. Cancelled the job with Henry on the spot and I can at least be thankful I guess that I didn’t sit around for hours on end in the hopes that MAYBE somebody would arrive. If you are still thinking about using Henry Moving Company after reading these reviews, you need to get your head examined. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
