We had a terrific meal at the Garryowen Pub. My husband had the Garryowen burger and I had the salad with sliced steak. Our meals were delicious and fresh. The service was also top-notch.

Loved it. Small space so be prepared to be sideswiped often and cozy. All food was great. Nachos excellent, burgers large and cooked as ordered. +++ beer selection, well poured. I generally don’t order beef but could not resist a beef version of Shepards Pie as most always it is lamb. So glad I did and ate every spoonful. Will defintely stop here again when visiting Gettysburg. Make a reservation if you can…

I lived just a few miles away from here and never visited. What a mistake! My experience was wonderful. As you enter, the bar seating is directly in front of you. If you want a table, turn left and walk down the steps for the host. The atmosphere is just perfect for the town. You feel as if you have stepped back in time. Warm and inviting. The food was above average. I had the Scotch Egg as an appetizer and Bangers and Mash as the main. Both were delicious. The bangers were spiced perfectly. The mash was steaming hot and rustic. The gravy was rich and savory. This place will go on my regular rotation. Highly recommended.

Based on one lunch here, this place has excellent soups, sandwiches and fish and chips. Anyone who can make soups like these has to be a good chef. I had a cup of the creamy crab and red pepper bisque. My husband had the soup of the day, beef and barley in a rich, winy stock. His Reuben sandwich edged out the last one as the best he ever had. I enjoyed the fish and chips with the lemony house– made tartar sauce. The«little» serving I ordered was so generous, the regular one must be huge! Our waiter was quick and helpful, and I liked the pub style décor and ambience, with the wood floor, plastered walls, green wainscoting and pressed tin ceiling.

Great dinning experience. Service great. Ordered fish and chips looking for Irish traditional dish. Glad we ordered 6oz instead larger portion. Desert was delicious bread pudding with lemon sauce. Price reasonable for great quality.

Great, hearty food and a wonderful atmosphere. The staff was also very attentions. The food was awesome, especially if you like Irish food. The chips and Guinness BBQ were out of bounds good, especially for ~$ 3! I got the lamb burger and my wife got the shepherds pie. Both were delicious and kept us full for hours. This place is a can’t miss if your in downtown Gettysburg!

I had the shepherd’s pie and it was amazing! I loved the crusty mashed potatoes on top, and the gravy in filling was covers it was so rich and delicious. It was the ultimate comfort food. My husband had a lamb burger and it was a little rare, but it he loved it. We also had the chips with Guinness BBQ sauce as an appetizer and the BBQ sauce was awesome. Definitely try it if you find yourself there!

Great atmosphere! Awesome drinks. The service was a little slow but there was also a lot of people. They have an excellent beer selection and currently have the Victory Java Cask beer that is hands down the best high ABV Stout beer I have had. They also have a great selection of Irish whiskeys.

Take an Irish themed pub and spruce it up with some really creative and delicious culinary treats and that’s what we found here. The drinks are standard fare for an Irish pub with a few well known stouts and an assortment of lagers and cider. Complete but not extensive. The wine list is moderately priced. The FOOD here was surprisingly good. Rather than delve into classic Gaelic dishes, we opted for lighter fare of seared scallops and a steak salad. Both were excellent! Four large scallops joined with fresh spinach and fingerling potatoes on top of a sweet, creamy purée. Loved it! The steak salad was prepared to order and includes all the traditional greens. Very good salad dressings as well. Décor is Civil War era wood plank with a few modest size rooms for dining. The bar is not large and has a few small TVs. The crew here was watching baseball and we moved on to watch NHL playoffs for a nitecap.

My second time here, even better than the first(and I didn’t think that was possible!) The atmosphere, is what you’d expect walking into a pub in Ireland. The bar is stocked with everything you could ever think of. The wall of the bar is graced with various patches, insignias of Police/Fire/Ems/Corrections… So awesome. The food A++++, came for lunch and had the Guinness Stew… I had every intention of taking a picture of it, but once they set it down it was gone. Speedy service, great food, amazing atmosphere. If you’re in Gettysburg, you need to stop by

What a beautiful and cozy pub! It’s serves traditional Irish food as as well as American style food. My husband got the Shepherd’s pie which came in a reasonable size dish which tasted amazing and I got the Irish stew which was pretty much one of the best stews I have ever had, thick and rich in flavour and the meat was so tender that it melted in your mouth with only one bite. Our server was a young bloke who provided us with excellent customer service, he was friendly, very bubbly and very helpful, he always made sure our drinks were full and checked up on us every so often. After dinner, we decided to head around to the front bar which served a giant quantity of Irish whiskey. I was in heaven. I definitely recommend this pub to any tourists who are looking for a few drinks and decent food!

The fish & chips here are terrific!(the fish at least) When I veered away from them & tried other options. .. not so much. Bangers & mash were heavy on the mash & light on the bangers. The hamburger wax undistinguished. The setting is a big plus & the service is very good.

So, all I’d ever heard or read about this place was how good it was. Yeah, about that. For atmosphere and history, sure 5 stars. There isn’t much cooler than getting to be in a very old converted town house. It’s historic and all that which I love. Also, as a note, the weekend of the anniversary of the Gettysburg address is not the weekend to go to Gettysburg. Like no where takes reservations, understandably. So the 9 of us sent a forward scout to put our names in and then waited an hour and a half to drive the 15 minutes up the road to join him. He got to drink at the bar. It’s a little unfair. We still had about a 45 minute wait once we got there because it was packed. There is not really a place to wait inside and thankfully it wasn’t super cold out. The meal was meh. I got the whiskey burger and the red onion was so strong that it was all I tasted. If there was anything else on that burger I couldn’t tell you. And it wasn’t even all that great of a burger. Others got the Shepherds Pie, Ulster Fry, Fish and chips. It wasn’t bad but it didn’t knock anyone’s socks off. The highlight were the mussels, which I don’t eat. Props to the server for handling the insanity and the guys enjoyed the beer selection but not worth the wait at all.

This place is a keeper. We all had great food and tried some new items. The fried eggs app was okay. It could have used more spices or something. I wouldn’t get it again. However are main meals and side salads were really great. We will definitely be back. The scallops were perfectly made and the fish and chips were great too.

After a long hiatus from Unilocal(thanks, grad school), I am back, & what better way to mark my return than with a review of a truly scrumptious restaurant? Over the summer, my sister & I drove down to Gettysburg for a weekend trip. It took nearly 8 hours of driving to reach Gettysburg, & once we arrived, we were(not too surprisingly) hungry. So, we did a quick Unilocal search of restaurants in the area & found The Garryowen. When we got to the restaurant, it was around 6:00pm on a Thursday, & we were informed by the hostess that there was a 30-minute wait. Conveniently, the hostess wrote down our number & told us that she could call us when our table was ready so that we did not have to stand around waiting for our table. We used the 30 minutes to explore the shops of downtown Gettysburg, which are a short walk from the restaurant. When we returned to the restaurant, we were promptly seated in a room to the left of the bar. The room had historical details, including a fireplace, & had plenty of natural light. Shortly after being seated, our waitress came over to take our drink orders & review the specials with us, & her prompt service continued throughout the night. For entrees, I ordered the«wee-bit» of fish & chips($ 9.95), & my sister ordered the shepherd’s pie($ 12.95). The portion size for my fish & chips was perfect, & the meal was delicious. The Guinness batter paired nicely with the haddock, & the chips were equally as tasty. My sister’s shepherd’s pie was also really good; it wasn’t greasy like it generally is at pubs. We finished off our dinner with a skillet-baked chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream for dessert, & it was to die for. We shared the cookie, & there was definitely enough for both of us. Tidbits: –There is no parking lot for The Garryowen. There is, however, street parking, & my sister & I had no difficulty finding a spot. –This seems to be a popular dinner spot, so I recommend arriving early. As I mentioned in my review, my sister & I arrived around 6, & there was already a wait.

Wow! The Ulster Fry is truly amazing. Delicious assortment of meats, expertly prepared. The Irish soda bread is good too. Bring an appetite, though, its super-filling. Best to schedule a nap afterwards too. Impressive selection of Irish beers and Irish whiskeys. My only misgiving(and the only reason I’m not giving five stars): don’t take beverage advice from the short, stout, clean-shaven guy behind the bar. He doesn’t know a damn thing about Irish whiskey but he’ll insist that he does. Sold me and my friends a round of «The Knot,» insisting it was unadulterated whiskey. Turns out its some kind of liquor with lots of syrup and other nasty stuff.
