Great little place, casual and friendly. Something on the menu for all tastes, but I HIGHLY recommend the Italian Beef sandwich. If you’ve ever had a French Dip sandwich from Phillipe’s in Los Angeles, this is even better!

I only go here when I attend a group meeting with The YAP group. it’s a pretty decent dive to go to. I’ve enjoyed their chicken sandwich, cheeseburger and the chicken marinara, which was a little too meaty for my taste. but it’s a pretty decent eatery.

Horrible! For $ 10, I got 2 flattened chicken breasts cooked with no seasoning, butter, nothing! No flavor whatsoever! So I put the two pieces in to my horrible tasting garlic bread to make a sandwich. Seriously, even the garlic bread was bad! As were the french fries! And they didn’t even give me the slaw that comes with it. My husband was very disappointed with the steak wrap.

Downtown Glencoe is cute… But it’s definitely not one of the best suburbs for cute local lunch places. And ever since Einstein’s in Highland Park closed, I always go to Einstein’s for lunch when I’m in Glencoe. But I tried Vernon’s the other day with my boyfriend, and had a great experience. I ordered the Greek salad with the raspberry vinaigrette dressing(instead of the Greek dressing). Although they brought it out incorrectly the first time, they were quick to rectify their mistake. The key, though, was the breadsticks that came with the salad… warm and parmesan-y, with marinara sauce for dipping. So good. My boyfriend ordered the veggie burger, and was happy with his choice– it was the kind of veggie burger where you can see the veggies cut up inside(which is the kind I like, personally)… He did say the fries were only so-so, however. Our main criticism is that the place needs more vegetarian options. Something as simple as a veggie sandwich(that’s not the eggplant parmesan sandwich) and/or a veggie wrap would be nice. Otherwise, vegetarians are stuck with only the salads, a quesadilla, cheese pizza, eggplant parmesan, or the veggie burger really. We also got a little confused when the menu at the door didn’t match the menu posted on the wall behind the register– about a quarter of the menu items were missing! The price is fairly reasonable but not cheap; I got the lunch special which was a half portion of the salad with the breadsticks for $ 7. Oh, and it’s a Coke establishment, not a Pepsi one, which is major points in my book. In the Midwest, which does suffer from a decided lack of diner-y establishments, it really is difficult to find a lot to complain about with this classic diner-style place, especially given the other options available in downtown Glencoe.

Nice décor but cafeteria-style food and service. Owners/workers are friendly. Nice overall, but hoping that the menu will expand beyond the high school cafeteria food of my youth. We ordered a chili dog with fries and gyros. The gyros meat was plainly out of a package, not fresh-cut. The hot dog looked like an Oscar Mayer dog and the chili didn’t taste home-made. I’m no food snob, but for these prices I expect higher quality food.

I actually like this place alot. It’s comfortable, with plenty of seating, and the owners/workers are very friendly. Their personal size pizzas are quite tasty.

Vernon’s is bland, bland, bland. It is served partial cafeteria-style. Service is passible, but you don’t have much interaction with the employees. You order at a register and your food is brought out. I have NEVER seen anyone eating at Vernon’s who doesn’t have at least one child with them. Often there are several crying children inside. That pretty much describes the entire experience. On the upside, Vernons is nice inside with clean restrooms. It is nice to check out historic pictures of Glencoe on the walls.

Vernon’s walls are adorned with Glencoe history. The service is friendly and the menu is large. I’ve tried the burgers, salads, pizza, and shrimp dinner and I’ve been satisfied with everything. Vernons is a nice ying to the yang of Little Red Hen.

Right in Glencoe’s quaint little downtown, its a good little place with just about every kind of fast food, including a super thin crust pizza. Its pretty newly remodeled and clean but still has some old time charm. Good to go with the kids because you won’t have to worry about them disturbing someone else’s meal as most diners there will probably be too distracted trying to keep their own kids in check(a lot of families there).
