Drove by here on my way to the Americana. Most of the Armenian and Middle Eastern bakeries either close early or aren’t even open on Sundays. Not so with Sako’s Bakery. Small, family owned bakery on Colorado, between Chevy Chase and Verdugo streets. It’s next to a pizza place. Strictly to go. In addition to baked goods, they sell juices and some other fresh items. Staff are friendly and don’t mind answering questions about their products. They offered me some samples of the Tahini Bread($ 1.25 for one) which is like a flat, flaky, chewy cookie with sesame tahini paste throughout. Not too sweet. Next time I’m in the neighborhood I’ll have to bring a cooler so I can buy some frozen Lahmajun bread(Armenian bread that’s like a pizza with ground beef and tomato). They sell the Lahmajun at 75 cents each which is the cheapest I’ve seen in Glendale(the average is 90 cents).
