The Savory Skillet is a great little coffee and breakfast(and lunch) shop inside the old Brown’s Mall building in downtown Gloucester. It’s somewhat off of the beaten path since you have to go inside and upstairs, and there’s not a lot of signage around to alert you of its presence. Lately, they’ve been putting out daily menus, but even that doesn’t give a great indication of where they’re located. Luckily, there aren’t a lot of stores inside the building so they’re hard to miss! I’ve had breakfast here, and it’s pretty good. The prices are great, and the portions are decent. I don’t feel like this place makes a living bilking tourists– which is a good thing in my book! The staff is friendly, but not too friendly. The place is usually quite busy in the mornings. I would try for brunch if you want to find a place to sit. I have a few friends that absolutely love getting lunch at this restaurant. I’ve actually never been. I am told they have to die for sandwiches at really reasonable prices. I think this is a great place if you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. I believe you can call ahead and get your food as take-out too, which is always nice.
