Carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese butter! Funky artsy atmosphere, creative yummy food, happy friendly staff, cappuccino — what’s not to love? Server did not judge the giant amount of food we ordered since we couldn’t choose from awesome options– food was fresh home made goodness !

I could not begin to describe how horrible this place is, and I do not recommend it to anyone. The staff is incredibly rude, and the food quality is low and overpriced. Best avoid this place as there are many other preferable breakfast spots in Gloucester. Breakfast is an easy meal, and typically high profit for restaurant owners. In this place, it is apparent people are drawn based on the fumes of past glory, as the actual experience is the pits.

I lived in Gloucester for a year and a half and sugar mags was by far my favorite breakfast spot. I live in Quincy now and still plan out trips with my friends and family to head up and eat here. I think this place captures Gloucester perfectly for me… it just makes me happy to go there. The food is really well thought out, inventive and raises the bar for breakfast. Some of the food items can be over the top sugary, so beware… but my goto meal here is the Irish bennedict. I love the idea of a bennedict not being over a soggy half of an English muffin. They put it over huge portions of wonderful corn bread and perfect corn beef hash… both would be great as stand alone dishes. I’m not alone in thinking that this place is the bomb as there is almost always a wait, especially in peak season… so allow plenty of time to get in the door.

Good seasonal dishes on the specials menu make this place worth it.

Best breakfast place I’ve ever been too. Always my number one choice. I need to try something new next time I go in but the hash is so good I get it every time. Always leave happy and satisfied

This place is usually great, but this time around sucked. We came in at 9AM and did not have food in front of us until 10:30. And with two little kids, thats pure hell. The waitress«oh I forgot you guys», food was cold, and she only came by once throughout the whole meal to check on us. It was pointless.

Wow may be the best breakfast I have ever eaten! Quaint little café on Main Street in Gloucester. Shared the crab cakes and carrot cake pancakes w/maple Cream cheese butter. I guess you could say I had my cake and ate it two! Amazing!!!

This place is amazing! I have been here twice. The first time I got a bacon omlette with the herbed cream cheese. Soooooo heavenly and my boyfriend got steak and eggs. After discovering this gift from God I knew I had to being my best friend here to show her the goods. This time I got an omelette even though I said I was going to get something else. It was still amazing. Also ordered a fruit cup. Cutest thing in the world and yummy. My best friend got a benedicted with hash and cornbread one. She loved it. Also i tried it. And it was delicious. We are coming back here on wednesday and I am finally going to get the Georgias french toast. See you soon Sugar Mags!;)

How Sugar Magnolias can’t be the best breakfast place around is unfathomable to me, unless you are a pretty standard eggs, bacon, toast person… which they have. The breakfast food is taking to an entirely different level with great items like pulled pork hash, pineapple fritters and probably what they are best known for, pancakes. I highly recommend getting one as a side or splitting it with someone if you’re going in a different direction with your order. I was full the entire day after eating here and I wish I could go here once a week. Great valute, super friendly service.

Staff was a bit distracted and inattentive at times. Our food came quickly and met expectations. The cleanliness was a bit rough around the edges but we will be back with friends for more goodness.

This place is amazing. My friend and I both ordered the 2 egg breakfast which comes with toast, homies(home fries) and choice of breakfast meat. I ordered the linguica, which was pretty good. The eggs were cooked perfectly(I love eggs!) and the home fries were pretty standard, soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The breakfast also comes with a buttermilk pancake but we upgraded to one of their specialty pancakes. My friend ordered the blueberry and I ordered their carrot cake pancakes. First, the pancakes are huge. The blueberry had plenty of berries in them. They are light, fluffy and with a bit of crispiness where the pancake touched the griddle. The carrot cake pancakes are by far my most favorite thing here and I would come back and eat just that. The cream cheese tops it off very well, no syrup needed. The service was exceptional! Their card machine was not working, so we had to walk to the Bank across the street to get cash, which was no big deal. They were kind enough to let us know before we ordered and not at the end. If you want to spend a lovely day in Gloucester, start your morning here. You won’t regret it!

Fantastic! Crab cakes for breakfast! Price is reasonable for the price too! Best coffee I’ve had in 5 days on the road.

Ordered the Mediterranean Steak Sandwich and had the steak cooked medium. Came out great! Each bite of the sandwich put a smile on my face. I also included a side of seasoned fries and it topped everything off. Proportion wise, it’s more than enough for one person but if you have a big appetite you will not be disappointed. Called in for order and it was ready by the time I walked in. Friendly service, would definitely go again. A bit pricey for lunch, but how often do you order out?

Arrived at about10:30 on a Saturday morning, had only a ten minute wait. We loved this place. It’s cozy, the food is 5 star, and the staff were adorable. I ordered the Georgia’s french toast and bacon eggs home fries and toast. There was so much food that we were offered a take away container. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict which was served with the lightest fluffiest hash and served over fresh grilled scratch made cornbread. She ask orders a side of carrot cake sand dollar pancakes. I don’t even like carrot cake and these were the most delicious things I’ve ever tried to steal from a fellow diner. Insanity. Fantastic food. Friendly waitstaff. Reasonable prices, I loved every second I was there. Can’t wait to go back when they reopen on 3÷5÷15. Enjoy your vacation. Guys, you earned it!

There breakfast foods are fantastic! Get there early though because it’s so popular but it’s also worth the wait. The hash is amazing and is a must every time we go.

Delicious! So many amazing breakfast options it was difficult to choose. My daughter and I shared the almond joy pancakes(which were not nearly as sweet and heavy as one might think) and the Wingaersheek omelette which is filled with incredible arugula pesto. We believed them to be the perfect combination of savory and sweet breakfast, but could have picked from any number of unique breakfast dishes. It was pretty packed out on Sunday morning and we appeared to have just beaten the rush by arriving at 9:30 and only waiting about 10 minutes for our table. The only reason I didn’t go the 5 star route is due to the noise level. This is probably just personal preference on my part as the noise is only generated by lots of serving activity and great conversations. Again, nothing against Sugar Mag’s, just wouldn’t want someone to think they could expect a quiet atmosphere. I wish I would have tried one of their Kahlua or Bailey’s lattes, but was afraid the flavor would conflict with my almond joy pancakes. Next time…

good breakfast waited for 30 minutes this morning and were seated at the counter, which is wide and roomy. after we were seated we couldn’t tell if there was a wait person covering the counter or not. we waited about 5 minutes before the hostess asked us if we wanted coffee. then we waited another 10 minutes for someone to take our order and another 20 minutes before we got our food. i had the veggie omelet with marble rye and ‘homies’ and my partner in crime had the crazy monkey [thick sweet bread french toast with banana slices, hold the caramel sauce]. the omelet was huge and stuffed with veggies [broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach]. the ‘homies’ [home fries] were ok, but cut a little large for me. the crazy monkey was good. the only thing they could improve upon is the service, which was somewhat disjointed. otherwise a solid breakfast place! we will be back.

Went here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am and it was busy, which is understandable. Our party(12 of us) offered to split up into three separate groups to make it easier on the staff. However, after 2⁄3 of our group got sat and we continuously got skipped over as other parties came in, needless to say we got frustrated. Upon questioning the hostess why we had gotten skipped over(rather calmly), she decided to raise her voice at me. That’s when what was left of our party decided to leave and go to a sandwich shop down the street. Upon meeting up with our party who had been sat at Sugar Mag’s, it sounds like it was the right decision. None of the 8 people who ordered breakfast had a good thing to say. I don’t feel right giving only one star to a restaurant where I didn’t personally try to food — but due to the poor service, I won’t be going back to try it.

Excellent time at Sugar Mag’s Sunday morning. There was a wait of about a half an hour, but honestly are there good brunch places where you don’t have to wait? The hostess was up front about the amount of time that it would take and her estimate was spot on. Food was a big step up from standard breakfast fare. Carrot Cake pancake was pretty good, but the fig and arugula egg sandwich was amazing. Coffee was good and the service was polite and efficient.
