Our experience at Zeke’s Place was nothing less than magical! The food was creatively inspired, artistically presented and deliciously prepared. We had the Breakfast Salad and the Paleo Breakfast, and both entrees were truly fantastic! We so enjoyed our toast that we ended up taking home two loaves of freshly baked bread. A not-to-be-missed treat on Cape Ann.

New ownership as if July 2015! Must try new chef and menu! Still have all your old favorites but offer a bigger variety to help cater to everyone such as gluten free bread.

I love this place. I love the folks who own it, the folks who work there, and I love the food they prepare and serve. They are a lot of good folks. And it’s so delicious. Stoked to be a regular.

New ownership is awesome! The food was amazing. The specials were very good. I got the avocado toast and it was super good! All of true bread is made fresh and you can tell. It’s a nice facelift to an old business. I went to the old Zekes once and that was enough. Now that has had a menu facelift I can’t wait to go back! I am so happy for Mike and Danielle! Keep up the amazing work guys.

This place is great! I went there today with my father and brother — great experience. It’s location is great, the staff was very friendly and entertaining. The menu selection was diverse. The breads were fresh and made by hand(8 or 10 to choose from). The baked beans are a must! Very reasonably priced!!!

To start, if i had the choice this place wouldnt even get one star from me. It is Fathers day today, and i used to love this place. I called the restaraunt at 20 minutes to 12pm. I was told that we could have a table for 4. But we’d have to be there before 12. The young lady that answered the phone was very courteous, but the second we walked in the door, we were met with nothing but bad attitude from who i can only assume was the owner. She was slamming food and implements around like someone had just spit in her face, and very obviously directing her attitude at us waiting in the doorway to give them our hard earned money for mediocre breakfast food on a day that i wanted to celebrate being a father with my son, who up until today had loved this place. She was touching food with her bare hands, contaminating everything she touched by touching one thing after another without washing her hands once. We were made to feel so uncomfortable by her attitude that we didnt even wait to be seated, and will NEVER again give them the time of day, let alone our business. To the blonde woman that owns the place with the bad attitude i say this. If you run a breakfast restaraunt, and plan to be open on holidays, then you should be more than prepared to meet and greet customers with a friendly smile, and stay open late on holidays for customers that get a late start to their days. If you had planned on having a day with your own family then maybe you shouldnt be running a restaraunt where you cater to the public.

No yuppies eat here. But if its just all about the food for you, it’s breakfast magnificent. Counter open at 4:30AM, waitresses in at 6.

Honestly, I’m so surprised about the amount of negative reviews of this place. Homemade bread/toast(not pre-buttered, and I thank them for that), best grits I’ve had in New England, great service, and excellent prices. Add to that specials daily, and treats from Amish country(bacon, sausage, etc), and color me happy. Time and time again, a Wendy’s melt or the goat cheese green onion scramble make my morning. Love this place!

This small neighborhood breakfast place has no frills but amazing food. Small dining room with maybe 10 tables and a counter of 6 or 7 stools that look on to the open kitchen. The eggs are fresh, homefries are delicious, pancakes are fluffy… BUT and this is a big but… the BREAD!!! Out of this world!!! Do the waitress a favor and when she asks«what kind of toast?» do NOT ask«what do you have?»…the poor woman will be standing there for a good 5 minutes losing her breath listing off all of their HOMEMADEBREADS. Just have her suggest one, or surprise you… you really can not go wrong!!!

My neighbor highly recommended this place to us and said the food is delicious and it’s so cheap(which neither were true), so we took his word for it and went there. To our dismay, the place was AWFUL from all aspects. We walked in and stood there awkwardly not knowing whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Finally I asked, and they said to sit anywhere as long as the table is clean …(well obviously… Thanks for that tip Captain Obvious). We go to find a seat and one of the waitresses was standing in the doorway showing her pictures on her phone to some customers, so we stood there for a minute as she completely ignored us and we couldn’t get by. The waitress«taking care» of us was less than friendly. More like miserable. It was freezing cold in there and when i asked her if it was possible to turn the heat up, she responded with a wicked snarky attitude, and told me its already on and there was nothing she can do about it and also its cold because of people coming in and out(we weren’t even close to the door). Didn’t even offer an apology. I notice right behind me that the thermostat is right behind me and its 64 degrees in there. Ugh… Whatever. we have places to be, we’ll just eat here. So she takes our orders and just walks away. She brought the food back pretty quickly and just slammed the plates in front of us and walked away without asking or giving us a chance to ask if there was anything else she could get for us. … Well guess what… My husbands toast was completely dry with no butter and no butter on the table. Before ever coming and asking if everything was OK, she comes back about 5 – 10 minutes later and throws the check on the table not even asking why my husband did touch his meal. Gee. Maybe because it was not edible??? Our red potatoes(not home fries) were bland as hell and the he would choke and/or break a tooth on the toast. Not to mention there were like 7 «home fries» on each of our plates. So we ask her to take his meal off the bill and she says«FINE» and grabs it off the table and storms off. A couple minutes later a different waitress brings us the new bill and just walks away without telling us if we pay at the table or up front. So we go up to the counter because we didn’t have correct change(two definitely weren’t leaving a tip…) and were ignored for about 2 minutes while one waitress was leaning in the window still playing on her phone and our waitress was standing about 10 feet away in the dish washing area purposely ignoring us. Finally phone girl take our money and gives us change. You better believe we left her a 3 cent tip. Oh, and one last thing… WHYINTHEWORLDDOYOUCHARGE $ 1 fee for takeout orders!!! NEVERAGAIN!

I don’t even know where to start with this place. Absolutely the worst dining experience of my life. I honestly have nothing positive to say. Before we even walked in we found parking to be very awkward. There’s no clear signage telling you were to park and when you park out front you have to pray and hope your car doesn’t get hit from someone flying around the corner. We walked in and immediately I noticed how cold it was inside. Being that it’s January I really didn’t feel like eating somewhere where I had to keep my winter coat on just to stay warm. When we sat down my wife asked the waitress if she could turn up the heat a notch and she rudely told us there was nothing she could do. She didn’t even offer up an apology. The only explanation she gave us is that people keep going in and out the front door but we weren’t even seated anywhere near the door. The place is also very outdated and depressing. I don’t think anything has been updated since the 1960’s. The menu seemed very expensive for what they offered in comparison to other similar breakfast places in Gloucester. I even noticed they charge an extra dollar for takeout. I ended ordering a simple egg breakfast that came with toast and homefries. The homefries were red potatoes were very bland, no seasoning at all. The portions were extremely small. The toast was dry and cold, no butter or anything on it. The waitress brought the food and didn’t even ask us if we needed anything else, she just slammed the food on the table and walked off. She finally came back to our table 5 minutes later and slammed the check down. I asked her if I could get some toast with butter and she rudely said, «We don’t butter our toast here. You need to do that yourself.» Then she noticed there was no butter on the table and said she would go get some. By that time I was done. Even if I did butter my own toast, by this time it was cold so what’s the point? I had no interest in eating this meal. I politely asked for my meal to be taken off the check and sent it back. My wife orderd a breakfast sandwich that was over $ 6 and it was nothing better than you could get at Dunkin Donuts for $ 3. Our waitress had someone else bring us our final check but nobody told us whether we should pay at the table or up front. We walked up to the front and were ignored until finally someone turned around and took the check. I did notice that the other waitress was too busy looking at her facebook photos on her phone to help us. I also ntoiced other customers cleaning their own tables as they sat down. I honestly don’t know how a place like this could possibly stay in business. It was a horrible experience and we won’t ever go back, especially when there are so many better breakfast options in Gloucester that are cheaper and have much better customer service.

came for breakfast(sunday LATE breakfast), it was quite good. had an omelet, home fries, bread(house made, they had about 15 varieties. all good and they sell them. my kid had scrambled eggs and bacon and homefries and pancakes and said they were all awesome. my friend and sausage and gravy biscuits — i tried some — excellent and not overly salty. they only take cash, are super busy and not speedy. but very good.

my husband and I went here last year and at that time, I would’ve given it 4.5 stars. they have a great selection of omelets with sundried tomatoes and black olives and anadama bread. However, we went this morning and all the tables were taken so we sat at the counter. We were the only two sitting at the counter. Well we sat, and we sat some more. The cook was cooking, some girls was preparing stuff and two waitresses were writing up slips. Not one person acknowledged us. I mean c’mon. They were standing right behind the counter! At least give me a «hello, somebody will be right with you». Rude! So we sat some more and some lil olé man walks in, sits at the counter and in two seconds has juice and coffee in front of him. are you fricking kidding me? Well, we got up and walked out. I was so pissed. While I was really looking forward to that damn omelet, the rudeness overshadowed it. They not only lost our business today, but in the future. So take that Zeke’s place! You’re lucky I“m even giving you two stars.

With all of the amazing breakfast nooks in Glostah, Zeke’s falls short. I live walking distance away, so I was really hoping for a «local legend.» As a vegetarian, I ordered the veggie omelet(duh!). What was served had the same bland veggies(peppers and onions) and then … RAWEGGPLANT. Add to that the fact that they charge extra for pickup/togo orders and, well, there’s lots of MUCH better breakfast places in town.

I had heard wonderful things from family and friends about Zeke’s Place so with my boyfriend’s brother visiting, we decided to check them out. The restaurant is in a nice scenic part of Gloucester, right across from Cripple Cove and with plenty of parking. I’m sure it gets crowded on a weekend, but for mid-Monday morning it was almost empty. The waitress was very nice. The menu had a lot of cool items that you don’t see elsewhere(like coconut french toast). I will agree with the other posters that the food is bland. The home fries had very little taste to them; I like home fries that are either made with spices or onions or are a little salty– these home fries were boring. Also, the coconut crusted french toast was pretty sub par. Sure, it had coconut but it wasn’t exactly an overwhelming flavor; my boyfriend had french toast with pears and loved it though. I would definitely eat at Zeke’s again. It’s much better than Lee’s and Charlie’s Place. My only real complaint would be their Cash Only policy. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again– I hate cash only. Unless you have an atm directly next door or inside your store, it is incredibly inconvenient. Especially for people traveling that are relying on their bank cards instead of carrying much money. Food was filling, prices were good, service was nice. Just remember to bring cash. I definitely think tourists should try out Zeke’s for breakfast!

We visited Zeke’s on a very busy Monday morning. The place was packed with locals, which meant quite a wait(there were 10 of us). A playground across the street provided waiting entertainment for the children, and I enjoyed chatting with the husband of one of the staff, who was eating breakfast and helping his wife load coffee into filters. The menu was interesting, and we all had a hard time choosing. All of our meals were very good. I had scrambled eggs(perfect) with chile lime cheddar, home fries(also perfect), a homemade biscuit(tiny bit dry), and shared an order of Zeke’s Beans(perfect perfect perfect – sweet, tender, tangy). After three nights of camping in the rain and a string of cutesy tourist ripoff joints, Zeke’s was just what we needed.

Zeke’s is a cool little place in East Gloucester noted for their breakfasts. Not as crowded as Sugar Mags downtown and they have a menu a little more interesting than Lee’s. Two rooms basically, one contains the kitchen and is overlooked by a counter than can seat 5 or 6. And one communal table by the door, usually occupied by fishermen reading the Herald. The other room has about 8 tables and its walls are covered in various nautical themed photography. The homemade breads are their niche and they do a good Anadama(local old-timey bread recipe) too. Standard breakfast fare is offered as well as several adventurous specials — and all well prepared. I like the habanero omelette stuffed with boursin cheese and sauteed onions. The blueberry pancakes are nifty too. Good blueberries, great pancake batter and the cook knows how long to keep them on the griddle. The ham n’ eggs are truly awesome as they get the thick ham steaks directly from some farm in Pennsylvania. It is some of the best ham you will taste, and goes great with over-easy yolks.(But they do run out so ask if the ham is from the farm in PA.) The coffee is nothing spectacular but for some reason, a mug-up with two or three refills seems a fitting start to a weekend. That and one of their breakfasts will get you thru the morning and past lunch into late afternoon before you need to eat again.

Long gone are the days when the moist, toxic cloud from the pogie dehydration plant would sit across the face of Gloucester like a heavy, demanding lover ;-) Now the aroma that most often wafts along the eastern harbor shore is that of fresh cinnamon rolls, muffins and breads that are flying out of Zeke’s Place, my favorite breakfast spot after a long night at the Mad Fish where I was more than likely over-served. They do a LOT more than flour magic, mind you, so if you crave bacons grease and albumin to clear you head, you will not be left wanting. Winners –Eggs Bene and/or any variation there of, the hollandaise sauce is lemony and REAL, the yolks runny –Fresh Sticky buns Losers –You if you sleep in, get there too late and you out of luck, I think they close at 1 or 2, but the best pastries go early on, so suck it up before the crack-of-noon to check this place out
