We used to love Sailor Stan’s until a few years ago when an outdoor chair broke and my Dad fell backward down their stairs. No one really checked in on him. He was offered no care. We brought him home immediately to check him out. Luckily he only suffered some soreness. Needless to say we have not been back.

I asked for muffin or a roll. The woman behind the counter was gruff and rude as she roughly pointed to the 3 wrapped commercially made muffins. there were two kinds. I asked what flavors and she said they were all blueberry. I said they looked like two different kinds. Even more rudely she said the were all blueberry. I took the crumb one out and said it looked like a cinnamon or coffee cake top. She simply snorted and coughed. If was not so hungry I would have left with out anything. Save your time and money … eat somewhere else.

We visited Sailor Stans for breakfast this morning. Its a cute little place inside, lots of bright colors and paintings from local galleries. I had the breakfast burrito which was excellent. My girlfriend had the lobster bene. She likes her poached eggs cooked well, but forgot to order them that way. They came out runny(which is how most of us like them). Certainly not the chef’s fault. However, she swears that the lobster meat was canned. A big no-no in Gloucester in our opinions. Our waitress was very nice, though she did short me a dollar in change. Nothing worth barking about. Overall, I think 3 stars is fair as my breakfast burrito was tasty and had just the right amount of scrambled eggs, cheese, and salsa.

My experience was great. Great food. Some menu items had a delish twist. Service was cool. Low key but attentive. Quaint, yummy perfection breakfast spot.

Love this place’s ambience(can’t comment on food cos haven’t eaten there in a long time) but what’s with the neon-orange, explode-in-your-face paint job??? What the? Y’all need to turn down the volume several notches, we all like to ease into Rocky Neck, not get catapulted into it.

We came from Sugar Magnolia’s after we couldn’t handle the lifelong wait for a good rainy Sunday breakfast…
This was around the corner from the apartment we rented for the weekend in the Rocky Neck Artist Colony. We weren’t sure what to expect but we love trying new places. There were no tourists that I could see having breakfast– patrons seemed to know each other and the place was half-empty. We sat at the bar and a gentleman offered us coffee. Quick, friendly service. I had a the Popeye special(Egg, Spinach and Cheddar on an English Muffin). He had Blueberry Pancakes. Perfectly delicious. I will come back again!

Even though my first experience at Sailor Stan’s was neither spectacular or horrible, because there are only two Unilocal about the place I felt I should contribute mine. The waitstaff were very friendly and the one woman who served us made us feel right at home. The breakfast menu and specials were plentiful and delicious looking, although the prices were high compared to other coffee shops in Gloucester. The portions were small, but still filling. I ordered the vegetable eggs Benedict and it was average. My girlfriend had the Portuguese omelet and she felt it was nothing special. The location and atmosphere of Stan’s are the real draw. Close by to the art galleries with very pleasant outdoor seating and a roomier-than-expected brightly colored interior are what to expect and will help to reward your visit.

From the bright interior to the bright and cheery staff, Sailor Stan’s is fantastic. During my most recent visit I ordered the West Indian Hash which had chicken and sweet potatoes in it and was loaded with spices. Combined with my poached eggs it was a great breakfast and was very affordable.

Sailor Stan’s serves up a delicious breakfast. Located in the Rocky Neck Art Colony, it can be hard to find for those not used to the winding roads and hidden gems that abound in this part of Gloucester. On Sunday mornings though, Sailor Stan’s is packed with locals and tourists. The menu offers a lot of variety. You can get spicy breakfasts, hash themed dishes, pancakes, and all of the traditional egg and fixings that you can think of. The prices are tremendous. When my boyfriend and I went, I tried a traditional breakfast and he had a spicy omelette. Both tasted great. They also serve lunch, and some of their specials looked very yummy. The service is good. The waitresses are very friendly. And the décor is great– I felt like I was in a tiki hut! We went at the beginning of the spring(before tourist season really takes hold on Cape Ann) and it was very nice. I’m sure you’ll have a bit of a wait if you go in the summer months, but I think it’s worth it. If you’re vacationing in the area, this is a must try place for breakfast!
