When it opened a few months ago, I was a happy and satisfied customer of Flaming Grill, especially their boba that was tastier and cheaper than Naan Stop. However, now that I came back for a quick visit, I purchased a taro milk tea with boba and I was disappointed. It was warm and flavorless with a barely-mixed texture. The boba was too squishy and I just pretty much wasted $ 3 :( Not planning to come back, especially now the new business is called Fat Mo’s Burgers and Car Wash. I really don’t get the whole car wash theme :/

So I go on Unilocal looking for Boba/Milk tea places and figure this one is worth a shot… haha, ya right. I walk in, spend about 4 mins standing there before I’m even acknowledged(I was the only person in the store). After I’m greeted, I stated that I wanted a peach milk tea with pineapple jelly. The mexican guy behind the counter then asks if I wanted boba too… I’ve never been asked if I want tapioca with my jelly in probably 500+ milk teas in my life… its usually one or the other. But what do you expect from a mexican guy at a middle eastern food place selling milk teas. Identity crisis much? In any case, then he goes to ring me up, and I kid you not it takes about 4 mins, complete awkward silence and all. The whole time the guy is bumbling around on the computer. He then repeats my order wrong to me, asking if I want lychee jelly. I said no, the pineapple I asked for is fine. He said that they do not have pineapple jelly… I point at the menu and say that it says they do. He responds that they do not. Ok… well then mango is fine. The total is 4.08 and I hand over a 5, he asks if I have 8 cents, I said, I do, but its in my car and I can go get it. He then proceeds to give me the 92 cents in change like he didn’t even hear me! At this point I’m starting to think this guy is on drugs. All service issues aside, the milk tea was sub par and the guy put like 4 ice cube in it that immediately melted and he also put a combination of mango jelly and mango pudding in the tea too. I don’t think he had ANY clue what he was doing at all. Good thing I didn’t order food.

Flaming Grill seems to be the one place in IV that has decent boba, although it is quite overpriced, might I say. Also, the posted menus and such are inconsistent with what the workers charge you… like for example, boba milk tea itself is advertised as $ 3.25 or so but if you order that, they charge you an extra 25 cents… because you want boba. That’s pretty misleading, might I say, if «boba milk tea»(keyword: boba) is listed as $ 3.25…people would obviously think that the boba is included already. You don’t charge people extra for that… it’s really unorganized and besides, there is no such milk tea that’s «boba» specific(to call it «boba milk tea». The term refers to milk tea with boba already in it). Yeah, I had to be anal on that because I’m a boba expert and fanatic. Little complaint aside, I do give Flaming Grill a thumbs up for some of their food items, namely the chicken tenders and fries. Not bad, and definitely fills you up whether you have a chunk of time to kill between classes or if you just got out of a day of few hectic lectures and discussions. However, since my review was focused on the boba here(and also the pressing reason why I come to Flaming Grill), I have to leave my rating at 2 stars… I would give an extra half star due to the doable chicken & fries, but unfortunately, Unilocal’s rating system doesn’t work that way… yet.

Four stars, but I’ve only eaten here once. I ordered the chicken kathi roll for $ 6.99, which was basically an Indian-style burrito. If I can call it a burrito(the fusion trend is expanding in IV), then it was probably the healthiest burrito I have ever had. It came with diced potatoes, green peppers, onions, savory bits of chicken. The sauce was delicious and moderately spicy. I kept thinking about how fresh these ingredients tasted. Every bite was like a toast to good health. If I compare fusion with fusion, the burrito was maybe an inch shorter in length and diameter than the ones served at Kogilicious, but I think they’re tied for taste. For a fast-food joint, the wait was a little longer than expected, yet the food was great.

Just tried the boba here and I really liked their variety. I feel like they had a ton more options than Naan Stop and prices were better. Boba was a bit weird texturally, but I did get a snow bubble so they may have just been freezing and I’m not used to that since I normally get an iced tea or milk tea. Service was fast and guy at the register seemed nice. Food menu looked good for IV, but I wasn’t hungry that day. I will return to try a non-frozen boba beverage

i cant comment on the food, i just came in to try the BOBA! when i saw that they serve it, i got excited because there is a serious lack of good boba in iv and goleta. unfortunately, it was just average. i got my favorite, taro boba. i like my boba soft, and this was a bit chewy for my liking. also, it wasnt very sweet. the taro part was good, but nothing spectacular. they do have a bunch of different flavors for milk tea and slush though! they charge a bit extra for boba, so the drink was about $ 3.50. overall not horrible but not great either… i guess my search continues!

For the price, this place inst too bad i suppose, however, they can definitely improve. I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Burger. The chicken was very well done, juicy and tender, however, the only other thing on the burger was lettuce and chipotle sauce, and it was very small. For 3.89, I guess I cant complain too much, but I was still very disappointed. The fries were well done, no complaints there. The service was poor, the guy was not a people person, he was not rude, but very quite and almost reclusive. Overall, this place has a lot of potential, but they have not realized it just yet.
