So it’s a Sunday night, Week 9 Winter Quarter 2016. It was around 10.30PM. I want to get my favorite burger in Isla Vista at Dejavu Café. Their Gaucho Burgers are bomb. Recently, there’s an app called GauchoLife in the app store. If you are a UCSB student you get a couple of deals in Isla Vista(You can get 15 per day) and one of them was Dejavu Café. The day before I wrote this review, I told my friend about it and he went to Dejavu and used the GauchoLife app to get free fries with a purchase of any burger. I kept shaking my GauchoLife app and out of the 15 shakes, I didn’t get any that was Dejavu café. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to just call the place and ask if they were still having the deal or not. Called the guy, and he was so rude to me. Told me that there was never a deal like that and like hung up on me super quick. I try my best to be considerate and understand the other persons’ point of view. So I thought, maybe this guy was just having a bad day. Despite being pissed that he was rude to me, not getting the free fries, I still decided to go get my Gaucho Burger cause I was hungry. –_-‘ So after taking a moment to think whether or not I should go get food, I decided to get on my skateboard and go. I come to Dejavu and I ask for the Gaucho Burger. I put my atm on the counter and waited patiently for the person(I think it was the owner, he had glasses and white hair growing already) to ring up my order. He asks me if I was the guy that called, and I calmly just said yeah. I asked him politely(with NOASSUMPTION of getting anything at all except getting my Gaucho Burger) if he still had the deal going on with the free fries. I told him that my friend just got it the other day. He asked me what app I found it on, so I pull up my phone and show him the app. I had used all of my swipes and the last swipe was on a 20% discount at Naan stop, so he was like«It doesn’t say dejavu.» So I responded, yeah but yesterday it was on there, my friend got the deal, so I’m not sure whether or not it was still going on. This is the part where he pissed me off. He literally says to my face, «Well that was yesterday. It doesn’t show today.» So I tell him okay… dude… I didn’t mean to be rude or anything. And he keeps on saying, «Why are you coming here to ask me about something that was yesterday. Today is today so if it’s not there, it isn’t there.» I was so appalled by his reaction, I honestly couldn’t believe that this guy was actually getting mad at me. I’ve been there several times and I’ve seen him work behind the register(before knowing the GauchoLife app) and he seemed like a nice person. I somehow must’ve said something wrong or something, because all I tried to say was, okay I was just asking. I don’t know why you’re getting mad. He looked at me and was like, «You know what, give me your atm, I will refund your order so you can take your business somewhere else.» As he was refunding my order, I tried to explain to him that I was just curious on whether or not the free fries deal was going on, and I didn’t understand why he got all mad. As I walked away, he kept blabbing stuff so I just ended up telling him to eff himself. Ended up going to Naan stop and used my 20% off on the GauchoLife app. Win, win. Went to Naan Stop and ended up tipping the dude $ 1 for not being a complete a-hole and accepting my GauchoLife coupon. STRUGGLEOF A COLLEGESTUDENTMAN. I JUSTWANTEDTOEAT. :’( TL;DR: Never going back to this place again. Had a question about a discount on an app called GauchoLife. Got a terrible, unexpected, very rude response. Ended up refunding me for no reason and told me to take my business somewhere else.

We had chili cheese fries and they asked 1.50 dollars for extra ranch sauce. Chili on the fries tasted like canned chili and it wasn’t even good. I wouldn’t ever eat here again

Pros: –open late –lots of food options –good portion size –not too expensive for IV standards –great place to go after partying –for IV standards, it’s pretty decent Cons: –really greasy, low quality food –service is bleh –McDonalds probably has higher quality food for much cheaper to put that in perspective –for non IV standards, it sucks lol.

I ordered a gaucho burger, and I was given just the buns and patties. I walked right back from my place the second i found out and returned it. I’d say work on your customer service, but you guys should work on your ability to put a hamburger together first… wtf?

Worst first experience of my life! It still will make me always laugh because I’ve worked in the restaurant industry and never seen such a rude thing in my life. So I paid for my bacon egg cheeseburger, fries, & soda and the worker tells me it’ll be about 10 – 20 minutes and I said okay that’s fine. My friends order came before mines and I grabbed it as she made her drink. I gave the guy the number he called and he seemed a bit frustrated figuring what orders were what and I was being patient. He gave me my order and I went back to my friend and gave her food. He called my number about 2 minutes later and then as I gave him my ticket number he just goes off and yells at me telling me he told me it would be awhile for my food to be ready and so don’t give attitude but I didn’t even speak to him previously and was being nothing but patient. After yelling at me i just said okay so confused and walked away. My friends were all there and found it so disrespectful too. Never again. I’m from a place that shows a lot of respect. By far, the worst customer service I’ve ever seen in my life. This guy shouldn’t work here. My friend and I even called back to make a complaint and we knew it was the same guy who yelled at me because his tone and speech on the phone was exactly the same way the person in store talked to me. I get it that it was busy, but I didn’t deserve that.

I ordered online which was easy but that was the only thing that was easy! I received a call from the location 40 min after I ordered asking what I was located??? Really??? Ever hear of a gps? Then another 20 min I called as I still did not have the order asked if the driver was lost and was told if he’s lost he will call you! Finally received the order an hour and half later and the driver basically threw the food in my hands and I asked if the food was warm and he just shook his head and left!!! I called asking for a refund as EVERYTHING was cold and soggy and was told the manager would call me as he wasn’t there!!! NEVER received a call!!! I WILLNEVERORDERHEREAGAIN!!!

Ordered food online, they forgot all the sides I added in my sandwich, gave me the wrong flavor of milkshake, and the top wasn’t even on so half of it is in my bag. So as I’m eating my nasty blt with old, brown avocado, trying to call them and ask what the fk is going on. they’re ignoring my calls. Do not eat here, save your money and go anywhere else in IV.

I believe the reviews were a little harsh. The burgers taste like average hamburgers and they are filling. Their products are fresh like they have good avocados and lettuce. Their fries are crunchy and crispy and I got a soda all under $ 9. There are better and cleaner places to eat but I would still continue to eat here.

I agree with everyone else: CHECKYOURORDERBEFOREYOULEAVE. Went here with a few friends. Four of whom all bought the same thing: the pastrami burger. The cashier was rude and did not want to have any sort of conversation while we were waiting. Whatever. We get our food, and go home. As we were all eating, we noticed that one of our friends(that got the pastrami burger) had NOPATTY. It was just some pastrami thrown into a bun. No burger patty at all; while the other three burgers all had their patties. I want to say it was an accident, but the person that didn’t get his patty IS black, so it seemed pretty racist at the time. Unfortunately it didn’t phase him and he still goes to Dejavu. They have definitely lost me as a customer. I give this a 2 star because the food is pretty tasty, WHEN we get what we want. Which usually doesn’t happen.

Thought about giving this place two stars just to be fair, but naw, I think one star is what this place deserves. I had just finished a long week and was extremely tired. I felt like having a burger and I remembered that you could have food delivered late at night here in IV. So I find Deja Vu and place an order for a burger, fries, and soda. I kid you not, an hour and 10 minutes later I get a phone call. I don’t even understand what the guy is saying so I ask him to repeat himself. All I make out the second time is the word, «door.» I realize it’s the delivery guy so I go to the door and open it. He looks at me and says, «You didn’t put the unit number on here!» I did put the unit number down, I specifically remember putting it down, but he must have ignored it. «I put the unit number on there,» I replied. «No you didn’t. Next time put the unit number!» I was gonna give the guy a couple of bucks on top of the two dollar delivery fee, but not after that bullcrap. I get to my room and open up the bag and find a hard, COLD burger with hard, COLD fries. What in the world? So let me get this straight: I wait an hour and ten minutes for a burger and fries only to get attitude from an angry delivery guy… and then find that everything is cold and stale?

I used to eat at this place all the time as a freshman(because I was new to the school and didn’t know any better) and sophomore(because it was close to my dorm & open late), but now that I live a bit further away and know better I would not recommend this place. After a night of drunken debauchery or for a late-night study break, the food is everything one would expect. It exemplifies the stereotype of the greasy spoon/hole-in-the-wall burger joint in a college town, but is really nothing to write home about. –They pile waaaayy too much shredded lettuce on their burgers and sammies –The fries are made to order, BUT come out of a frozen bag and are usually overcooked in OLD oil. You can taste it. –Burger patties are frozen, and usually barely cooked all the way through. –Chicken strips are more batter/crispy coating than chicken, and very dry. –Everything is too expensive for the quality. –Employees are rude, and sometimes don’t wear gloves, and the wait is usually ridiculously long. –Tables are dirty, and picnic-style seating can sometimes put you uncomfortably close to other parties. –Restroom is downright DISGUSTING. The door doesn’t close/lock all the way, floor is usually wet and dirty, usually no paper towels or toilet seat covers… Definitely not a great place to stop if you really have to pee, go across the street to Sushi-ya! Overall, this place is NOT a good representation of what IV has to offer. Their double chili cheese burger with avocado(which I don’t think is on the menu, but can be ordered) is pretty good, but that’s all I would recommend.

I came here one weekend on my recent trip to Santa Barbara! I got the barbeque chicken wrap — it had a good taste of both barbeque sauce and ranch dressing! The only critique would be the long wait time for our food! Otherwise, good ambiance and somewhat friendly people.

always a dilemma to choose between the western bacon cheeseburger and the chicken strips. Also, best fries in Isla Vista hands down. I’ve never had a problem with delivery despite ordering for years, except for when I lived off the street in a tricky location. everything is great. juicy beef patty, melty cheese and crispy bacon on a fresh bun i don’t know what people find to hate about this place. Chicken strips always crispy, always satisfy. Minus one star for being too expensive for my poor student wallet to swing for very often. Did I mention best fries in isla Vista?

I actually think this place is pretty tasty. Burgers, chicken tenders and fries are good. However, I’d rather spend my money elsewhere since the quality doesn’t justify the price.

I usually only come in here when I’m drunk and I really want fries. Decided to actually eat here sober today with my boyfriend. Fries were just as awesome as when I’m drunk, I’ll give it that much. Food here is never really anything spectacular, even when drunk, but I’m writing this lovely review today for another reason. So the boyfriend and I decided to venture from our usual IV eateries and dine at Deja Vu sober for once. Ordered a philly cheese steak and an avocado burger. Cheese steak was aight, tasted like a big mac. Kinda expensive for a big mac. The beef looked kinda fake. Boyfriend got the burger. It also tasted like a big mac. HOWEVER, he was hungry and scarfed down half of the burger before noticing a funny taste. He dissected the burger and the patty was… cold. UM. I think that’s ’cause for concern, no? The only thing warm about the burger were the buns. So, my boyfriend’s just sitting around… waiting to see if he’s gonna get food poisoning tonight… kinda fearing a possible all-night long date with the toilet. Oh, and considering how long it took for them to make the food, you’d think they’d at least have the decency to heat up a pre-cooked patty. At least TRY to make me think that shit is fresh. C’mon, man. Needless to say, we are never going back to Deja Vu.
