We pulled in and had been just been complaining how we we hate«outdoor» hotels right before. This is an outdoor type of hotel. Not a good sign, right? Wrong. This is one of those old school hotels that made me realize things are not always as they seem. One of the best weekends of my life, actually. It was leisurely and fun. There are three things I require in a hotel to be happy-it’s got to be roomy, bed has to be comfy, shower has to accomadate two people. I’m happy to say that the room was so large and comfy and the bed is just wonderful. While the bathroom thing wasn’t up to par. l got over it. Two out of three ain’t bad.

I stayed at the Clarion in Gonzalez, LA this past weekend for a wedding at a nearby plantation. The negotiated wedding room rate was $ 92 so I was a little weary about staying here given that there are numerous other hotels nearby. Plus I’m from Chicago and $ 92 a night in Chicago gets you a pretty horrid hotel room. That all being said, the check in process was very quick and within minutes I had my room key to room 130 which was on ground level right near the pool area. When I got to the room I noticed it was quite large with a giant king sized bed. It also had a two seater couch, coffee table, and the usual room features such as a desk and chair, a bigger bathroom, fridge and microwave, etc. The room was also very clean and the AC unit was countering the 90 degree weather outside the door. I only have two negatives. First, I used the iron in my room to iron my dress shirt. When I filled it with water, brown water dribbled out of the iron onto my shirt permanently staining it. I ran down to the front desk asking if they had a Tide stick however they only had Shout wipes. I have already had the shirt dry cleaned and unfortunately the stain won’t come out. Second, the restaurant and bar closes too early on a Saturday night. After the wedding a few of us went to the hotel bar around 11pm and they were already closed for the night. We offered to pay cash for a few drinks but they wouldn’t serve us. Given all this, I’d definitely stay here again. The value for money is quite reasonable and the accommodations were very comfortable! The property also has conference space, a restaurant and bar, complimentary hot breakfast, etc., along with plenty of outdoor seating by the pool area. Parking is ample and there are plenty of amenities close by such as restaurants and stores on the other side of I10. 4 stars!

The conference center does what it is meant to do. Holds a room full of people. We had plenty of space and the staff was very good about keep our refreshments replenished as needed. Outside of the conference center there was really nice swings and fountain which was a nice little area to relax during breaks. There were no issues with the sound system or the projectors. I would definitely recommend this center to anyone looking for a venue for their next conference.

I’m not one for outdoor hotels… but this hotel was fantastic! The interior décor in the lobby is so cute(I really want them to design my house!) and the guy at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. Although our stay was only for one night, and a very short one at that, it was extremely pleasant and I felt very safe. We ate at the restaurant, Max Anderson’s, which was very good with great service! Even though I really don’t like outdoor hotels, as I already said, I would definitely stay here again.

Sorry Vanessa but Mike Andersons aka Captain Andersons is off the list. It’s unfortunate, because this was the best seafood restaurant in Ascension Parish. But the last two times I ate there were terrible. Rude service from the managers and inedible food. I don’t know what happened. Its not just me. This place used to be worth the wait, but now the parking lot is empty on Sundays at noon. Bring back the old Mike Andersons.
