The Grille

Recently stayed at Chalet View Lodge for overnight and had our dinner here with 4 brothers.
Service was 5 Stars.
Front Desk staff (Jyl/​Alex and the other lady) was also the servers in the Grill.
As soon as we entered the restaurant area, they greeted us and seated within seconds. She offered drinks and the variety of local beers (they have full bar) available.
After she mentioned the special of the day beside the menu items.
We ordered 1 Peppercorn Manhattan Steak, 3 Steaks Special and Shrimps. It was a gastronomic delight and priced reasonably.
Our compliments to the Chef for our dinner.
We got our meals in timely manner. I asked for bread and butter, Jyl, mentioned that they don’t serve it but she will see what she can do for my request. In a few minutes she showed up and served us some breads and butter.
I’m impressed with this extra mile.
Servers checked our table several times and made sure that our water was bottomless.
The Grill staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant.
Definitely a place to visit when you’re at Portola, California.

This is just related to the service at the attached restaurant and not the hotel accommodations. We tried this place out for dinner, when we were in the area for business and were all extremely disappointed. The food was average and over priced and the service was absolutely horrible. We waited for over an hour for the food to be delivered and then after waiting for over 30-​minutes and repeatedly asking for the check, finally had to just go stand at the bar and demand to pay the bill so that we could leave. The strange thing, is that the place seemed well staffed and it was not that crowded. I think that our server just chose to ignore our party.

I made reservation from my room at the Chalet View Lodge. It was for my birthday and the gal who served us was wonderful. She’s a sweetheart. Her son happen to have the same birthday as me. She and another girl sang me a birthday song. My husband was very impress with the services and the food. We truly enjoy our stay and the service there. Love Love the place! Will go again!

It comes with great regret to write this review. The food ended up being delicious, however I have never felt more unwelcome in a restaurant in my entire life. We called at 8:30pm and made sure they were willing to take us, which they assured us we were «welcome».
