Been there twice. Very clean and the wait staff is pleasant. Fries are great. Burgers are average and that’s generous. Milk shakes were poor. The chili they use for the various menu options is pretty lousy. Tastes like its from a can. A gross can.

I’m so happy to finally see a legitimate Coney Island in Western Michigan!!! We’ve been several times and the food is always hits the spot and the service is quick and friendly. I love their cheese fries and chicken lemon rice soup, my husband always gets Coney dogs and chilli fries. Greek salads are good too.

If you know a thing or two about Coney Islands and the Detroit area, you’ll know this place is somewhat of an institution on the east side of the state. I’m proud to say that this iteration of the popular Leo’s is true to its heritage and a welcome addition to the GR area. Here you’re getting all the standards: hot dogs, basic breakfast offerings, burgers, and some Greek dishes. Nothing here is award-winning, it’s diner food basically, and that’s the way it should be. My personal favorites are the gyro meat and feta cheese omelette and the gyro. Now, the service here is something else. I’ve never had a bad experience and all the servers are extremely attentive, quick with refills, and constantly bring warm ups on my coffee. I particularly enjoy that they are all so easygoing as to allow their customers to sit and chat, have a few more cups of coffee even after they’ve brought the bill, or even just sit and read a bit. Sure, some of the servers are a bit green here and there, a lot of cats get their first serving gigs at places just like this. But, they’re all decent enough. I love the diner feel inside and have a hard time remembering what the Family Video that used to be here looked like. They keep this place clean and tidy. Prices here are super fair. I’d even go as far as to call it cheap. Leo’s, I’m a fan and I’ll be back again and again. Great value and great service in a nice environment. You can’t beat that with a bat.

Since I moved to Grand Rapids in 2008 after decades in the Detroit area, I have felt deprived by the sorry hot dog scene over here until today. To me, the Rockford Corner Bar has bland hot dogs and simply dreadful French fries that are borderline flavorless and so loaded with salt, I feel bloated after eating there and can’t pee for a few days. Yesterdog’s hot dogs don’t have any snap and they are mushy and sloppy beyond description, plus the cash only situation is a deal breaker for me. Grand Coney is mostly just frumpy, a total dive and mediocre. I had the chili cheese fries and a coney dog which I thought were perfection, just like I remember at countless Detroit area Coney Islands. The wait staff already seems dialed in and up to speed and the food is as good as any Detroit coney joint. We just got a Trader Joe’s in Grand Rapids which is long overdue, so now the only other chain restaurant I’d Ike to see over here is Buddy’s pizza. Just as with a Trader Joe’s, a Buddy’s Pizza restaurant over here would be a gold mine overnight because that pizza is world class. Then, I’ll have no more culinary reasons to visit Detroit, except for the Polish restaurants in Hamtramck, which are probably too niche to ever come to west michigan.

Great service and consistently good food. We had lunch there today and the place was packed for good reason!

I stopped in for lunch this past Saturday. The restaurant was clean and sort of reminded me of steak and shake, but a little nicer. I had 2 coneys with cheese and«everything» and onion rings. Service was great and my good came out in about 5 minutes. The actual hot dog was good, had a nice snap when I bit into it. In my opinion the chili was rather bland, tasted like generic canned chili like hormel. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it was BAD, it did the job but I wasn’t impressed either. I grew up on the corner bar hot dogs and I prefer their chili, but I must admit the actual hot dog is better at Leo’s.

The place is clean and family friendly. The service was not very good. All the fried stuff ordered tasted like dirty grease. The omelette that I ordered was mediocre.

Let me begin this review by saying that I would give it a perfect 5 but that would go against everything a good Coney Island is all about. Part of this review is written out of pure nostalgia because growing up in metro Detroit you could never go wrong with a Leos, or Kerby’s Coney Island. Having lived in Grand Rapids for 5 years with no real Coney Island seeing this sign driving down 28th was like seeing a far off oasis in the desert. I immediately jumped in and ordered the chicken finger pita and chili fries with a big side of ranch. The chili is better than any other chili on earth and is the perfect consistency for fries. The pita bread is always warm and perfect and the chicken tenders were fried and good, yes you can tell that they are cheap and frozen — and yes a little dry but that is just an opportunity to douse them in ranch dressing– which if I may– as a ranch connoisseur is pretty amazing here. My wife had an egg salad pita and it was great too. Go here. It’s comfort food.

Went with my daughter and wife, and we were incredibly underwhelmed. Food was on a par with institutional or cafeteria food. It was bland, my wife mac and cheese was simply macaroni with cheese sauce that was bland poured over it. My daughter’s spaghetti was dull. The soup was greasy and bland. The CHILIWASBLAND and the chef salad, though abundant with lettuce, came with the dressing in little prepackaged cups, thick sliced deli meat thrown on top. The for was uncreative, served with no style whatsoever, and as expensive as many better chain restaurants. We will not be going back. There are much better ways to spend our money on food. DULL

The signature of coneys is a chili dog. I ordered one and it might be the worst chili and hotdog I have EVER had. To give you an idea, I am fat and I threw it away after one bite. The chili was a paste, an absolute disgrace to the Coney name. Terrible.

First off I need to say I’m not a huge fan of Detroit style hotdogs. This place didn’t help me cultivate a taste for them. I have been there twice and found the dogs to be fairly tasteless. I think I may try the Greek food next time and hope it is better.

Very impressed! I have trust issues with Coney places– bland food, so-so service, apathetic managers– but this one far surpassed my expectations! Friendly staff, food came out hot, correctly, and in a reasonable time. The place was tidy and cute with a retro vibe. I had a vegetarian gyro that I enjoyed very much. It was packed with beets, onions, with feta cheese in a soft gyro bread. The cucumber sauce, which I wouldn’t say was the very best ever as I like mine to be super dill-y, still added a nice coolness to top it off with. Jillian, our server, was on the ball with drinks and ranch dressing for fries. In addition, several staff members stopped by during the meal to take plates and ask how we were doing. The staff does seem young so I can see how someone may think they are inexperienced, but what they lack in time on the job, they make up for it with a willingness to serve. Now that’s something you don’t see at a lot of places!

We went tonight during their first week. And it isn’t without its problems. But give this place a shot. Their coney dogs are excellent. And cheese fries are outstanding. Greek salad was very delicious as well. My kids enjoyed the chicken soup and burgers. The service was pretty awful. We saw two tables walk out before ordering and our order was very messed up and disjointed. But the manager made it right and was very apologetic. The food was good but the service needs to improve. Give it a shot.
